There is a theory going around, about Far From Home, that is backed up by some rumors that were confirmed by the trailer:
Nick Fury isn't Nick Fury. He's Chameleon and is playing Spider-Man as part of Mysterio's big con.

Really hope this is true, but realized a flaw
I believe Maria Hill is also in the movie?
I would imagine she is the one who would clue Peter in on Nick being a phoney, if this is all true
That requires Mysterio and the Chameleon to know about Parker's secret identity, which is a trope I would hope they could avoid for at least a single movie given Parker is like the only MCU film hero whose identity is secret. The world even knows the Hulk is Bruce Banner at this point.
Eh I am fine with it in this case

The idea of this gang of superpowered thieves and con-men stumbling upon the fact Spider-Man is some teenager on a class trip and using that to pull a huge job is super entertaining to me
Also it'd be kind weird to do that plotline just four months after a movie that has Skrulls in it.
MCU Chameleon is a Skrull who stayed on Earth and set up shop, boom done

(Obviously none of this is anywhere close to confirmed, I just really like the idea of a bunch of super con men playing Peter Parker for a job. Thats such a good plot.)

    What if it’s a Skrull.

And they are setting up secret invasion.

I know that we all know that the snap is getting undone, but it'd be nice if Marvel Studios at least pretended that there were big things at stake in Endgame.

I think if marvel had much say in how Sony markets their movie this trailer wouldn’t have dropped until after Endgame.

You're entirely right; this is Sony. Before Venom became a surprise hit and Spider-Verse showed it had legs and won a bunch of awards, the only thing they thought they had in the blockbuster category was MCU Spider-Man 2. Marvel originally wanted to keep things under wraps about which characters were getting solo movies, at least until closer to Endgame's release, but Sony jumped the gun so they figured "Well, fuck, okay, I guess it's never too early to start marketing."

I think that this Mysterio is gonna do a full Booster Gold

He starts off using the elementals for his own gain but spidey inspires him to take a stand (that shot of him sans mask is definitely from him showing up at the finale to provide timely assistance

Isn't footage from that scene, with the mask on, what the kids are watching on TV at the end?

I mean the scene where he says that you dont wanna mess with him

I'm assuming he "fights" the elementals in the opening (the footage the kids watch) and then the second scene is home actually stepping up

They appear to be in the same location though

So unless they have a big fight in the same spot twice that wouldn't work

Boy Howdy does the new Black Widow book from the Soska Sisters seem like it is Not For Me
Nat has basically decided to be The Punisher after coming back to life post-Secret Empire and is killing bad dudes despite Cap's protestations.

And her mission brings her to Madripoor where she discovers a child kidnapping ring where rich people vote on which kid they kill, and how, and live stream the results on the dark web.

It's not, like, character assassination or anything its just an INCREDIBLY DARK ~TWISTED~ story that is very much not my cup of tea

Heck if Homecoming is any indicator you'll have like almost the whole plot in the next trailer

Homecoming very explictly did NOT hint at the biggest reveal in the movie in any of the trailers and that was the big emotional core of the climax so

    Not really?

Also the homecoming trailer flat out lied at some points (shot of Iron Man and Spidey swinging/flying through New York together.)

I don't know that I agree that it was the big emotional core. It's a good bit. But I don't think it structurally changes much at all.

So I basically stand by that the great majority of the movie was in the trailer. And if this is twisty as people expect, we'll be seeing aspects in the marketing.

Heck it seems like half of the speculation has the plot pegged down anyways.

Yeah I dunno why we are just assuming the trailer is on the level.

Like, none of the last few Marvel travels have been on the level!

I just rewatched a Homecoming trailer. And it's pretty much the entire movie in order minus the reveal. So I'm sticking to my opinion here

If Vulture wasn't Liz's dad Peter would have spent that night at the dance and the whole climax wouldn't have happened

It tied the Peter Parker and Spider-Man plots together because now the villain he is trying to take down is the father of the girl he likes and has screwed up with and he has to make the call to choose doing the right thing, screwing up with her again AND taking down her dad, over enjoying his dance.

It also gives Vulture the personal stakes to raise against Peter as he learns his identity and directly threaten's Peter's friends and family.

Its basically the whole reason the final act of the movie happens!

to elaborate, he's my favorite spider-man villain behind venom and maybe scorpion, so i was DELIGHTED to see him pop up without knowing he was gonna be in this

i wasn't 100% feeling what i was seeing in the trailer til that point but if he's involved then the rest of it clicked

Not a chance. Mysterio is like the heeliest of the heels when it comes to Spider-Man villains. The guy practically invented twirling his evil mustache. There's no way he has a redemption arc imo.

These designs are great, I love it when the X-Men all have a unifying uniform theme that each member personalizes

They, more than any other super team, should look like a coherent group rather than a collection of individual heroes

    1. That's not true. and
    2. Because they want to do a Sinister 6 movie too.

Mysterio had a face turn helping spider-man defeat doc ock when he was gonna destroy the earth.

Also he legit retires for a bit before being killed and revived by an unknown force as maybe evil.

Like, I can name maybe 5 spidey villains who haven't had a temporary face turn.

With the exception of maybe Sandman and Venom almost any other face turn has been about either them lying about reforming or temporarily working with Spidey so that the world doesn't literally explode so they have the chance to rule the day some other time.

Obviously neither of us has seen the movie so you could be right. I just think it's unlikely and pretty far off the mark for who the character is.

Giving him the soft brown color on the costume paired with the curls and beard is the most Angelic that dude has ever looked

One of the biggest reasons 70s spider-man comics hold up so well in 2019 is that they go out of their way to humanize the villains in his gallery in a way very few books at the time did

Rhino, Shocker, and Phil Urich aren't great examples as they're still very much villains (Urich in particular). I agree that Spider-Man has always done a good job of humanizing its villains though. I just don't think that's happening here.

You make Mysterio a hero and all of the sudden they have to figure out what to do with him in the MCU. The fact that there's a Sinister 6 movie on the horizon just seems like the simple answer is he's just the villain.

Again, either of us could be right or wrong. We'll find out in a few months I guess. I really don't want to argue over conclusions being drawn off of a trailer.

Spider-Mans classic villains mostly not being evil and quite often kind of schmucks are why they rule so much.
