Anyway Emongg pointed out that KarQ was streaming from blizz headquarters today, and he's a support main, so it's very likely that he'll be getting the first hands-on with Baptiste tomorrow
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
Picked this game back up after being away for a few (or more) months and I gotta say, I hate the tweaks they made to Symetra. The tweaks to Torbjorn at least seemed like a good balancing move for the character, but I really dislike taking her turrets, cutting them in half but letting them be thrown. Also not a fan of the half map shield thing.
Like the newer characters though. Ash and ??? (The gerbil) are both fun to play, even if I haven’t gotten the hang of the rolling ball yet.

I'll take that bet. Loser has to post a video of their proudest moments on their main. Oh the scandal - I'm not sure I could bear it, but I'm so confident in my position I'll wager nonetheless!
Oh Edit: also does anyone else think his design is very generic? He looks like a first-tier XCOM soldier someone hung a small towel on. Even for a human hero, he's pretty Standard Dude. Maybe he'll have a very distinctive silhouette like Ana...
Also should I be reading in to all that armor?
He kind of makes me think of Erik Killmonger from Black Panther crossed with Roland from Borderlands (1)?
The implied backstory and personality even more-so than the appearance.
Realized I should probably explain a little better about the parallels I saw in the character, so here goes:
The anger, the bravado in the present, the whole coming from a tragic background by way of being recruited into a military group and trained to be a ruthless soldier all makes me think of Killmonger (also the haircut while he was with Talon). But Talon being a villainous paramilitary group (instead of the armed services), his leaving to try and find a better path (rather than revenge like Killmonger), that's reminiscent of Roland's past with the Crimson Lance. The line at the end about it not being enough 'to just make a living, you've got to make a difference' also reminds me of Roland's turn from well-intentioned vault hunter in Borderlands 1 to rebel hero in the sequel. And heck, Roland even had a skill tree to serve as the team medic that made his bullets and grenades heal allies.
Mind you, I'm not saying that as a bad thing. I liked both of those characters a lot. I just thought it was interesting.
It's weird for him to be a grenade guy because he talks about bullets and his teaser said he was a good shot. But that's unmistakably his primary weapon with goop for ammo. Maybe it shoots bullets with a healing goop secondary?
It's very likely his gun is a combination weapon (grenade launcher and machine gun). It looks like there's a second drum magazine in front of the grenade one.
also if that picture is to believed, his gun has 2 triggers
Also friendly fire would just kill the game for me lol
There are matches where I can barely get on the point to score a pick without getting insta-shredded by the reds - I can't imagine how much worse just trying to stay alive on Tracer would be if I had to worry about friendly bullets too.
Like, seriously, the First Lesson of Tracer which took me goddamned months to get a handle on was just How Not To Die All The Time. It's harder than you'd think with that little health bar.
Learning to land shots was a distant second.

You know there has been a lot of talk about Goats and stale meta lately(mainly cause some Fortnite streamer was hating and made everyone upset).
And honestly I can't really figure out what would cause a meta shift at this point.
That said Brig has been weakened enough at this point, I think any more and she'd just be terrible(and I say this as someone whose opinion has soured on the character).
Like...I think Goats just has a lot of parts that work well together so its hard to point out "the problem" also hard to figure out the "solution".
That said OW has always had the one meta to rule them all issue. Not sure how you'd fix it though cause I think its both a combination of something being strong and players defaulting to what they're comfortable with.

Maybe it's just The Deal now that there are two AoE healers in the game like the solution might be "enjoy the new animated short, everyone - Baptiste murders Lucio, Lucio's out of the roster and now Brig is the only AoE healer. No more speed boost byeee!"

Hey PC peeps!
I typically post in the SE++ thread, but if you're frustrated solo-queuing in QP with teammates who constantly trickle, mismanage ults, and decide to "poke for ult" when faced with three opposing snipers, you can do all that, but with PA people! We're a regular cast of about eight players ranging from silver to plat. A few of us were diamond at one point, but I think we all just do placements now. Typical play times for me are 9:00 PM CST to 12:00 AM CST and I think some of the ESTZ crew gets on earlier. We don't have a schedule. If people are on, we get together and play some Overwatch. Typical group size is a full six-stack. My Battlenet ID is in my forum signature so feel free to add me and the other regulars can provide theirs if they wish. You can see a video of our antics in February here!
We communicate actively using the in-game voice chat. We play to have fun, but also play to win, so expect to hear things like "reset" and "economy push". Also expect to hear things like "I probably should have held that ult" and "Me walking in the open with an opposing sniper was probably a bad idea".
For the GOATs discussion, here's the PA crew winning a fight against a smurf six-stack GOATs team last week. They rolled us on first point and we gave them a couple of fights on second, but had 5 minutes to hold the third.
Regarding metas, Smash Brothers Melee had a number of sizable meta shifts over the years. Some characters (like Fox and Shiek) were always considered strong, but a while back some characters like Ice Climbers and Jigglypuff would have been considered joke picks at the outset but win tournaments these days. Melee has been patched exactly never. It takes a long time for common wisdom to be overturned, especially at the pro level where they have to judge if trying out something new is worth potentially losing their livelihoods. The idea that there is a single unbeatable best composition per patch is one with a lot of cultural inertia behind it but it's not necessarily actually true.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

Agreed. The speed at which Blizz introduces/changes things that shift the meta does kind of inhibit the ability of the playerbase to find good strategies to deal with the new "OP" comps/strategies however. And since Blizz favors flavor of the month balancing, it's always a new "OP" comp/strat that you have to play catch-up to...or just take the easy road and also play that comp/strat. The impetus to learn an effective counter is lessened because the whole meta is just gonna wildly shift anyway, unless you're playing in the OWL, where the meta stays much more stable due to each section being played on the same patch.
Man what a weird set of abilities, what even is this character? My impression is that he's designed to incentive a DPS heavy comp - death prevention benefits glass cannon teams, together with the damage boost to end fights very quickly.
Immortality Field is an ability? That seems cray-cray.
Short duration but omfg a support CD skill that counters every dps ult in the game wtf.
I think the real crux of how balanced it is will be how much HP does the thing have before it goes down? If it can be taken down by a single Genji sword strike/couple barrage rockets/short burst of tactical visor...it'll be fun to see people bunch up, thinking they're safe, and then Mei's ult freezes everyone. Oops!

What happens with DvAs ult? Does it kill everyone but the DvA that launched it?
Also, now that i think about it, DvA's ult shouldn't hurt other DvAs. Now that would make things interesting.
Back when the game launched, I remember DVA's ult killing baby DVA if she didn't get away fast enough.
Yes. The madness of a hero dying to their own ult.
SMASH CUT to:
Tracer and Pharah sittin' there with big ol' frowns.
Don't forget about bastion.
Indeed - those were the halcyon days.

As with all competitive meta tactics, it was built on the assumption of tight team coordination. When you lose that, things don't work the same way.
Fresh idea: enemy Sombra hacks Torb's turret. The turret attacks Torb's allies.

That fingergun smile.
Yeah that'll be hard to balance. I'm glad Blizz brought the mechanic in though.
I wonder if it protects Orisa bongo though. Because forcing onrushers to kill that thing THEN bongo THEN the team might be pretty special...
