I love that in the English dub of F, Frieza uses the word "salubrious"
I also love that they used the theme song, F.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
You can tell Toriyama was not involved with this video because Vegeta gets to be cool and Goku's new form is actually visually distinct from Super Saiyan.
Haven't seen any scans but from what I hear next chapter coming reveals
Frieza found out about the Hyperbolic Time Chambers and used one to train for ten years from his perspective.
If this were any other series I might actually be somewhat concerned about this development. But ultimately it's gonna go the same way the status quo has been going

Just got out of DBS: Super hero, warning for those who haven’t seen it there is an after credits scene.
I think overall I liked it a lot but there’s a bit of the final climax that drags it down for me. Beam effects and the like look amazing and the fight staging I liked a lot but the like, early 2000’s webcomic style of doing highlights and shading still never really gelled with me.
My bones haven’t stopped crumbling to dust like Gamma 2 since the opening recap for people who weren’t alive to have seen Dragonball and DBZ.
That said I think part of why the art style for the movie never gelled for me was because this recap was absolutely gorgeous and I would pay money for them to remaster both those shows in this style. Like they didn’t need to flex on us that hard.
I love that like Magenta isn’t terribly wrong. Like at this point they’re definitely a shadow ruling class over earth and majority being aliens. And uh, between the last couple of movies we’re really going hard on casting Bulma in a very harsh light. It’s funny how they’re trying to merge the timelines in the dub and his full name is Hercule Satan. Anyways, everything with Piccolo and Pan was great. Gohan learning everything from Piccolo except how to be a good father less so. I appreciate how much more of a comedy this was, down to Piccolo forgetting things for a joke (growing big, wishing Goku & Vegeta here), or him pulling off a stealth mission as a 8 foot tall green dude.
Anyways, as far as the Dragonball shit, I knew about Piccolo’s yellow form but had completely missed being spoiled on orange Piccolo. Love Shenron playing favorites and giving him his own special power boost. Similarily I knew about Gohan Blanco being real but it was a cool sequence the design however feels very Dragonball AF though. Love how they both got forms with matching red eyes.
My biggest problem with the movie comes as the big Cell fan. I didn’t really have confirmation of Cell being in this movie the same way I did the other new stuff so I wasn’t sure if he actually was in it or not. And turning my boy into a brainless kaiju was… not what I hoped for. They even brought him back in his worst form! At least give me kaiju Perfect Cell, the weakness would have still worked. To go back a bit, I was actually kind of shocked by Magenta shooting Hedo and then firing two into his supposedly dead body.
Speaking of the comedy, Vegeta beating Goku finally, in an after credits scene, to absolutely no fanfare, was hilarious.
Orange Piccolo is such a terrible name. Know what he could have called it? Dragon King Piccolo. Calls back to Demon King Piccolo from Dragon Ball and his coloration is mirroring the Dragon Balls themselves with orange color and red eyes (stars on the Balls). Plus Shenron himself gives the power up!

I saw DBS: Super Hero yesterday, and it was a good, fun movie. It had comedy, it had drama, it had character moments, it had nostalgia and I would totally recommend it to anybody that has any reasonable level of familiarity with DB/DBZ/DBS.
I was disappointed that the final fight was against basically a mindless kaiju that sort of looked like Cell, instead of being actual Cell with his personality and memories. That said, the fight ramped up in a very satisfying way and became more interesting as it went. (Why didn't Cell have his regeneration?) The Gammas being misled instead of evil was not the direction I was expecting them to take, but I quite liked it. Gamma 2 having some sort of holographic projector for his sound effects, and Piccolo's response to that was fantastic. I loved the line about the Super Saiy-ant, really sold to me that Gohan is a dad now. Kid characters can easily end up annoying, but Pan was the perfect mix of adorable and smart and strong. The expression on Videl's face in the still art during the credits as she came home to her house sinking into a crater was awesome, though I feel she kind of got cheated of screentime by basically just being on phone calls a few times and nothing else. I guess Android 21 is now kind of canon, as they used her picture for Dr. Gero's wife. I was kind of hoping initially that she would be the scientist to make more androids for the Red Ribbon Army, and then the final boss after absorbing either the Gammas or a more regular version of Cell.
Overall I really liked the movie, I just wish the final fight had been less Kaiju and more actually Cell reborn. I know they did that already with Frieza, but Dragonball doesn't have to be original to be good.
This uh seems to be a thing the Dragonball creative team wants now given recent events in the Super manga and I hate it a lot
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

It's nothing new just annoying even more than basic numbers. Golden Frieza, Super Saiyan Rose, Royal Blue Vegeta, etc. Cramming the whole damn color spectrum in there.
I do miss the more interesting names. Super Saiyan seems basic but it sounds cool and looked even cooler. Imperfect Cell, Perfect Cell, Super Buu, Kid Buu, Majin Buu, Majin Vegeta, etc.

Well I mean in the manga
It seem like it was just a thing for this arc because it will kill you or turn you into some kinda zombie. Which was telegraphed as soon as they told everyone about the compressed lifespan thing.

