those are pretty! a bit hard to read but very pretty
Yeah, the Kickstarter came across my desk (read: I saw it on Twitter) this morning, and this was my first thought as well.

I really like one or two sets, but I think most of them are pretty illegible. On the other hand, I don't know if I'd want to use dice like that; I feel like I'd just want to look at them.

I wonder if they have good balance or the non-homogeneous materials throw off their odds at all significantly

It's not casino quality but they said it's not too bad for casual gameplay. Most dice aren't going to be perfect and as long as you give them a good flick I doubt you'd see too much variance.

I get the impression the UA enhanced features are meant to replace the basic ones completely if you opt to use them at all, not be an alternate option

My thought it they are preparing for a PHB 2 and these are ideas for it.

If you ever have the pleasure of meeting Louis Zocchi at a convention and ask him about his Game Science dice, he will tell you for as long as you are willing to listen about the science of perfect dice making and how Chessex is garbage crap. Hes a cantankerous old man and I love every time I get to speak with him.

I have an assortment of dice. Especially d20s, because if they're rolling bad for me, I'll bring in a replacement.

and I have like, ten d6s in various sizes and colors that I must have stolen from all our boardgames.

I also have my special DM d20, which is translucent with white numbers and is basically impossible to read, so I can still cheat rolls if I happen to not have a screen to roll behind

edit: oh and one of dad's worn out old 70s d20s for Path/Starfinder because it tends to roll 9s for me and with the bonuses I get that'll still come out to a reasonable score

The GS dice are still injection molded and that creates a bunch of things why they're not going to be "perfect".

They aren't tumble polished though, which does go a long way towards making sure they stay symmetrical.

I was eagerly awaiting that kickstarter as well. Gorgeous stuff.

The only KickStarter (out of 18, with another still live) I've backed that never came through was a metal dice KS. When I was dealing with that, I found the reputation among dice KS was that they very seldom actually followed through. Still the case?

That was in 2013. Kickstarter never did do anything about the guy taking the money and disappearing, despite what their TOS says. It made me even pickier about the projects I back. My bank did honor a chargeback on my credit card though, even though the project creators kept stringing everybody along until the 6 month window for CC chargebacks closed before disappearing and going no-contact. So at least I got my money back, but it doesn't seem like anybody else did.

Yeah they're still light, and the painted numbers rubbed straight off my D20 and are coming off all the other dice in the set. I tried multiple times to organise a decent ultra-fine tip gold paint marker to re-ink them with and that turned out to be an expensive bust, so I've been looking at machined aluminium dice sets.

Unfortunately most of those seem to be soft anodised and the colouring comes off the edges fairly quickly, so fuck it - maybe I'll save up a few hundred dollars and get a set of titanium dice or something crazy like that.

So, I mentioned a possible-breaking talent in Rise of the Separatists last page, but mentioned it would take some time to get. I found out that a. with Collapse of the Republic, there's a variant rule that makes it possible to start play with said talent, and b. it's not that big a deal, because the talent isn't nearly as broken as I initially thought. (Specifically, I misread and its duration lasts only for the remainder of a round, rather than for an entire encounter.)

I just dug up my old Kobold 2.0 homebrew stuff for another friend, and thought I might post it here since I am not sure I ever did.

Not sure how much I like them now, but my current big mega-campaign homebrew uses drastically changed rules for some of the aspects of your race during character creation so it's not something I am likely to tweak.
    Kobold 2.0

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Age. Kobolds reach adulthood at age 6 and can live up to 120 years but rarely do so.

Size. Kobolds are between 2 and 3 feet tall and weigh between 25 and 35 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Alignment. The alignment of Kobolds tends to different greatly depending on geographic location, the culture of any given group, or even what colour their scales are. Chromatic Kobolds tend towards Neutral, Evil and Lawful alignments as they are often influenced by local dragons of the same colour as them. Metallic Kobolds tend to dwell away from the influence of evil dragons, and are often slightly more individualistic in nature, typically more Good and Neutral in alignment.

Swarm As One. Whenever you would make an attack roll, you may use this trait to gain advantage on that attack. You may only use this trait while one of your allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.

    Kobold Prime

Some Kobolds are born from eggs that have grown to be unusually large, and are of a size that is often a full head taller than their peers. These Kobolds are referred to as “Primes” for their imposing size (compared to a typical Kobold) and their tendency to be natural leaders.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength and Charisma scores increase by 1.

Size. Kobold Primes stand head and shoulders among their kin, typically about 4 to 4.5 feet tall and 50 to 60 pounds. Your size is medium.

Prime Confidence. Whenever you make an Intimidation or Persuade check, you may use this trait to gain advantage on the roll. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest. In addition, you gain proficiency with either Intimidation or Persuade.

Limited Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 30 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

    Tunnel Dweller

Most Kobolds will never leave the darkness of their warrens, and those that do will only ever do it at night. They’re usually quick and sneaky, but afraid of being alone or exposed. Groups of kobolds can be incredibly dangerous in numbers as their trait to work together overwhelms their targets.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity increases by 1.

Pack Tactics. Your Swarm As One trait is improved, and you may now gain the benefit any number of times between rests.

Tunnel Tricks. Whenever you are in a cave, thick woodland or any other sort of natural area that is enclosed or tightly spaced, and you are not in direct sunlight, you can use this trait to gain advantage on stealth rolls. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Sunlight Sensitivity. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack or whatever you are trying to perceive, is in direct sunlight.

