When I was a kid I use to spend a lot of time playing MUDs and browsing Yahoo Chat rooms and Usenet. I was way to young to be doing these things. Thankfully in Middle School I found my way here and use to get teased incessantly for my bad spelling and grammar.

I would download a lot of freeware/shareware games, because I grew up in a Mac household and there wasn't really a whole lot else

So I would set the computer to download what are essentially now phone games, and then I'd go take the dogs for a walk in the woods for an hour and they'd probably be done by the time I got back

I was lucky in that my dad already had a second phone line for his fax machine, so I could stay online for extended periods like this without a whole lot of worry

In approximately 1995, my family bought our first "out of the box" pc, after my father finally tired of hunting down individual components to try to keep the old DOS machine working.

    It had:
    A 256 color monitor.
    Windows 95.
    A CD-ROM drive.
A sticker with the Intel Inside icon, referring to a CPU clocked at a blistering 90 MHz.
A variety of games, the only one of which I can recall with any certainty was The Journeyman Project: Turbo.

I have fond memories of playing X-Wing, one of the Wing Commanders, and Doom II with a Bubblegum Crisis skin/conversion that my older brother had somehow obtained despite us not having the internet yet.

Ah old Packard Bell box, how many hours of fun we had together. I now carry around a computer several times more powerful than you in my pocket.

Its still up just like a rpg where you and your friends can take over castles and hire guards and fight other players\take their castles or gold or go to a castle with no tax so you can farm for better loot

There where a bunch of different races and skills so depending on the build youd be a gnome for a higher stat or w/e

Also had like heaven and hell and some payment or something I dunno it was also a massive irc pretty much

The names a bit bad but the game was fun

Oh man, MSN was an ISP. It was as barebones as possible and it was great. They were one of the first companies to do the "first month is free/ additional months were a flat rate" instead of charging by the hour a la AOL.

I am really grateful for the internet because I can finally learn stuff at my own pace without people giving up on me
Before that I was really clueless and lost person just fumbling about trying to understand what's going on, everyone seems to be so far ahead of me
Now I can at least attempt to catch up or something even though it's a tad late

Queuing up 5 or 6 mp3 files on Napster overnight so it didn't clog up the phone line.

Wake up in the morning and like 2 actually finished and one of them was some weird Swedish song not what the title said.

I remember being part of an x-files chatroom back in the day, with the cool alias of 'Duke' because Duke Nukem was the coolest guy, you know?

At one point one of the regulars there pulled me into a private chat room and emoted pouring me a glass of red wine

I was scandalized, immediately left, and never went back

After Anarchisto I got really into lockpicking for a brief time and changed my screenname to LokKey, because it's like Lock & Key and can also sound like Loki. Note that this was way before the MCU so I don't even have a pop culture excuse, I was just a dumbass.

Oh hey everybody what's up it's me your boy chrishallett83 here to drop opinions on cars and otherwise generally be terrible online, since 1998.

My screen name is my actual name and year of birth.

    Because I'm INCREDIBLY creative.

I can't actually remember the very early shit I used to get up to online, the places I used to go. I remember my friends and I sending each other links to truly horrible traumatic videos on sites like Steak & Cheese and Ogrish of terrorists beheading people, freakish porn accidents, gory motorcycle crashes and other miserable garbage like that because we were stupid edgelord teenagers in the late 90s and that was all fascinating/hilarious to us.

I still have and use the original Hotmail account I signed up for right at the start of my time online, it's easier and faster to use and gets less spam than my gmail account of the same name. Yeah, that shit's over 20 years old and it's still my primary email account.

I remember creating a binder full of printed articles about Zelda 64 back in the day. It was dial up so I couldn’t be online very often and was abysmally slow, so anytime a new screenshot or preview was published on what would eventually become IGN, I’d print it out so I could pore over them at my leisure. This was probably 1996 or so, so I would have been 16.

For what it's worth, in my mental voice I always read your name as THREECLIPSE! (yes, with the caps, yes with the single exclamation point.)
