Mortal Kombat is like the original violent video game controversy, that's what it's best known for. It's hard to imagine it as being Smash appropriate in tone, they're all about authenticity with each character but a family-friendly MK character would be fake as hell.
Snake and Bayonetta say hi.
Ultraviolence isn't a core part of their DNA like Mortal Kombat is. Snake still feels like Snake even if he isn't killing people. Bayonetta still feels like Bayonetta even though you don't see her get nekkid when summoning hair demons. A Mortal Kombat character without blood or fatalities just feels off. (Anyone remember the crappy MK vs. DC game? This was before DC gave license to be really violent in Injustice.)
Yeah except people made the exact same complaints about Snake and Bayonetta when they were first announced. Sneaking around slitting throats is absolutely in Snake's DNA but he's just fine in Smash without it. Same for Bayonetta. It's fine, it will be fine. Smash does not take itself that seriously, neither does MK (hello Friendships and Babalities), and I think it would actually be a great fit.

Like I could see Scorpion working, he could even keep his Fatality as a Final Smash. The lights go down, the music goes "dun dun dunnn", Scorpion pulls his mask off revealing the skull underneath and breathes fire on his opponents. Instead of leaving skeletons behind they fly off the screen. Dan Forden pops up on the corner of the screen shouting "Toasty!"
Plenty of characters could work from the MK series. It's not like half the actual Smash roster isn't already out there fighting with guns and blades and such. Why's it gotta be violent and gory other than putting that in as part of the "MK Brand"?

That’s the question I wanted to ask; how important people think that is to the characters’ identity. “Not enough to keep them out” is a proper answer.
A lot of these concerns were already answered by Scorpion and Sub-Zero appearing as guests in Injustice/Injustice 2. They don't do fatalities or anything like that, and it's fine. At worst Sub-Zero's victory screen implies a fatality while showing nothing.
Also as far as colors go their appearances have become so distinct that they are allowed to have different colors in MK11.
The amount of shit that can drop while you're visiting family is just, just staggering.
HEY! As a reminder, we're going to be having some friendlies going on on Saturday, which is tomorrow, and they'll be running intermittently throughout the evening (probably starting at 6-7PM Eastern).
Joker's here! Mementos is here! Lots of good music! (Life Will Change not included)
So we're gonna celebrate by whooping each other in the head, shoulders, and neck, as is tradition! All in good fun! Friendlies will continue after the tournament for all eliminated participants, so don't worry about getting eliminated early—there's always folks to have fun matches with!
For one week only, Mementos will be included as part of the Neutral stage selection! We will reach out to the truth—of whether or not the no-hazard version of this stage is any fun!

I always felt like it was a hell of a resemblance. Splatoon was publicly unveiled at E3 in summer of 2014, and P5 was released in September of 2016, but I don't know when Futaba was first publicly seen. There was an announcement trailer for P5 as far back as November 2013, but it has no character art, just a shot of five empty chairs against a red background. If the timing's too close, I'd guess they were both drawing inspiration from an earlier source.
I placed in the top 8 of a 32 person tourney at a brewery around us. Was pretty fun overall. It was initially a 21+ tournament, but a 15 year old won so I guess that didn't hold up. My second opponent bought me a beer after our match. I think that was my downfall. Haha.

I'd say it's really just a matter of both Splatoon and Persona drawing heavily on modern fashion, especially Japanese fashion.
I'm really glad that Smash is as popular as it is, because there's always somebody to throw down with on Quickplay
But man that can be really humbling, too, when you're learning a character. You know in Smash 4 I had a decent Lucina! Well, not decent, but mechanically competent. Now I'm getting my behind kicked every whichaway. By everybody. Lord. And she's top tier, now, this should be easier!
I tend to think of QuickPlay as being divided into tiers of player skill.
Tier 1: People who are genuinely new at video games, and have very little sense of how their inputs relate to what their character is doing.
Tier 2: People who understand how things work in theory but have a lot of trouble getting the different systems to work together in a way that benefits them.
Tier 3: People who know how to make things work together but don't have the mechanical refinement necessary to win consistently at mid-tier play.
Tier 4: People who get how Smash works and are pretty decent at it. I think most people are at this level.
Tier 5: People who would really like to make it to Elite Smash but are having trouble clawing their way up there.
Tier 6: People who can make it to Elite Smash but tend to get knocked out of it really fast before clawing their way back.
Tier 7: People who can hang in Elite Smash, and use victories over Tier 6s (and other Tier 7s) to maintain their place in the mode.
Tier 8+: The Real Ones. Couldn't say how many tiers exist beyond this one, maybe just one more? But tier 8s relate to 7s as 7s do to 6s.
My Lucina is pretty decidedly in tier 3 and it is staggering

Tier 10: People who are good enough to get raw crabs thrown at them.
My quick play sessions are teaching me how scary every character can be when they know what to do.
I think the ones I fear the most are DK, Ganondorf, and Mario. The former two because getting hit 3 times is death. Mario because someone who knows how to play Mario has at least 3 ways to kill you at 20% health if you ever go off the side.

God help you if you face a Mario who knows how to reliably cape people offstage. But if they can't do that, they're going to be going for forward aerial dunks 100% of the time, and baiting them into going too deep is like 80% of the way I take stocks off Marios.

Quickplay is extremely humbling and I get frustrated with it more often than not
For some reason the game is extremely generous about the GSP they give you for your first time playing a character. It just assumes I'm going to be as good with a brand new character as I am with my main. You just need to get your butt kicked for a little while to start playing worse players for practice.

Me too man. On Wyborn's scale I'm like tier 2 or 3, at best. I've tried putting in hours of practice and watching all kinds of videos but I just never get any better. Plus while I love smash, I just don't want to dump all my gaming time into trying to maybe one day get alittle better at one game. So instead I just play QM and assume I'll lose most every match. Occasionally I'm surprised and pull out a win.
...I must admit that those wins feel very, very good though. ;D

Link is... weird. He has three nairs? And they're all bad? Lingering kick does like 5-10% and doesn't have a good starting hitbox--I could never get it to hit rising, only falling, which means it's useless as an out of shield option and is never rewarding when it does hit. Back air doesn't link into itself and doesn't do much when it lands. Forward air is better at linking into itself but still isn't reliable, and getting that double slash that's every other sword character's nair on fair just doesn't feel right. Plus he's got the bad Link-special down/up airs.
Of course like everything he does on the ground kills, so tradeoffs, but you'd figure the guy who spends 40% of BotW flying through the air would be a little better up there.

None of this really tracks with my personal experience. I think all of Link's aerials are pretty useful (although fair rarely seems to work well for me except against very large opponents).
Also adding in the ability to use your amiibo FPs in online arenas. They should totally add a betting mode like they had in Sm4sh, so we can gamble on virtual amiibo fights.
You can use the Toy-Con VR Goggles to enjoy Smash in VR mode via the Games & More menu.
VR mode is a single-player experience only.
The Toy-Con VR Goggles are sold separately as part of the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit or the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit - Starter Set + Blaster.
An option to send amiibo out on journeys has been added, through which FPs go on a journey to train via the internet. You can find it via Games & More → amiibo → Send on a Journey.
Some of the preferred rules for Quickplay battles have been adjusted.
General
Game balance adjustments have been made.
Several issues have been fixed to improve gameplay experience.
Details of fixes and changes to fighters can be found here.
then you have some sort of odd doppleganger/nemesis situation where there's someone online on smash who has your username AND also plays a lot like you.
