I played a ton of frost punk endless mode this weekend and you can kind of tell it wasn’t designed to be endless because you hit “nothing bothers me” status relatively quickly.

Survival mode on the other hand is fucking bonkers and I’ve yet to survive the first storm.

In response to the question about the Epic store from earlier in the thread.

Basically what was happening is that, without asking, the Epic Store would browse for Steam files, decodes them to get your friends list and creates a file with the decoded information that'll just hang around if you decide you want to port over your friends list someday. Again, it does this without asking, and even though there's already an available API from Valve that would do the same thing, but without being sneaky about it.

There's also some stuff about it scanning for what programs and hardware you have, which is in the EULA but is still scummy. Valve literally asks before doing that shit.

Nothing major, but it does point to a larger picture that Epic really does not give a shit if you want them to have your data or not, because they're taking it.

Risk of Rain 2 is really, really good, especially co-op with friends. The potential for Wacky Hijinks is high once you start stacking items to ridiculous levels.

That seems like the wrong way to do a friend import feature.

In anything I know of that does something similar, it's opt-in and you log in to the account you're importing from.

The actual import is opt-in, the file scan is done before you opt-in and allegedly not uploaded to Epic servers until you actually click the 'friend import' button. Frankly with the way the progression of Fortnite went I 100% believe their explanation that it was a half-assed feature they added when Fortnite started getting big and they just never got around to re-doing it the way Steam expects you to (via apis and such). Just another thing to add on the list of ways their focus for the Epic store has been on the business end more than the development/consumer facing end.

Turns out a lot of software relies on the goodwill of us users to trust that the vendors arent exploiting it

Epic has not shown that at the moment and thats why people are calling it malware/spyware since its reading and collection info on well steam files

hmm, I wonder if humanity has spent more hours playing PoE or Warframe

every time I hear of anyone playing either of those games and I ask them how many hours they have in, there's always a casual "yeah I'm around 3000 hours or so" and then some other dude will be like "yeah I passed 27000 hours like a few days ago"

I'm smalltime. I only have 843 hours in Warframe and 545 hours in Path of Exile. And I barely understand either game.

Off the top of my head, my WoW account was probably over 12000 total hours (across 13 years) when I gave it up.

Also consider that the guy who made Steam Spy was hired by Epic to develop their launcher store app, and I think that says most of what you need to know about how far you should trust the Epic launcher store app.

I finished the Russian trio just now. I'm a bit bothered because I don't see any way to deduce which one was Aleksei and which was Alarcus. I ended up just plugging the names in one way, saw that nothing happened; reversed them, and got the credit. Did I miss something?

Holy shit, a 7th Guest remaster? Maybe now I'll be able to do what 8-10 year old me could never do and beat it. IIRC, there was a puzzle involving germs and antibiotics through a microscope. It was a Go or Reversi type game. I remember beating it once but getting hung up on another puzzle, but I never beat it again and it was my stopping point all the time. That puzzle made me feel really stupid now I think about it. I think there was another one involving a carpet too?

There is supposedly a way to get every single one, but I have no idea what. I think I guessed for about, idk, ten of the fates or so? I definitely had to for the Chinese topmen. On balance I feel like I did okay, and better than I had expected to at the start.
