Did I miss his quests now that he's sitting wounded outside Ashina Castle? I just beat Owl.
If you proceed far enough into the story that the Tengu of Ashina has left the Great Serpent Shrine Sculptor's Idol but you have not yet obtained the Mushin Esoteric Text from him, Emma will give you the Mushin Esoteric Text after the events at Fountainhead Palace
According to the wiki - if he's not at the Serpent Shrine.
Edit: this is assuming you got the Ashina style from his rat-slaying quest already.
I did get Ashina, but it was the second quest I never completed. Emma didn't give me anything, so maybe I still have to do it? I couldn't find the second batch...
Works like this:
Talk to the Tengu in the fort - he gives you the Rat quest.
Kill the rats, you get the Ashina style.
Master any style - that is, get the ultimate ability in any skill tree - and talk to him again to get the Mushin arts.
IF you've mastered an ultimate skill but the Castle is under attack and the Tengu is gone, go speak to Isshin Ashina in his room and he'll give you the text (Isshin is the Tengu).
IF you've already beaten (NEAR-END-BOSS SPOILERS)
the Divine Dragon
, speak to Emma.

Actually killed him on my first try, lol. Got two of his lives as stealth stabbys from the air, then went toe to toe like a boss and made him eat steel.

Speaking of Bloodborne,
the way the game starts out mundane(ish) and slowly gets more and more supernatural reminds me a lot of BB.

I 100% agree, but even more than that, Bloodborne was From Software breaking away from the relatively slow pace of Souls combat for something much quicker and more kinetic with all those quickstep dodges. To me, Sekiro is the spiritual sequel to Bloodborne. It'll the next step in From's evolution of combat, and it's way faster, more complex and more fun.
I imagine (if we ever get a Bloodborne 2) they'll return to the dodge-heavy style, but after this it'll feel like playing Dark Souls 3 after Bloodborne. Pretty good! But, y'know, I'd really like a Bloodborne 2.
After years of wishing for a Bloodborne 2, this is it. And I love the setting so much I can't even begrudge it the lack of vampires in top hats.
Chance on

After all the stuff I had seen and heard about the final boss I was fully expecting the fight to eat up most if not all of this evening. As it turns out, it didn't but it was still a fun technical fight even if the challenge was so-so after some of the previous stuff.
1st attempt: Why am I getting one shot by the warm-up act? Ohhhh... Bell demon...
2nd attempt: Hello there Mr Spearman, are you also a free deflection kill like phase 1 and 2? Oh you aren't and now I'm dead.
3rd attempt: Can I parry lightning? Nope, I still can't parry lightning.
4th attempt: Listen up gramps, if you keep trying to poke me with your stupid stick I'm going come over there and start smacking you around with my sword. Aaaand he's dead.
So I've locked myself out of the 2nd owl fight I believe and based on how often he is mentioned here did everyone else check a guide to make sure they got it or did I just rush through part of the story without ever checking back with npcs.

I don't know why everybody is complaining about the difficulty, I haven't died once so far. Though, I haven't bought or started playing the game yet, but that's besides the point!

I avoided Bloodborne because Dapper Werewolves aren't really my thing, and that's what I was lead to believe the game was about. Also, Dark Souls II parry without the option to block is what I was told the mechanics were like, and that's a solid "Nope!" from me.
Well, in Dark Souls II & III you've got wind-up frames, active frames, and recovery frames, and for most medium shields, your wind up time is the same amount of frames as most opening attacks, so if you have reaction time slower than the speed of light you'll miss the parry every time. So if you want to parry you've got to go with a small shield, which is riskier, which makes parrying a high-risk, high-reward tactic. Which is why heavy armor/high stability shields with 100% block reduction are so popular for first play-throughs. Signing up to not have that option seems like a non-starter for me.
Lady Butterfly attacks with summoned phantom butterflies.
In the final phase of his rematch, Owl summons a spectral owl for misdirection and flaming sweep attacks.
In his Shura form as the Demon of Hatred, the Sculptor's fur and posture resemble his namesake, the Orangutan (vaguely, this might be a stretch).
Wolf/Sekiro doesn't have a clear "namesake" ability like this. Is it possible he still hasn't reached the pinnacle of his abilities? That would seem ridiculous, given what he's already overcome...but that might be an interesting direction for ability progression in a DLC/sequel.

