Everyone knows that, in development world, the last 20% takes up a majority of your time. They obviously estimated poorly on how long it'd take to port to the Switch.
A part of that issue may have been when they promoted this idea that they would release it in 2017 and it turns out they literally hadn't even started working on the Switch version until well into 2018.
As everyone knows, 2017 is the year preceding 2018. And the current year is (currently) 2019 as of right now. Currently.
Man, so it was around 10:30 at night and I think to myself "You know, I think I've been sold on World of Final Fantasy, lets give this thing a spin."
2 hours later I think I actually "played" the game in the conventional sense maybe 20 minutes? There was so much tutorializing and exposition dumping the Switch began dimming the screen for lack of input 4 or 5 times.
I guess I just forgot how much overhead a Final Fantasy game has before you are actually playing. Even a spin off. I probably should have blocked off a solid 8 hours to punch through it all and get to the game proper.
Thanks for saving me some money. For some reason I have very little patience anymore for games that frontload exposition and make you wait too long before you’re in the game. For instance, I didn’t even get to the actual gameplay of Wolfenstein II because of the story dump at the beginning.
(The fact that the story dump was fucking awful also assisted in my decision to quit the game and uninstall it.)
It is profoundly off putting to spend an entire night of precious me time, and not even have punched through the initial exposition dump and excessive tutorializing. Seriously, every single mechanic has a lengthy voice acted conversation with a PC that is literally dumb as a rock, as in being barely literate is part of his character. Then it has a pop up window that repeats everything you just heard. Then all the character muse about how useful said feature that just got tutorialized was.
Mother fuckers, I know how a god damned save point works. It's only been in every fucking Final Fantasy ever for 30 years. Respect my god damned time!
I did force myself to spend more time with it today despite the horrible first impression, and it turns out that original 2 hour session had just gotten me onto the cusp of entering the meat of the game. So now it's mostly gravy. Explored a proper dungeon, some overland, a boss fight or two. Good times.
I was 5 and 8 when those games released on the Apple IIe. Put hours into them and loved the exploration, stealth, and deception they provided. Was super letdown when all the games that followed were boring FPS titles.

Dragon's Dogma is up for pre-order on eShop. I just wanted to post this so I could ask who the hell is sound mixing these trailers and how can I make them stop doing whatever it is they're doing?
So bomber crew is something like ~60% off on the eshop and everybody should buy it I'd purchased it when it first came out on PC quite awhile ago and enjoyed it but man it just feels like it was made for the switch form factor and the controls are actually great.
In further "Nintendo support rated #1 in world" news:
Last night I figured "What the hey" and decided to get Starlink on sale. The bundle with all the DLC. Except my dumb ass bought the similarly priced DLC only bundle instead. After cursing my own stupidity, this morning I figured I'd try Nintendo support since I've nothing to lose by asking. Explained the situation and was super polite and submissive with the strategically placed happy emoticon here and there. Got the standard "We don't normally allow refunds on digital sales. ...But I guess we can look into it all the same.". Sure enough, a while later and they issued a refund. If anything I'm happy it was resolved in a day, since the sale ends tomorrow and I sure obviously like putting shit off till the last minute.

A friend of mine was irked by the trailer since it didn't reveal much about the gameplay. How would you describe it? I guess all they really showed was parkour/swinging around and collecting orbs, but the rating says blood and violence.
Also, Google has teased a big game-related announcement on GDC next week.
Wild speculation: everything will stream to/from/between Chrome/Xbox/switch as of this year.

That's pretty cool. As much as I'm really not excited to have Google as a company come into the gaming fold, I'm really interested to see what they are presenting. If it's a console, that's bad news bears for the big 3 considering the sheer amount of "Fuck you" money they can just drop on the project. If they're opening a gaming studio, that could be much cooler.
I'm so worried about streaming becoming a thing beyond just an option.
It's so freaking exclusive for so many people. Unless there's a server close to you, you're just fucked, no matter how good your internet connection and computer are.
I do love the concept, of course, but the physics of it are just implacable.

I'm not worried about a Google game console because, outside of a few noticeable exceptions, they abandon projects about as fast as they start them. Also, the Play Store is all kinds of shitty, so as a consumer I'd be incredibly wary of adware/malware-ridden apps on the system.

Googbox will likely flop. It'll either be to expensive or just try and pass off mobile games and old ports as a launch line up.
That's the other aspect - what can Google offer to make it a compelling option in the current landscape? Sony and Nintendo have the best 1st party titles. Nintendo also has the portability factor. Meanwhile, Xbox has the best online/social service. A dedicated console would have to be competitive with at least one of those features.

Is it just me, or does that port of FFVII look positively garbage? Just a hellscape of mixed resolution assets.

That's just Final Fantasy VII. It has not aged well, graphically speaking.

If you don't like a single thing in that video then maybe it's just that you're picky?
Where's my FFT Square-Enix? We want FFT and we will pay money for it.
Maybe they're holding off for the episodic HD 3rd person action game remake.
This is a big one for me. Also, if there ever was a game that could use the HD2D of theirs...
I will kill myself if that happens.
I guess it's just some random game but it looks cool.
Not before me you won't!
Actually, this has been a long con just to kill you off. You've had it too good for too long.

Despite owning this already, I kind of want the CE. Also the book. Also they have a plush grub!
Valley is pretty fun, I have it on Steam.
I'm thinking of getting Baba is You as a palate cleanser.
