CT made a thread about proper use of the report button over in G&T, where it occurred to me that I had no idea the feature even existed. I mentioned it, and CT told me to post here. So...yea.
I think the button displayed is too invisible to be noticed, let alone used. Why not just change the icon to fit the look of the quote and reply links?
Also, it was suggested to use it more frivolously however when I click on it I get:
Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam and clear rule-breaking posts. Reporting a post brings it to the attention of ALL of the moderators and admins. Don't be afraid to PM a single moderator for minor issues, instead of "sounding the alarm" by using this feature.
Could you clear up when and how it should be used?
Fair enough, I had to mouseover it myself when it first showed up (same for the IPcheck button, its not intuitive for some reason). But surely that's not too much effort... I dunno, something about this strikes me as similar to people who whine about getting in trouble despite not having read the rules. Who doesn't have enough curiosity to check the icons' functions?
Not that I'm against changing the picture or anything. I would like the old IPcheck icon back, and it was in the same form as the edit/quote/reply icons. We ported them over from the old forum style, may as well be consistent.

I think it's just having it in the same layout as the other buttons is more intuitive.

The text has been updated. Also, if you read the thread linked in the OP, I think it further clarifies how and when it should be used.
Could there be a way to see which posts have been either already reported or dealt with by the mods? I tend to read in chunks, and if I happen upon a post, I don't want to send in unnecessary reports.
Oh I see what you mean, how high the label is next to its associated image in the button graphics. Doesn't seem like a big deal, just the text in the report image being placed slightly higher than the text in the others.
Looking at it more closely in both IE and Firefox, all three of the buttons are misaligned, though in different ways depending on the browser. The alignment coding there could probably use a second look, or maybe it's an image issue. The text for the report button seems to be misaligned because infofcer's mockup was used directly without centering the text.
Not very significant, but then again it'd probably just take Paint and 20 seconds to fix it.

My thoughts exactly. It would be an improvement in every way.
Same icon it has now, but with the word "report" to the right of it as with the Quote and Reply buttons.

I agree, something along these lines would work great I think:

This button has been implemented and placed on the far right-side as suggested.
Shake and bake,
And I helped!

That's going to bug me.