    Kobold Shimmerscale.

Once every handful of clutches, a Kobold is hatched whose scales shimmer with an unnerving light. Many Kobold clans consider these Kobolds to be blessed, that the blood of their distant draconic relatives flows with strength in their veins. Shimmerscales often grow small, wings when they come of age and have a natural talent and inclination for study and piety, as well as a constitution from the benefits of their strong ancestry.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence or Wisdom increases by 1, and your Constitution increases by 1.

Gliding Wings. When Shimmerscale Kobolds come of age, small wings begin to sprout from their backs. While these wings will never grow large or powerful enough to allow for true flight, they can be used to glide or slow a fall.
You can use your reaction when you fall to reduce any falling damage you take by an amount equal to three times your level.
When you reach level 6, you can use this trait to glide. Treat this as a flying speed of 20 feet, except you cannot move vertically up and must move 5 feet vertically down each time you move using this trait. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.

Limited Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 30 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

See our financial circumstances are changing and while I REALLY REALLY want to back the Kickstarter for a few sets of dice (the Marianas Trench one, omggggggg), I really can't justify it. I've got 5 sets of Level Up Dice (which is just soooooo indulgent already) from when we could afford luxuries like that and I might have to accept that that's it. Done.

Blake did also reassure me that given the rate at which the Dispel Dice KS has blown up, you're not likely going to see the dice for a few years anyway, so we're just better of waiting until they are available on the regular (if the Kickstarter hasn't imploded from overwork by then) when our circumstances become more stable.

I do the same thing when I'm writing a paper and I have a page reference that I won't be able to specify until later. Personally I prefer the ~ character, since it's something that usually won't pop up anywhere else, but XX works just as well. The thing is, whatever placeholder symbol you pick you only ever pick one - that way you can clear them all up in one big Ctrl-F sweep at the end.

So for them to have missed any placeholders, it probably means they've missed ALL of them, because they've skipped that entire stage of the editing process. And if these errors have made it to print that also means they've skipped the final proofread. JFC.

"I'm sorry we accidentally cruise missiled your apartment complex"
-a Text message to the PC of Page, who couldn't make our Mage: The Awakaneing 2e session last weekend.

So a little more context for that is the players were lured into an ambush by someone imitating Gallchobar, the npc girlfriend for the PC Ember. They get to the woods where they were told to go, and call Gallchobar. She immediately tells them she did not message Ember to meet her in the woods at night, and they get attacked. They escape the ambush in Tul-Val's car, and call Gallchobar again. She gets attacked by a Mage who is stealing the really powerful magical artifact out of Ember and Tul-Val's house.

I thought I had thought of eveything. They were far enough away that the new major villain could throw Gallchobar around for a moment before escaping. It would heighten the tension and put a face to the banisher group they were fighting.

    I was a fool.

Tul-Val realizes he could throw his car into the realm of Twilight, also known as the inbetween realm ghosts hang out in where everything is incorporeal. Ember then uses the Velocity Control spell to get Tul-Vals car going a fucking whopping 1600mph. So they get to the villain and Gallchobar, fighting in the street, in about 12 seconds. They then make the car corporeal again about 100ft away from the villain, so it slams into the road and barrels straight towards him.

The villain, having rank 4 Time and Forces Magic, had seen this coming and uses the spell Turn Momentum, which allows him to change the direction of any object in motion. So he shoots the car at a 90 degree angle.

Which then hits Gallchobar. At 1600mph. Carries her, and then slams into the building nearby, which is the apartment complex that Page lives in. And then explodes.

Ember is fucking furious and heartbroken, cause her girlfriend just exploded, and with Tul-Val's control of the wind creates a fire tornado over the villain. Who laughs and teleports away.

(Gallchobar was fine, btws, because Fate Magic is ridiculous and so she took minimal (though still aggravated) damage.)

Yeah, there is a Fate Spell called, well, Exceptional Luck. It allows you, by spending Mana, to give yourself a boon (or hex an enemy) as a reaction. One of the Boons you can give yourself is called Charmed. One of the things you can use Charmed for is to spend the Charmed blessing to negate the damage to a single damage (though remember that WoD/CoD games have health pools in the 6-8 range) of the type you receive. So she literally manipulated luck to barely be hurt by it. Relatively.

It's been 28 years, more changes in management and ownership than I can keep track of, and the most steady through-line in White Wolf games is a bone-deep disdain for good editing standards. At some point they decided, instead of doing a better job, they'd just embrace it as a "fun quirk". So now there's shit like Indexes that actually include Page XX references as a deliberate joke... but don't include listings for core rule systems.

White Wolf as a system is only functional by the barest strings of mutual consent from the governed. I'm aware that all roleplaying games require a group consensus, but WW takes that to the next level of handwavium. It has all the narrative of a war game with the cohesion of a diceless story system. As much as I love the themes and flavors of Mage the Awakening, the thing is just a goddamn mess.

If they put a good index in, somebody might realize their game system was a broken, shambling monstrosity of poor design decisions in 2004, and it hasn't improve since.

Everyone’s mileage might vary of course, but I have generally found all of the 2E NWoD/CoD (including Awakening) to be solid from both a crunch and fluff standpoint. Better than the 1Es and the OWoD games all around as far as I am concerned.
