I think there is a delicate balance between having to grind and getting stuck. For me, the fun of this game comes from trying to figure out the optimal gear sets for characters, creating teams for arena/gw, and overcoming difficult pve challenges. I've recently completed all the pve stuff and I find that I miss having difficult floors of the abyss I need to conquer. It seems like they haven't added any high in pve in a while and I think increasing the frequency of this content would help a lot. Even if you need to create different teams or gear different characters it gives people something to strive for.
For the gear system I think there needs to be something akin to the pity system in summons. It feels so bad to grind forever and get a few pieces of gear that almost made it to greatness, but just missed the mark. Or to get that ring with perfect subs with high rolls and flat defense on the main stat. This new system could have been that. Make people sacrifice six +15 pieces and take one aspect from each (i.e. main stat from one, set from another, and a sub from the other 4) and turn that into a new piece of gear. Grinding up six +15 pieces is still a ton of gold and resources, so this isn't a quick path to perfect gear, but I think it would make people feel better about rolling the dice to no avail like they do now.
That is fair but I also think some of the problems are because of that issues of people saying items having to have the affixes as if it was gospel. I know this is anecdotal (the math seems to work out when out when you think about it )but you can get really far with the right implicit affix, gear sets, and 1 or 2 proper affixes. The damage difference between flat and % got trivialized a lot with the flat staff buff. Now while it is still worse it is not in the same power loss as proper group comps and the the big breakpoints. And that main breakpoint is basically just speed for the most part but can be tankiness if you go stall etc. But also the proper implicits are a huuuuge part in the slots where they are the most powerful (right, amulet, boots).
For PVP comps you can make it even into challenger with just ensuring your group comps are solid and that they get to go first. My basar has pretty horrible gear hp and attack wise but he has the speed and I have Tangs Tome to ensure he gets me CR manip. My Lilias is in effect resist rolled pvp gear from last season so not great she has some speed on it. I got her some speed boots with pretty crappy affixes and a decent hit combo on jewelry to buff up effectiveness. And she does her job great as well. My CDoms has pretty bad attack as well but chasing crit dmg has made her a beast.
I know chase items are a huge part of this process because you want the flashy big numbers but it is not a requirement. It is a luxury on top of being able to put a team together of how you want to play. Like my Lilias Khawanna and Melissa group. People would probably laugh at 1-2 of the members of that group. But ive won a lot of towers with it. Mid Master to Challenger level guild towers.
I think being able to choose affixes would be great. A full +15 set would be super expensive and justifiable. And it would be great for end game. The system they put in though just mathematically is helpful for more people. I rolled a speed implicit pair of boots that had health and eff res and flat attack and something else I cnat remember. They wre a pretty significant upgrade for my Vildred. Because 85 speed implicit.
They made the choice in this game to make it much much easier to get characters without paying, and then they make you grind for gear. Considering the characters are the draw, I'm much happier with a gear grind than a character grind. It's super depressing to not have any useful units for stuff (though the balance in this game is relatively good imo)

Well I need to stop trying for Ravi then. I have wanted her since the beginning but holy Elena looks amazing. I know the general sentiment is aw man another water but we dont have a nat5 water soul weaver in the game right now available.
So I have 3 characters at 6 stars right now, Yufine, Lilias, and Seaside Bellona. I just about have enough of the Phantasma to get another character to 6 stars. I was thinking about using them to upgrade one of my healers to 6 stars, either Angelica or Maid Chloe so I have a 6 star team of 4, but I'm open to any suggestions? I do have a bunch of other 5 star characters too, including a few other healers like Achates and Tamarinne.

While I do agree, ML units are still crazy hard to pull and as more units get put in the game, for newer players anyways, they'll feel the sting. Overall though I like how they handle units and for once in a gacha game I have too many units and not enough gear to use them.
I think there is a middle ground around gear. Right now it's just too much and I think that's why folks are pissed off as they thought this new system would solve it. Here's the 3 components of getting even good gear (not even great).
1) Getting the right gear: The pain here is RNG, there are just too many checks. Check #1 gear slot, check #2 equipment level, check #3 set type, check #4 main stat type, check #5 sub stat types, check #6 sub stat starting value, check #7 which sub stat grows, and check #8 how much that sub stat grows by.
2) Leveling the gear - XP: To even get to check #6/7/8 you need to level the gear up. However using gear to level isn't easy since what 70-85 gear do you want to use? Hard to tell since you don't know what the growth will be, so what is garbage. 1 piece of 85 gear is only 756 xp, the lowest level rune is 1,620. So you need quite a lot of gear to level up. Generally it seem you want to use Runes then if the gear sucks, use it to level other gear.
3) Leveling the gear - Gold: You get 40K from a Hunt with 45% bonus on gold. It take's around 450K to get an item to +12, and another 450K to +15 (using Epic runes on 85 gear). That's 900K for 1 item or 22.5 hunts with all bonuses (around 30 hunts without the 30% bonus).
Looking at those 3 things, just some minor tweaks could really help keep players interested while not making it too easy so folks get to the end and have nothing to do. For #1, and easy fix would be to boost flat sub stats, like they did main stats to make them useful. Right now they are where main stats were and are basically junk. Also just remove some RNG, either with check #6, #7, or #8. Doesn't matter, but removing one of those would be a big boost. For #2, either make 70 and 85 gear worth more XP or lower costs on runes. And for #3, either increase gold received from hunts and such, or lower the cost. It doesn't have to be crazy, maybe make the 30% gold boost permanent.
What's the next thing you want to tackle? W11? PvP?
Angie is a great choice since she's useful in W11 as well as most PvE. Since her heals are based off of her own health, that 6* boost will help. If you want to rank up more in PvP, ML Chloe isn't a bad option. She too heals off her own health and extra HP for PvP is always great. Tam is awesome, but I had pretty good luck running her as a 5* for PvE since her S1 is off allies max HP. Also W11 is probably more important than G11.
Folks on reddit sub are pretty insufferable. She has a multi dispel her 1, a 2 turn regen, dmg reduction for aoe, and group invincibilty. She should rank up there high depending on multipliers.
Reddit said ML Ravi and DJ Basra sucks but it’s all you see on high end defense groups.
Doesn’t the dmg reductions happen pre crit? When I use Otillie on cleave groups it’s really significant. 15% should be ok in good comps for insurance on the speed ties.

