You'll also note runners discussing marathon strats and taking safety saves and such. The ORAS race I think had a backup save in case of terminally bad stat rolls on the starter that got used (which is another common thing for runs with RNG, as well as runners preparing backup saves in case of something that would normally kill a run completely and such)
Hey question about these runs. Does anyone ever fail? Like I've seen people have to reset to the point where they are worried they're going to go over time but I've never seen a run get mucked up enough that they just have to call it a day. Considering that they have all sorts of prep work done to make sure everything goes as planned (like for example the tool to make sure you get the black knight great sword in dark souls) I would understand if it wasn't actually possible to fail but it'd be interesting to see it happen.

He somehow always has the worst luck possible. I also remember a few years ago someone was doing a deathless TMNT (I think) run and died once but finished the run anyway

I'm surprised I never see this get any mainstream media play, but maybe that's for the best.
Watching the Stepmania run, as a long-time DDR player, it's insane on every level, especially that he's doing this no bar and as a marathon.

AGDQ is over, but GDQ is pitching their GDG Hotfix show lineup today while people are still jonesing for speedruns. Four Hotfix showrunners will be doing runs to demonstrate what types of games their shows do. adef has returned from the future closet and is opening today's runs up with a damageless (currently actually 2 damage) showcase of BotW.
I'm curious to see if there will be another big infection wave, and maybe a new variant by summer

I'll be looking at the full policy when it drops on Friday. I have personal changes that may prevent me from volunteering this year anyway, but even if I can go the pandemic is still happening. Emotionally, I'm in Jhobz's camp.

Requiring everyone to be vaccinated and masked is about as safe as you can possibly get, so I don't see the harm in it. It's not like these were packed venues with thousands of people or anything, seemed like they had a few dozen at most.

That was only in the main presentation hall, there are a ton of smaller practice rooms. It could get pretty crowded!

Pre-pandemic I think the main hall would float around 20-50 people, up to a couple hundred for the big hype runs? Plus a small crowd in the arcade, various other bits.

Yeah, the main hall could seat a lot of people and the ancillary areas, from what I've seen from live video of past events, could get pretty crowded. I expect that is one of the reasons why the board game room will be axed this summer. Its not thousands of people, but hundreds is still a big number.

Thank God they are running both versions, the All Remembrances (which is basically all major bosses) is a 2 hour speed run.
Any% is thirty minutes. Map warps!
EDIT: No PJ again. I weep.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
There's always been a late submission grace period for new games that are outside of the normal submission window, but it depends on how stable the run is. It's never really been a hard and fast rule but rather handled on a case-by-case basis. Everyone though that Metroid Dread would be in AGDQ since it was so popular, but the run was still in flux and there was things like the validity of using things like turbo was still being debated in the community.
It is almost time once again, Summer Games Done Quick 2022 starts this Sunday, June 26th. I don't necessarily think it's a good idea to do it in person yet, but they're doing it in person for the first time since the pandemic started. https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule

The ship's well since left the dock, conventions are happening all over the US, they may as well do it now if ever, especially if they're using safety protocols.
They are indeed doing some remote runs still to accommodate the kinds of games they couldn't do before the online events like the big rhythm game setups, nice

Frost Fatales starts at the top of the hour (4 min from now
Separately, I actually won a GDQ prize way back in Summer during Flame Fatales and it just arrived.
I need to figure out the best way to hang it up.

I've seen a bunch of people streaming speedruns of it, so I guess they've got the game decently figured out already.
