the real final boss is the the desert dragon's boss gauntlet
And that's why I never got the Hylian shield.
Goddess shield is just as good anyways
uhhhh the hylian shield looks 5x cooler
Yes, but functionally the Goddess Shield regenerates so fast as to be effectively unbreakable anyways iirc.
Lol I totally broke it yesterday. In a mini boss fight. When it went away and I realized I'd have to rebuy and upgrade it again, I reloaded the game. :P
Demise down. I had a hard time grabbing the lightning because my hand was shaking so much (part of the reason I am so bad at FPS games on the computer). But I brought the invincible potion for a reason!
It's possible that the dragon created that as the very first Hylian Shield and all subsequent ones are copies, no? Obviously the dragon is gonna customize it to Link, so he gets the red bird.
I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a game I loved. the joycons are so bad even with the custom grips
I can't even open the map without moving myself forward several steps because of how close the stick is to the minus sign.
I couldn't beat the first ghirahim fight because everything is just poorly done
wish I could take back both purchases because this just isn't fun =/
I've made it a habit to press Y every time I have my hands in a rest position to keep the joycon's from having issues with what direction I'm facing. But yeah I don't have any of those big grip things and I struggled a lot with some fights simply because my hands would get sweaty and it was hard to keep everything gripped. At least the Wii Remotes were big enough to stay in my large hands!
I'm glad to go back to normal games that don't use motion controls though. I wish I could have gotten used to the control-stick attacks but I never felt like I could do what I wanted.
they are very constricted. made all the more difficult due to waggle
edit: to give an example, when going against enemies that are easy or fixed, the controls are fine. you can line up strikes or simply waggle them down. when enemies are faat and require precision, the controls fall apart (for me at least) because the controls are so close together that under pressure, I inevitably blunder and mush commands I don't intend to
I know Nintendo controllers have been divisive since the N64, but I’m curious how people hold their JoyCons. I find them extremely comfortable and hate using standard dual grip controllers now. Did I just lucky in the hand size lottery?
Here’s what they look like when I hold them. They basically just gently lay over my fingers and the curves tuck nicely into my palms.

Maybe just use button controls and a pro controller?
Not going to lie I switched to controller for parts where I knew there wasn't much combat. Underwater parts in particular... also anything involving flying.

Very simple. I firmly hold the tops with my finger tips, gently snap them into the sides of the Switch. Then I put the Switch into the dock and use a real controller.
I hate putting on the straps because I know I'll have to take them off. And it kind of sucks to hop on your phone for a minute when you have it strapped on.

How the hell did you take this picture? Do you have a third arm!?

Camera trickery. I took my iPhone and placed it on the end of my table, looking down. Then I put my hands in place so they looked proper. Finally, using my right hand, I set a delay timer for 3 seconds, hit the button, and put my right hand back into frame. Once the picture was done, I flipped it 180 to look right-side up.
The lengths I go to for this forum.

It does make me appreciate actual detailed notes all the more, though.
Especially the ones that are willing to laugh at themselves (particularly IOI's notes for Hitman).
In Oracle of Seasons, the Rod of Seasons is actually capable of harming certain enemies. Mostly undead things, like Stalfoes and Poes.
If they remade OOS, I think it'd be neat if the Rod of Seasons got more powerful with each season acquired, until it basically is one-shotting undead enemies like it was the Biggoron's Sword.
Or if it was just the replacement for the sword entirely in that game, since you swing it like one.
And I finished it!
I don't know how to convey how amazing to me it is to actually finish Zelda games. It makes me quite happy and gives me a nice feeling of accomplishment.
Took me 40 hours, pretty fair time.
I really loved the entire ending. Groose is indeed worth the hype. I adore Fi and her goodbye was definitely an emotional moment.
I just assume that after the day is saved, the second thing he did ('cause you know the first thing he did) was head over and kick the ever-lovin' shit out of that pile of scraps.
Over the last few sessions, we got our next song, went to the desert, finished the Silent Realm, got our Clawshots, sailed the sand/water seas, got the sea map, finished the mine cart section, defeated the Pirate Captain, got our Bow, and started our way into the boat to rescue the crew. WHEW!
Highlights:
-She gets so jealous of Fi's dancing moves
-In the Silent Realm, she was pointing out locations for me, but getting way too excited if I got spotted
-She LOVES the Clawshots. Zipping over the quicksand had her so engaged
-Watching the sand turn to water was magical (honestly, it's really cool)
-Using the Peahats as Clawshot targets made her laugh
-"The ziplines look fun daddy!"
-The Pirate Captain fight had her yelling at me when I got to close to the spiked gate
-Seeing her understand what a Bow & Arrow is used for was great
This was quite a lot of ground to cover. I had meant to update earlier so I could have more specific details, but you know, life and stuff. She's really digging the whole Timeshift stone stuff, which admittedly is a really cool concept. When she started to watch the sand turn into water around us, it really made her happy.
Speaking of happy, my son isn't enjoying the game nearly as much. At 3 years old, he's really having a hard time disconnecting what he's seeing from reality. Like, the Plants are very scary to him, so I've been making sure to attack the with the Beetle instead of fighting them up close.
But let me tell you about the Pirate Captain fight. He was so scared of the fight that he started shaking and crying. Normally when something scary pops up, basically any enemy, he'd typically just walk away until I defeat the monster. But for this fight, he couldn't look away. I mean, he would, but then he'd look back.
I wasn't even doing that bad, so I think it was the combination of a skeleton, the close fighting space, and the ever-closer spikey wall that was too much for him. I paused the game when I saw him shaking and calmed him down. Once I unpaused, he got scared again, so I had him hug me and look into chest until the fight was over. Of course, he kept turning back to look and then turning back.
So yeah, a lot got down and we're closing in on flame number 2. I want to say we're about 2/3s done? I can't remember exactly, but at least halfway there.

