    no that's boring

And I would say overall harmful to imply that any important black characters in the universe must come from this one fictional African country.

And you're be missing out on the opportunity of giving Ororo reason be super critical of Wakanda's isolationism while neighboring countries suffered.
Killmonger already had that critique in Black Panther, though

Not saying it can't be brought up again but that doesn't seem like a hefty enough reason to mal Ororo Wakandan, IMO

If anything it would be even more pointed to have her be from one of those suffering countries and be pissed off about it

Yeah no, I mean it's a good reason to make her not Wakandan. Like it's great you're out here helping out now, but you're telling me ten years ago while we were next door suffering from a plague/famine/war etc you could have easily solved you were just hanging out in your flying cars? It'd be good to have a point of view that sees the newly emerged Wakandan outreach with some context.

It's also important for true diverse representation, to have characters of different backgrounds with different viewpoints who can clash with one another, or else you wind up with cultural tokenism.

honestly i'd rather storm have a solo movie more than any other x-character solely for just how powerful her story actually is

i've always felt she is the most underserved character out there by being constrained to a team

she went from thief to goddess! that's a dope as hell journey!

Isn't Storm's backstory (at least at one point) that she's Kenyan and lost her family in an event that collapsed her house? Seems like the kind of thing you could really easily write, if Wakanda must be involved, as a jab as Wakanda's failure in helping develop their East African neighbors

I really, really don't want Wakanda to be tied to Storm in a significant way

I think there are some interesting angles you can take with the Sokovia incident:

-- The destruction of Sokovia has a lot of indirect issues in the region, some of them impacting the small nation of Latveria. And with the Avengers not caring to help repair or clean up that mess, Doom just fucking despises superheroes.

-- The destruction of Sokovia leads to political imbalance and in a regional power vacuum, newcomer Victor von Doom swoops in and sets himself up as a despot.

On its face I like this pitch a lot

My only concern is that it might look like they're trying to get some of that Killmonger vibe again with a black villain criticizing Wakanda for hoarding its wealth

    It could feel repetitive

Her mother is Kenyan, her father is an American photojournalist. Her parents met in Kenya, fell in love, got married and moved to Harlem, where she was born. Shortly after that, they moved to Egypt. They died when she was about six, during a terrorist attack I think (their building was destroyed and young Storm was trapped in the rubble for a while, which is why she's claustrophobic now).

As an orphan she worked for the Shadow King as a thief for a bit (and initially met Charles Xavier during this time when she picked his pocket), and then at some point after that left and became a goddess. I think technically that was in Tanzania, because it was said to be in the Serengeti (which is over 3,000 miles from Cairo, so who knows how she ended up there).

Man, what if the MCU just went ahead with the idea that Xavier has been mass mind-wiping folks to erase any coverage of the X-Men (or larger mutant threats) but all of those incidents are still big historical moments.

So the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Three-Mile Island incidents? Still X-Men events.

The more I think about it, I want a tv show X-Men that takes place between events and crisis. Every episode opens with something like “Phew, I’m glad we stopped that robot rampage!” and then it’s just about Jubilee trying to teach X-23 about fashion. The rest of the cast are trying to stop her because she is bad at fashion, hitting all the beats of a hero team vs a villain.

Nightcrawler pranks! Rogue accidentally absorbs Angel’s powers and gains his mannerisms, slick hairdo and abs. Someone is stealing other people’s food from the fridge, so it’s up to the genius Beast and street smart Gambit to take them down.

So the question of what to do about Magneto got brought up in the D&D thread but I wanna know what you guys think. What do you guys think should be done with Magneto as we get farther away from WW2? A lot of people felt his origin should just switch to a different more recent genocide but I can't really see it. I may simply be ignorant of the topic but the holocaust still seems relatively unique in a number of factors that make it an important touchstone. I was thinking maybe it would be fine if his power gave him an unusually long lifespan.