I feel like an idiot, but I could use a nudge:
I just got to the Great Sakura idol, but I don't see how to get across the water to that new section of buildings east of the mini boss. He's already toast.

It's MUCH easier than DSII. Find an opening, blast them in the head, enemy is staggered, then shank them for maximum damage. Also, the atmosphere is incredible.

Where that giant fish from hell is? Because I just saw that, and ow.
I think I sequence broke the game by leaving Guardian Ape so late as I was getting npc dialogue about how thw castle was being overrun by Shinobi and it was super puzzling because everything was the same.
Until now, fucking cool hat wearing mofos are everywhere and even more of the stupid purple Prince fans, now with an entourage of pups!
I got to the top most floor and the cut scene happened but thankfully i could nope out of there and drop down a level to where the save was. Of course there was a surprise waiting for me through that door. Joy.
about the death of your father when hes killed you so many times that when you finally succeed you are vendictive enough to want to shit in his corpses mouth.
God i fucking hate Owl. actually i think the main problem is the same problem with Genchiro...that arena is way too fucking small for the fights. Owl's range is insane, and those two damn suits of invisible armor by the doorway you can walk into while luring your target around can fuck you over every single time.

Managed to get all the way to his third phase without using a single gourd.
But I don't know, as soon as he went reckless, I can't help myself and I got reckless too. Burned through all seven gourds and three pellets. I will admit, eating away at the remainder of his health was pure luck. I'll take it, though. I am a shinobi after all.

Genichiro became one of my favorite boss fights of all time when he
leapt into the air and fired four arrows at me and ching ching ching chin I deflected them away, and when I figured out how to parry his long string.

I used Kuro's charm at the start of NG+ and it wasn't too bad for the early game but once I hit Genichiro I noped out hard on the debuff. Not having the debuff does make the game feel a bit too easy but on the other hand being able to blitz bosses due to getting better at the game feels rewarding enough.
yesterday and HOLY CRAP was that a great feeling. I don't think I've that much of a rush of adrenaline from beating a boss since the first time I ever beat Martyr Logarius.

Dammit. Thought i could somehow save scum in a game that doesn't have save slots. Idiot, Isy!
You can save it.
On PC you can copy the save file then replace it when you've finished that path. On PS4 you can upload a save to the cloud or copy it to a USB, then use it to replace your current one when finished.
If you save just before making that choice you can access each ending much quicker, though you won't get all of the achievements associated since you'd be overwriting your completion of some of the bosses.

Seriously though, good to know for subsequent play throughs. Because im totally going to best this game.
Just remember it as you approach the endgame. There are another 3 possible endings available, and you can do the prep for all of them after the that fight (I'm 100%, 'cause I did). Once you've done that prep and acquired the necessary items, proceed through the endgame, get to the last fight and then just make a save prior (or even after, from what I've heard?) the final battle, get your trophy, put the cloud save in, do Ending 2, reload the cloud save and get ending 3.

I think I screwed myself out of a Dragons Blood Droplet
Black Hat Badger quest and things you can do afterward
I did the kite puzzle and jumped across the chasm to the idol you can only reach that way, and then got to a point where I could jump down and kill a snake. I ended up on the other side of the collapsed bridge in Sunken Passage and then i tried jumping for an item and fell off the spot into the water. Now I can’t get back up there and fextralife says there’s a Dragon Blood Droplet there. Is there another way to get to that spot?
Ashina Depths and Hidden Forest bosses
Second Snake Eyes fight was a pain, because I first had to take out a few of the other enemies without alerting the boss, and then she’s got those moves with the gun where it’s hard to tell if she’s doing a sweep or a kick. But I hit her with fire a few times to whittle her down and managed to chip enough to get the win.
Mist Noble I stumbled onto, and I killed him so fast I was surprised he was even a boss. Dropped down from rafters for the first deathblow. On his second bar, double ichimonji strike took half his posture, and a second took the rest. Whole fight was maybe 30 seconds. I heard he’s supposed to be hard? Usually I struggle with even the “easy” fights but this one felt pretty straightforward. Or maybe my favorite combo of “jump on face, hit with combat art, repeat as needed” is OP for mid level bosses.

Yes, quitting after killing the final boss and backing up your savegame file totally works. There isn't even any pressure to time your quitting since the game will wait until you actively do the next part to trigger the endings.
