I'd love to see a Chemist class as the next healer, where their kit is basically chucking health potions and any other potions to people.
For anyone who has played Heroes of the Storm, you know LiLi's healer kit, where her primary Q heal spell is throwing a bottle of water or brew or tea or whatever it is to people. That's what I envision a chemist doing. Tossing out potions to people. They could come up with some sort of Mixology mini-game for their rotation. Make the baseline ability a heal, so that no matter what, they are always completing their primary role. Then they could hit different buttons off the GCD to mix other properties into the heal potion, such as shielding, or +damage, or +haste, or whatever. But give them the choice to mix how they want.
That's honestly part of the problem with AST, there's too much chance involved. Or at least there was. Now it's just drawing 6 versions of the same thing, which is super dull. Obviously when you have a class themed around cards, luck of the draw is a big part of the fantasy of that type of archetype. It just doesn't work well from a game mechanics standpoint. Not when you need to be able to draw specific cards at specific times.
So anyway, Chemist as a healer would be a lot of fun (potentially) if they gave them some sort of oGCD mini-game to put together a strong mix to throw out.
Yeah, kinda. But I'm thinking it wouldn't rely so much on patterns/memorization. It would just have buttons for different mixology properties. The order they are pressed wouldn't necessarily matter. You'd start the Mixology minigame, and then based on your situational needs, you'd hit the combination of 2-3 mix-ins to create your concoction.
the problem with systems where you're giving the player "the choice to mix how they want" is that one of them is just better
that's like, the entire reason AST cards changed to begin with, is there was only one "right" option
i also broadly think that a problem a lot of people make with suggestions for new classes or changes to AST is that they want to make them have more things to pay attention to. for example all of AST's card stuff is technically oGCD yeah, buuuuuuut...realistically speaking enough of my brainpower needs to be spent on recognizing what i draw, what i rerolled it to, what sigils i still need, etc that i'm not actually always masterfully slipping it between my GCDs. i might be pressing Draw-Reroll-Reroll-Minor Arcana-Play on a single card. my fingers and my brain aren't that fast to parse the information from each draw and reroll in the space that's Optimal
at a certain point people just go "well why don't i just do the class that does its job with half the buttons so i'm making more decisions about the Fight and less about my Buttons"
I mean, in my example of a Mixology mini-game, if they gave a +damage mix-in and people used it 80% of the time, it wouldn't be so bad if they still had the option available to mix in other things instead. Or make all of the options defensive and utility oriented so that damage doesn't come into the equation. Give them a mitigation option. An absorption option. A regen option. A threat minimizing option. (Yes yes, I know they just removed all the threat reduction skills, it's just an idea for things they could give a class to mix into a potion.)
You know, Chemist might be a good candidate for a Limited job like Blue Mage. Focus on making it fun without trying to optimize it for groups and endgame.
the fact that i can immediately say that with confidence is why they said they need to change the structure of shield/regen healers going into ShB and why it is very disappointing they don't seem to have done so

I think it would be a good option for giving the limited job system a healer, yeah
they've mention beastmaster and puppeteer as possibilities and I think they's be a good melee and ranged physical respectively
if we want a tank too I think onion knight would be great
I thought with Blue Mage the plan was that eventually, after several patch cycles, that class would eventually be deemed "complete" and be released into the wild as a full class?

There's been no official indication or statement to that effect. Given how Blue Mage works, and the balance of the attacks, I don't see that ever happening.

The plan has always been for it to be limited. It wouldn't totally surprise me if they figured out some way to make it work based on the uhh, feedback. But the limited job concept was never paired with "eventually becoming a normal job." It's expected that they'll raise the level cap in 5.1 but it's going to be to like...60.
The Tsukuyomi fight was awesome, with good music...but I have to agree all the lead up to it was really bad, kind of offensive and frustrating.
SHB: The trust system is absolutely amazing. Can't describe how much I love the idea and the execution.
Also really enjoying all the new music in this expansion, except the common battle music sounds kind of odd to me...low quality in some way not the actual tune of it.

What is a "limited job"? I see it listed in the duty finder, but didn't really get what it was saying. I guess Blue Mage is one? I know nothing about Blue Mage to be honest.
limited jobs are a relatively new idea that was added last january and only applies to blue mage so far
it's meant to be a way for the devs to add playstyles and content that don't fit the mmo holy trinity design style, but at the cost of severely limiting what the jobs can do in order to preserve game balance
it's also an experiment that's proven to be fairly unpopular so far

An important limitation being unable to be used in anything endgame such as dungeons or raids.

So they are basically just classes to go solo things with? Are they at least powerful enough for you to care to do that, say for your dailies or whatever...or does the power level not justify the headache?

Blue Mage has a level cap of 50, so there's no end-game content to be done with them at that level.
You can use them for any 50 content, but only by joining/making a pre-formed party. You cannot join the duty or raid finder with Blue Mage.
So BLM - for the “simple class I can use to learn to play the game on my controller”, this sure is getting hard to play optimally! My muscle memory is getting a real workout.

I need to set my controller hotbar back up so I can play from my couch when I'm grinding through HW and SB solo. Still not comfortable doing dungeons on a controller.

at this point i totally agree it should be able to hit duty finder as a dps—being capped at 50 as it is doing old content wouldn’t break anything at all and i think would make for an incentive to play the job
i like BLU a lot there’s just no incentive to make the journey unless you’re a completionist (especially since your leveling options are so limited)
Someone please save me: (Post-Stormblood campaign spoilers)
How fucking long do they plan on going with this ridiculous, offensive, lazy Yotsuyu storyline?
I actually liked this expansion from what I experienced of it up until this point, but it just keeps going and I want off.
Goes from 4.2 till the end of 4.3. It's my biggest gripe of the expac, my condolences for your suffering. But take heart that directly after it you get to some seriously good shit in 4.4 and 4.5
Rowena probably has a sign posted at all her vendors that says No Refunds or Exchanges.
And then makes the process of buying things as complicated as possible.
So uh, I may have accidentally spent all of my poetics on the wrong kind of Rowena’s Token. Is there any way to trade them back?
Unfortunately not. They really need a better way to differentiate them, I always triple check what token I need before buying for that reason.
With that being said, poetics are handed out in the fistfuls through most content once you're at that level so it hopefully won't take too long to get back what you lost.
Yeah, you can cap Poetics in like 2 days if you run your roulettes with any job that is >50. The daily MSQ roulette alone is worth like 500 tomestones at minimum, more if you get lucky and have a first-timer with you.

Damn. I was looking forward to stacking my guy with 260 items the second I dinged 60 and head to Azys Lla. I've felt behind the curve power-wise for a few levels now, even with the large ilvl boost the regular Idyllshire quests gave me.
BLU sounds kind of like BST in FF11. When BST came out people weren't quite sure what to do with them and they were used solely for soloing until people realized BST only parties were very fun.
I almost failed the last boss because Uri and Thancred just leaping over the obstacle while mocking the boss and minfallia very slowly doing the balancing act just floored me. That was a fantastic bit of character mid fight.

I've enjoyed every other part of it, but doing Titan or Leviathan 40 times each and getting nothing is awful.
if you get a 70/80 friend or 2 to do 'em, you can do most primals in a minute or less, so an hour a spell worst-ish case.
