i kind of wish i could watch this with just the person doing the speed run and not the commentators. they are........not fun
Commentators can be hit or miss. Not sure how much the runners speak with them ahead of time. Some are very knowledge and help to fill in the silence while the runner is concentrating.

God the worst commentator thing I can remember was during Keku's run of Dread at last SGDQ.
Oats was entertaining as always. The other guy, however...
i'm usually very sensitive to bad/annoying commentary (turned off the ratatouille run after about 2 minutes and i realized the chef bit was not going to stop) but this hi fi rush run seems mostly fine on that front?
I usually prefer commentators over solo runners so the commentators can keep up with explaining what's going on while the runner can focus, otherwise there's usually too much dead air while they play or repeating a lot
Except Argick, who can carry any game by himself

also hi fi rush slaps
yeah same, the ratatouille run made my fucking skin try and leave my body
I think there needs to be some kind of runner / couch mixer or planning, because a lot of the time it feels like the commentator doesn't have anything specific to say or just talk nonstop.
doesn't the runner pick their couch? ideally they'd already have that worked out ahead of time, it's just that a lot of folks who spend the time you need to get good at speedrunning also tend not to have the most well tuned social awareness/performance experience

Wow this Bioshock 2 runner guy being interviewed is extremely in love with himself.
SpikeVegeta feels like he's always a good time - he knows his stuff, he's a good hype man on what the runners are doing, and he can keep a cadence rolling
ah dang you’re right i didn’t realize just how far it was. seems a bit spicy. no clue how they would have made this if they weren’t already pretty far behind

The halo 3 run was really good. Also there are a couple names I know that I always appreciate seeing on the couch and Spike is one of them. Even if he knows nothing about the game he usually asks insightful questions.
Gunfire reborn run failed twice, alas. Speedrunning a twitch shooter roguelike means that'll happen sometimes I guess.

That's generally why I prefer when they use approved seeds where the runner doesn't know what's going to happen but they know it's going to be entertaining and doable.

@Beasteh@L Ron Howard it was great meeting you yesterday! I apologize for needing to dip early. If we don't see each other again, I hope you enjoy the last few days of the event! When off shift, I'll like be in the board game room so feel free to come on by and I'll be happy to teach you something!

I love when a GDQ is going because that's my cue to get really into speedruns for a couple days, and it's very cozy to have a stream going in the background all the time
That being said I always like to see certain games or certain kinds of games, it was a weird run because it was mostly commentated by one of the developers but the Sifu run this year is a wild display of skill in a very demanding game that I really liked seeing, no glitches no skips just someone kicking the shit out of every enemy in the game in like forty five minutes flat, super cool

Stepmania X's music is a crack hybrid of ITG, Pump, and ex-DDR composers, and it's amazing how they pulled off the songlist.
(I'm not a huge fan of the gameplay itself, since the fifth arrow is awkward, but I appreciate the effort, especially the amazing Megalovania background.)
schedule is so insanely on fire i assume they didn't want to burn a big run like that late at night, i've already missed a bunch of big runs because they just fell too late

The schedule seems wildly strange, I have to imagine they’re running long basically all the time

Note that it is not stepmania X, it is stepmaniax (step maniacs), it's a fork of stepmania from some of the devs to make an original enough rhythm game that they could make a full commercial arcade game they could sell.

Yeah I really enjoyed that Ratatouille run, especially for a short game where the bit doesn't outstay its welcome

I also loved the Super Metroid/LttP randomizer run but that'll depend on your Patty tolerance.

They just did. Still 25k away, definitely do-able.
Maybe Fangamer or 26Kg of Raw Bacon will do it