I'll have some decisions to make for my next 6 star. As you said, I use ML Chloe in PvP. Also I've had a lot of luck with Tenebria in Guild Wars. I also have characters like Charles, Luna, and Vildred who'd be good to get to 6.
Angie is great but depending on your other 5 stars dps wise it may be more worthwhile to go more dps. Angie is fine at 5* as its not all the difficult to go after just health and some speed with whatever you can get in eff res and/or def.

To be fair, I think most folks expect new units to push the meta or counter a meta strategy. One of the common arguments is that Basar, who is in the meta right now, would render her S3 useless. However realistically it takes time to build units to counter the meta. I wouldn't have been surprised if her skill set wasn't designed 6 months ago. Also being water, she's not much of a counter to Basar. More that she seems to be a decent counter to SS Bellona.

Vildred would be another great option for 6* given his ability to be a great farming character. Luna as well would fit in the W11 group. Angie, Luna, SS Bellona, and a tank might work for W11. You could try for Crozet from the connections or if you can get Angie to 6* with 18K+ HP / 1K+ Def, she could tank for you. I use Candlestick for her so she's almost always using healing.
My semi cleave off basar/lilias/cdom/axe god is pretty savage as long as I outspeed my opponent. Only having 205 speed this is iffy, but once I'm done with golem farming for BBK it will improve.
It loses to tanky ml Ken and a. Vildred. But i'll figure them out after i've got an actual cleave team going.
I run J. Kise, A. Lots, Vildred with A imprint, and RT Roozid. I have the same issues, with ML Ken and A. Vildred. Otherwise I do ok. D. Corvus was also a tough out. I just switched J. Kise from Tonfa to Draco Plate which has lowered her damage a little but her survivability has gone up a bunch (can survive ML Ken counter at least once now).
Right now I'm fine chilling in Master. As long as I avoid A. Vildred and ML Ken's, I typically have a 95% success rate. My defense is setup with the same cleave units and weirdly my rate went up from 18% to 24% the last couple weeks (was using SS Bellona, Angie, Sez, and Vildred on defense).
Looking online it seems she works well with CR pusher and revive units? So maybe SS Achates and C. Dom? I was also going to work on A. Cidd and Charles though. Too many characters.

I run BBK but I wish she was Judge Kise. Mostly because my comp is built for Judge Kise more than BBK, but BBK does a shitton of damage anyway.
(I call the comp I use stairway to heaven, because it involved Aux Lots who pushes Tywin up, who soul burns S3, then CR+Attack and Crit buffs BBK, who lays down the pain with a soul burned S3.
Kise would be much better in that comp since I don’t tale advantage of BBK’s low heath murder potential.)

haha well my biggest issue with Charles is that I don't have Elbris. I'd mostly be building him for GW and/or defense team. While he's good against B11, I feel like I have other units that could do just as well. Right now my Vildred/ChampZ/Angie/Jecht group works 90% of the time. It just takes a while to get through. Down the road, I may look at a Vivian/Leo/Ludwig or Yuffine combo to try the 30 second type runs.
Some minor updates coming to the new systems:
1) We'll be getting a free pet once per day like we do summons. Snacks will be added to a daily rep quest.
2) The equipment conversion will take less items and gems will drop more often from the World Boss.
3) World Boss is getting an SSSS level with better rewards and some form of guaranteed rewards if you take part in the battle regularly.
Also noticed there are some HP arena sets listed. Are those a repeat that I missed or something new?

So world boss is kinda dumb. Rewards are meh. But I got an 85 lifesteal boot with attack main stat and effectiveness/critd/critc/speed so CZerato is pretty excited!
From what I gather it's basically copied directly from another game. There was a post on reddit that had some really cool ideas around a fun way to setup the World Boss by breaking it into phases that impacted each other. But I doubt we'll get anything like that since it sounds like the pet system took them a year to build. They just don't seem to have enough developers to handle large improvements or features.
I highly doubt it took a year to dev the pet system. They said they were going to put it in awhile ago. But as often happens in the industry it got delayed by other things.

I'd hope not. I haven't even really touched it since I don't quite understand it. I tried fusing but some units I could, others I couldn't. Not sure what affinity effects. Once we get the daily pets, maybe I'll look into it more. For now I have some A/B ones for runes, hunts, and sidestory/ap that I use.
The pet system is not as bad as people of Reddit say. It’s always on passives basically. So even non top tier passives on pets are pretty significant increases over the zero we had before. The main drawback of course being a currency to use the auto open feature and the rng of the affix pet gens.
But yes it is a system made to eat currency in a Gacha.
