I am pretty grateful that my office offers a overall pretty generous sick leave program (I get 10 days sick time). Plus they've never questioned me when I have called in sick, which is good!

I do need to take less sick days, though, since sometimes I just feel minorly crappy in the mornings and then I feel better as the days go on, and in that case I'm just like "Well I could have saved that day for when I'm ACTUALLY sick"

Speaking of I convinced the nurse at my doctor's office to get a flu shot from now on by reminding her that she isn't getting the flu shot for her. She should be getting it for me and people like me, with compromised immune systems.

So yay for that, at least.

There's a culture in American government in particular that holds people with large unused sick balances in high esteem. You occasionally see articles hailing heroes who have accrued thousands of hours of sick leave.

I wish they wouldn't do that.

I get 12 days of sick time each year. I was told they're noticing a pattern of me requesting time off almost once a week.
Last week, my wife had some issues after a surgery so I tried to take the day off to take care of her but was told that I needed to come in. So I came in an hour and a half late.
The week before that was her actual surgery so I had requested in advance and had gotten approval for a day off to take care of her.
The week before that, I requested and got approved to leave an hour early to turn in my rental car before the place closed. I can't control the rental place's hours. I can't control that my car needed to be put into the shop.

I offer to take other people's weekend shifts during those weeks. Even when they decline, I'm still at 40+ hours/week. This is also the same management that wants me to "fail in order to succeed" instead of giving me assistance when needed. I'm willing to fail and learn when it comes to my personal life but not when it comes to other people's finances.

Does your sick time require a doctor's note? Sometimes just taking the day off and getting some rest does wonders.

On topic with being disappointed in people, I'm still a bit shaken from a discovery yesterday afternoon that an old friend of mine from high school has become an off-the-charts QAnon nutjob. His Facebook posts are all graphics of how the liberal, globalist "Luciferians" have the goal of destroying society but that God has given us Trump (one of the "White Hats") in order to cleanse the Satanic liberals from the earth. Also sovereign citizen advice on how to liberate yourself from the indentured servitude that the Foreign-Owned Corporate Government imposes via driver's licenses.

This guy was a bit odd in high school but he was a friend. I spent the night at his house a few times. Just... ugh.

I applied for a new job recently. For a position in as an information specialist (doing things like managing content on the MY HR site)

I had gone through the first round of interviews right before Xmas, and then this week they said “you’re into the next round, here’s a writing exercise so we can see how you’d handle this situation.”

It’s weird, because every other time I’ve applied for a job it’s been out of necessity. Either I was unemployed, or I hated my existing job so much that I had to find a change.

This may be the first time where I’ve been happy with what I’m doing, but still decided “yeah, here’s a chance to move up, I’m gonna try”

I don’t know when they’ll announce results for the writing test, but no matter what happens, I’m feeling good.

I've had a nurse actively discourage me from getting a flu shot a couple years ago while I was in the hospital. In January I think. Reasoning was that "If you were going to get the flu, then you'd have gotten it by now".

Dammit. I've ruined my wife's day and, by extension, my own, at least until the mail arrives.

I subscribe to that service that lets you see what mail you're supposed to get that day before it gets to your mailbox. I saw something addressed to my wife from the court system. It is almost certainly a photo-enforced traffic ticket, but I texted her anyway to ask if she was expecting anything.

She was not, and now she's incredibly stressed because she doesn't know what it is. She suggested that in the future I shouldn't mention something like that since we won't know until the mail arrives and until then she'll just worry about it.

I'm sure whatever it is won't be a big deal. I don't care about a traffic ticket but now I've got this sick-to-my-stomach feeling from worrying by proxy. Gah.

Edit: speaking of which I used 8 of my remaining 46 hours of sick time today. I'm feeling very much in no mental state to be at work and I've decided my new years resolution which will start Monday is to start seeing a therapist (I was gonna get it setup for today but apparently my doctor forgot to give me the paperwork) and work this easy collections job for fat stacks and pay off my credit card debt.

I feel really bad at work because I feel like my apathetic/negative attitude is rubbing off on the 1 person who also works nights with me. There used to be a third person and the two of them talked a lot but the third person went to a new dept and now it is just us.

We don't really talk, no common interests but I don't want my garbage attitude impacting others. I am going to also start heavily working on my outward attitude.

It's jury duty! Which is a whole different can of worms. She's a stay-at-home mom and we can't really make daycare work, so we'll keep fingers crossed that she can be excused. Otherwise I'll be taking unanticipated leave in February to hang out with my kids, which wouldn't be our favored plan but would be kind of awesome at the same time.