little bit late, but here are my problems with using the joycons
Problems 1 and 2: I can't hit the minus button without moving. This isn't too much of a problem, but I did walk myself off a couple ledges trying to look at the dungeon map. The other problem is my fingers mush both the trigger buttons (especially pressing the top one)
Problem 3:
it is intensely uncomfortable to hold for more than 10 minutes. Holding it so my thumb lines up on the stick means I'm holding the actual controller with my middle and ring fingers only. Holding it comfortably puts my thumb up past the stick.
You gotta slide on the outside casing (which gives you access to the wrist strap). It makes the controller a bit wider and allows you to get a better grip on the controller itself.

I've tried that but it doesn't really help
neither do the much larger ones I bought
edit: it also doesn't do anything about the fact that my thumb overshoots (or undershoots) the stick depending on how I hold it

It allows you to change your grip slightly. But I do agree that I fucking hate the joycons by themselves. They're serviceable docked but if I have to use them outside of that it's always straight pain. Give me the Pro Controller every day of the week!
Playing Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity with my wife to finish it all off and I was messing around during the loading screen and realized that Terrako suddenly started moving. So I mashed more buttons and discovered you can make him jump (B button), pull out his weapons/put them away (Y button), deploy his antenna thing on the top of his head (X button), and move left (L button) or right (R button). I was so happy with myself then went to the Internet and discovered that people already discovered this back when the demo dropped, in October 2020. Oh well, maybe I will help someone else here at least.

Over the last few sessions, we rescued the crew, got the 2nd Flame, got our next song, went to the Volcano, got to the top, went back to the forest, got the water pot, fought our way up the mountain, finished the fire temple, defeated the boss, and secured the third flame. Good lord...WHEW!
Highlights:
- Finally bought the last Adventure Pouch for 1,200 rupees
- Upgraded our Beetle, Net, and Slingshot
- Flew around the sky to snag a few Goddess Cube rewards
- My daughter loves the way the robots insult Link
- "That is the best fire." "Why's that?" "Because it's red and pretty!"
- Her seeing the answer to a puzzle before I did (bomb a statue with a rock in it's mouth to release lava)
- "Daddy butterflies! That means we can draw on the wall or find a Gloop!" (her name for the Gossip Stones)
- Scary times with the centipede monster underground...until it rammed a wall and got dizzy, then it was funny
- "Maybe you should look at your phone." after I got stuck figuring out the fake wall.
- Her understanding that blue enemies are tougher than red ones
- "TAKE HIS HORN!" at every Moblin with a horn to steal. She finds their reaction to the theft hilarious each time
OK, that was a big hunk of gameplay which took place over a few sessions. Her Zelda knowledge and understanding has increased tenfold since when we started. She's starting to understand small hints like climbable vines, butterflies, etc and connecting the dots as to how to proceed. While some of the more 3-dimensional puzzles and controller dexterity are still out of her scope, I fully believe she could handle playing Zelda games on her own in a year or two.
For the most part, she's staying engaged to the gameplay, especially inside the dungeons where there are puzzles to solve. The overworld and sky areas aren't as interesting anymore since she's seen them a lot and they don't provide much interaction.
I've mentioned this before, but this playthrough of SS has been great. I remember nothing at all, so everything feels like a new experience, unaffected by previous knowledge. Adding my daughter into the experience has only made things better, although admittedly at time frustrating when she can't sit still.
As a total aside, for the life of me, I can't figure out the Ghiriham fights. Specifically the parts where he puts his hand out to catch your sword. It always felt random, even though I believe that's not the case. He seems to track your sword movements and catch it, but I've never been able to wrap my head around it fully.

For Ghirahim, the solution I used back on the Wii was this: hold your sword out in one direction (say, left) so that his hand moves out that way to catch it. Then you swing the sword further left so your attack coming from the right catches him. I think what you're actually supposed to do is move the sword back to the right really quick and then make your leftward slash, but the controls were so garbage for me I could never get that to work.