I like Golden Frieza because Frieza specifically chose Gold because he wanted to one up Super Saiyan, and he specifically says as much and it's a neat little character bit because he's such a petty bitch
Im a big fan of the super movies but I'm very gobsmacked by the low effort transformations
It seemed to me that they were setting up up Piccolo's new form to be well, "all he is plus a little more". It seemed to be implying that his new form might be a natural extension of Namekian absorption. Like, each personality re-emerging or something. Felt like that would have played with the movies themes and story regarding him. Then it's just nothing? The transformation is completely unmotivated? Whatever I guess it's not a big deal. I just don't understand the low effort.
At least Gohan's transformation was motivated by his trademark rage freakouts.
-First of all Pan was adorable. Just a complete breath of fresh air in the way that none of the other kid protagonists have ever been. I really hope that she signals a distinct change in the way that women are handled in this series.
-I think that a common complaint to the people have about the movies that I just don't agree with is that they lack stakes. They definitely do lack stakes. Beerus is hinted constantly as not wanting to really destroy the earth. Frieza shows up and is completely out of his depth. Broly is dangerous but I never actually felt like the Earth was in danger from him. I don't really think this movie threatens the Earth or anything either. Goku and Vegeta are always waiting in the wings along with a dozen or so other characters. I think that's all fine. I really love the vibe of all these movies of being low stakes fun affairs. I like that it focuses on character drama. The biggest stake in this movie is about Gohan getting back into the game. That's good stuff. I feel like it was already covered in the anime but maybe that's filler?
The general vibe of the team showing up emphasizes to me that this is less a monumental moment and more like a last-minute party where anybody who wasn't already working shows up. I love that. I love the characters are just showing up to have some fun. I'm a little (extremely) tired of Trunks and Goten's antics but for the most part it was very enjoyable.
-I love that a significant portion of this movie was just Piccolo running around playing spy. That whole gimmick was just really fun.
-All of the transformations in this movie were terrible. Like I was feeling a lot more generous about it when I watched it but good God get it together guys. Piccolo taking on the colors of the dragon balls were kind of cool but what low effort nonsense. Gohan's transformation at the end was actively bad. Just awful. Possibly my least favorite transformation in the series. I don't know what it is about the hair but I hate it It just looks so bad.
-The action scenes weren't great either if I'm being honest. It might just be growing pains from a new medium but I was not filled with conviction that they'd be able to make CGI art that looked anywhere as stylish and amazing looking as the broly movie did. A lot of the beats involving Piccolo rediscovering all of his old techniques were fun but the moment to moment stuff just left a lot to be desired. The moment I keep coming back to that I'm kind of disappointed on is Gohan getting back into action. I feel like there was a really good chance to tell an interesting story with the visuals. Really make us feel him getting back into the swing of things. I never felt that. Just as he transforms his punches do a bit more damage. It doesn't feel like his actual technique is improving. Equally not wowed by the Goku Vegeta fight which considering the interesting rules have the opportunity to look like a fight we haven't really seen since original dragon Ball. It just felt completely wasted.
Which all adds up to say that I still really really liked this movie. As long as they keep pumping out movies of this quality I'm going to be happy watching them for a long time.

Super Hero spoilers
Just saw this today and y'know I'm kind of on board with Kaiju Cell. Like, there needed to be SOME difference so it wasn't just a complete retread, we already had enough actual villains and there was absolutely no time to characterize him anyway so sure, stick him in an incomplete form and just hulk out. Been a while since the last giant enemy, let us have the "Can't you get that big, Piccolo?" moment, the gang taking potshots which would've been way too busy if he was normal-sized.
I wanna say they just worked off the blueprints of the body and didn't actually have the genetic material which would explain why no regen (that was from Piccolo) but I'd have to rewatch to say for certain.
But overall, just having a movie mainly for and about Piccolo was great.
Only knocks were being taken out a bit by Pan being *way* too on the ball for three and the shiver that ran over my fucking soul when Beerus was horny for Cheelai and I could feel the internet going to work.

Boy, they really ended up in a boss fight where they very specifically needed someone whose signature attack is floating above someone's head and shooting a power beam at a downward angle, huh, shame you just don't know anyone with a special ability is "I float over your head and shoot a powerful ki blast at a downward angle", huh, shame you don't know anyone who did that against Cell like 100 times
Just saw Superhero today. Piccolo's anger at Gohan for taking Goku's parenting technique was great. Pan saying something about "Grandpa" and Piccolo's response being, "Who? Oh, Goku, right." was amazing. Piccolo knows what he's about. It's a shame Gohan is determined to be a dork, but perhaps precocious Pan might have a better time recognizing and naming who her real grandfather is

Oh and visually the Gammas are entirely creatable in City of Heroes. Powerset feels a little harder to match. Could be a Dual Pistols/Invulnerability Sentinel or a Dual Pistols/Martial Blaster, or keep the Raygun holstered and make a melee slugger.
For Gamma 2's sound effects you'd have to boot up Freedom Force or Champions Online. Or Soul Calibur 6...

I also love that they used the theme song, F.
I decided to go with a female Majin to get a handle on things again before returning to my main character, a Namekian.
