If I:
1. Loved The Div 1 and Platinumed it, and
2. Really enjoy multiplayer games, but often lately prefer to group up with randos,
Do you think I'd dig Div 2 rightabout now? Is it in a good spot, post-launch-window? I see that it's on sale, and I've wanted to pick it up since launch but felt I couldn't justify it with my backlog. Is the playerbase somewhat healthy on PS4?
I've been playing it since launch on the PS4. I'm running a second character up right now to get one of the trophies that I 'missed' on the first run through. The leveling experience right now is in a really bad place. Matchmaking is completely empty. I'm up to level 15 now and I've tried matchmaking for every single story and side mission and have not been matched a single time. (Compared to doing every single one of them in a full matchmade group around launch.)
The PvE game feels really bland and overall the game feels like a ghost town. Having said that, it might be that I've already "been there done that" on another character. All of the 'living world' touches are still nice to see but after you've been through it a few times you start to be able to see the strings, so it is less 'alive' and more procedural. As much as I really enjoyed running through the "story" (and that's in quotes purposely) the first time, doing it over the last few days has been something that I am doing to accomplish a goal, and not for fun. So for a new player (or a low-level character) the PS4 population is best described as a Ghost Town. I really can't recommend the game right now.
Having said that the low-level DZ experience is a lot better now. The populations feels higher than it was around launch and I'm having interactions (both positive and negative) with other random players every day. When I was leveling up the first time I would run around the DZ for hours and hours without seeing another player. And the lacking that "what will happen next" tension, the DZ was just a one to two hour farming location every few levels to keep my gear current.
With all your feedback and data gathered thanks to the Public Test Server and after intense internal discussions, we wanted to provide you with more information on what to expect when Title Update hits the Live servers later in May 2019. For TU3, we've made a lot of changes to the PvE experience by adjusting the time to kill, NPCs, player survivability and the difficulty of missions and Control Points, to name a few. We've also made changes to gear, talents, mods, Recalibration and more. After reviewing these elements and results from the first week of the PTS, we decided to not increase Gear Score beyond 500 with Title Update 3.
Second bomb:
Some time-sensitive Commendations have been removed / New ones added
The Commendations "Consecutive Days Playtime" and similar ones have been removed
They did not provide a good player experience and they did not want to force players to play the game with requirements that are also difficult to track because of timezones etc.
Unlocked commendations will stay visible
A vanity patch will be added to compensate for lost time.
They will add other commendations where you can prove your dedication to the game without the login-requirement. (30-day playtime in total etc)
Aw shoot! Is that in tonight's patch? I'm sitting on 27/30 for the stupid 30 day thing and I was really looking forward to finishing it!
EDIT: After reading all of the patch notes I'm left confused about the intent of the DZ changes...
Bosses now guarantee a contaminated loot drop.
Higher challenge landmarks can drop multiple contaminated items.
Basic, Veteran and Elite NPCs have their drop rate lowered, but now have a very high chance to drop contaminated loot.
Contaminated loot will drop below the players GS and will guarantee GS 500 when the player has reached that GS.
So, you're making it more likely that I'm going to get contaminated gear that is LOWER gearscore than what I already have, and this is supposed to make me more likely to pick it up and waste time trying to extract it? I mean, the primary reason non-PVP people go in there is to get "better" gear. If you want people to just shoot each other, get rid of loot in the DZ completely and every player that goes in is "rouge" level as soon as they clear the door. Why even bother with the illusion that there might be any kind of reason to go in other than "shoot other players to pump your e-peen"?

I thought the new DZ was one of the few things Div2 just did much better than Div1, so of course they are making it worse than it was because they seem to be catering to griefers...? Somehow I doubt thats a big part of the playerbase, yet a very vocal one.

Update 3 is next week, so it'll be in there. I'd assume that "below" is a typo or transcription error and wait for the official notes to be sure given that it goes against the rest of the DZ intent.
*edit*
I just noticed in the news post on the launcher that it specifically says regarding gear score 500 items in update 3 "DZ Contaminated loot does not drop below player's average Gear Score. When you've reached an average Gear Score of 500, Contaminated loot will guarantee Gear Score 500 items"
I am very happy that they didnt decide to up the gear score to 515. I dont mind it increasing eventually, but its too soon at the moment. I like what I have seen with the new gear sets, they look to be more functional and might actually be worth pulling two or three piece for some to make some interesting builds. (I do miss how piecemeal you could get with gear sets in Div 1.

OK! here is how the pruning is going to go, if you are still playing on PC post your name in game and in a few days ill trim members down. I get it that people have took a break waiting for some new content (like the Raid) and thats ok but lets get everyone who is still active in the same pot and then will we add folks back in once the new content comes out.
If you are in the overflow guild on PC and still playing also post your in game name so I can add you once we trim this down.

Well, that ,makes a lot more sense. If you're guaranteed to get "better" (higher GS) items then it would be a good change. As it is right now, after a couple hours of farming, you hit your GS cap. When loot stops being a factor, there is no reason to pick up contaminated gear, which kind of short-circuits the DZ loop.

Wait, does it not show activity on the clan roster? That. . .is dumb. I (wheatthlns) pop in at odd hours but was sure at least you could see the last time people were logged in. That is. . .less than ideal.
yea its like.. I have no idea when last login is for anyone, and I know ill feel bad if anyone who is actually active gets removed, at least readding if need be is simple.
The shitty alternative to a last login notification is just leaving a message on the clan interface in-game (credit goes to @DrEwPhD who gave me the idea).
Purge has happened. We are at 24/50 for main PA clan. I apologize if you were removed and are still active. If you are overflow clan and want to move over now is the time to send your requests.

Welp, I finally finished the stupid stupid 30-day commendation. Luckily there were two holiday weekends in my 30 days so I only had like three out of the full 30 days where I had to maneuver my schedule to make time for my one-hour-one-mission-one-day every day.
Next step is to complete all of the safehouse bounties. My alt character is up to level 18 now and starting in on the west side safehouses. I actually already did all of them but didn't get the trophy due to a game bug. So I'm being extra super careful this time around. Once that's done I can get back to working on my gearscore.
Although this isn't new to this game, this is the first time it's actually impacting me in a good long while so i'm gonna complain here for a hot sec.
$40 for a year 1 pass on a $60 game riddled with bugs at launch and minimal story/plot cohesion. This is why everyone waits for 40-60% sales and say that $60 for a game is too much money.

The Year 1 Pass was $40 for some extra doodads (three backpack trophies), instant access to the future specializations w/o gameplay to unlock/purchase them, and access to the episodes a week early. You'll live.
edit: Just remembered the classified assignments, as they are what give the backpack trophies. Seeing as literally all the other major content in the game is free beyond the 7 day early access, still don't see the issue with the pass for this game.

Yeah this particular pass seemed like a really bad deal, even if you already think season passes as a whole are a bad deal. I don't as a rule, but they need to be upfront about what you're getting to sell me on the overall discount or extras. Some hats and 8 maybe 20 minute missions do not a good pass make, however if and when it goes on sale next year, maybe.
The "amount" of end game content this game has is also very subjective imo based on how hard your grinding it and consensus is typically that it's a lot better then contemporary games.
The map basically resets when you finish the game and gives you new talents.
The gear loop is pretty boring since making the number go up and finding a good AR had more impact then anything else build wise, but I'd separate that as loot design not amount of content
Eh I'd say content is also in gaining loot and not just doing things. Like does it really matter there is all kinds of things to do when the rewards for doing them is fuck all?
I mean we have 3 dark zones woo 3 of them! And that means jack dick for wanting to run them.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
