There is something wrong with my Mateus clear (or me). I need to farm a small pile.
First two were sub 30.
Second two were squeakers over 30s.
Now I can't kill it anymore.
I think I'm leaving phase 1 early, then staying in phase 2 too long for Barrier to go up again, which makes the boss unkillable that late in the fight.
The other aspect is Edgar. He can Imperil 4 times a turn, or not at all the entire fight. The variance is making want to die. I just want surety when I load the fight I will walk away with a kill. 5 hours for 5 clears makes me think I'm wasting my life.
Upgraded a Madeen to 99 and swapped it into my Madeen team, apparently that makes a sub-30 with Seifer/Riku very possible. Wonder how it's going to help other teams out.

With the 6* fire machinist ability, you "should" be getting imperils every other cast. Which should be quite frequently, especially if you have Edgar's triplecast LMR. "Expected" imperils per turn is 0.775, with a range from 0 to 4 as you note. Plus whatever you get out of his USB chase. I wasn't enjoying Edgar's randomness, so I put in Mustadio who is much more consistent, as his USB is always exactly 2 imperils when cast.
You absolutely need to have someone removing Barrier with an armor break whenever it goes up, or You're Gonna Have a Bad Time.
Zack provides crit damage up, rather than crit chance up.
I feel like when we're talking about Awakenings, the ability boost and doublecast will push Faris chain over Zack chain relatively quickly because of the higher chain cap.
The higher field bonus and ability boost makes up for a lower crit chance overall, I think.

I gave Edgar Thunder God mode, he casts raider than imperils. Tyro also has the 5* imperil after wall and all 4 of my clears hung out at 6 stacks of imperil. I had the whole first phase though I think.
For those scrounging for mythril, don't forget that it's the start of a new month; 5 mythril available for clearing your monthly Magicites.
I took my new relics for a spin (Rikku chain, Bartz AASB) on Phoenix. It used to be a pain to do it with just Imperil, and I was never able to crack sub-30. Now, 21 seconds without much optimizing. Have mercy!
I think Phoenix will be my new Arcana farming spot from now on.
Syldra still proving annoying with my only real damage dealer being Bartz (and ice not being one of his preferred elements). Laguna doing imperil solely through LMR/ability isn't proving super effective.
Trying out putting in Rosa with USB2 and wrath, but she seems to be having a harder time with it than Elarra for some reason?
Holy shit just to remind me that my luck is limited; pulled on the LOTR FF1 pull (I still haven't done most of them), Dupe WoL BSB. I guess it's great having another +holy damage source?

Not having Elarra USB is probably my single biggest problem on most fights.
Without her, there's not a lot of people who can survive in the Reflect spots.
I also still need to fit in Imperil Fire somewhere.
Locke is probably a better DPS with his AOSB to finish the fight than either Awakening, plus he might as well be immortal, self healing for 9999 every turn.
Too many necessary pieces. It's just a farm fight, I don't want to Legend Dive still more people for it.
I'd probably put Krile in 1/5, it doesn't matter if she gets killed after chain goes up. Ignis is also an option for being immortal if you punt Locke.
Sora should be dealing 160k (or 200k if you splurge for the 5 hit spellblade) per turn guaranteed, plus chances for doublecast if you have the LMR, plus the chase after your third hit. That should close out plenty well compared to Locke AOSB, and it's way better output on all the other turns.
2 B4 Pulls netted Faris Chain, Rosa's new USB, Rosa's LMR2?, Cloud's endark LMR.

If I'm honest with myself the only thing left I really really want is Butz AASB, and regular want is Terra AASB and Cloud dark USB. Can't risk another pull. I'm now in the position of having both of Cloud's dark related LMR's and no dark soul breaks for him. Oh well.
I'm starting to wish I had grabbed Ellara's USB instead of Onion USB from the USB select...
The Record Dungeon Pick Up Banner should drop later this week, and should have Elarra's USB 1&2 on it. This is the "pull twice, get third pull free" banner.
There's also another USB Dream select but it's a full price gem pull.

Like, even if I land dispel right after the haste, the next three turns happen so fast I have people who were full HP that just straight-up die. Some of my people have level 4 imperil by this point, and they seem to be taking hits from full HP that just wipe them.

If I recall, I slow rolled the first half a bit so that I would have stuff to throwdown with at the end. AOSBs would help there but I had to make do without.

It looks like a solid glint but I’ve now pulled 4x on the rest banners and got 5 relics, none of which were my targets and 2 of which were dupes. I have 2 more pulls budgeted on banner 5, so hopefully my luck turns.

So I've gotten to 90%ish, swapping Laguna out for fucking Noel - turns out consistent imperil matters more than more damage with random imperil.
Problem is that unless I get insane doublecast luck, Bartz can't kill the whole thing within a single chain/awakening.
That's the 3rd refresh on the Realm Draws right? I haven't done the first one yet (saved a lot for the fest) so I might get on that later this week + LOTR.

Yes. 2nd refresh is in a month or two, and will add elemental draws as well.
Does include two XIV artifacts, 6* abilities honed to R5, full legend dives, over 100 magia per character, and a well-optimized 5* magicite deck, but give this player a break, they didn't use any SBs

What's the message, what's the takeaway? Don't mess with Maui when he's on a breakaway?
6* Abilities are really good?
The main takeaway might be that Ultima Weapon is the "easiest" torment, since you can actually heal the fight with one healer, no SBs, and only one character self-healing. (Though in the writeup notes, player does mention that Yshtola has to doublecast on one of the first two turns). Also making that torment "easy" is that pretty much everyone in the realm has a great legend sphere.
A strategy takeaway could be that Defend is (still!) very good if you aren't particularly concerned about time.

Anyways, I finished up my Mateus and Manticore, kind of scared to try wind, but really want those attack/mag boons.
Manticore was really tough for me, even with Terra AASB. Its so much damage.
Speaking of so much damage, my god that GIlgamesh/Enkidu fight was rough. Every single one of my healers turns it is instant medica or die.
Kefka was pretty fun, although apparently I was having so much trouble because he has a stealth dispel. When does FFRK get Quick?

Elarra USB isn't on Lenses, so I'm getting it by hook or by crook. I'm tired of reading clear threads and seeing nothing but it.
Once the off-element changes hit, then most AASBs are, at worst, off-element ability double USBs with a damage cap break attached.
