OK, got my 21% Delirium. Now to hoard completed bounties until Tuesday, then blow through rank 3 of Gambit before Opulence begins (this is what I get for not paying attention to the Gambit ghost being only available through rank rewards; totally thought I could get it from the Meatball, and wasn’t focusing on ranks at all).
yeah i am 9/10 kill invaders while they have super active and i was like woo close to dredgen and oh the last thing i need for the badge besides that is the ghost which i had no idea took THREE resets. i've already done 1 at least. i guess next week is a gambit grind week...
It killed my hype for getting it. I’ve had all of the requirements OTHER than the ghost since Black Armory came out. I just got so mad at having to grind out two more ranks (and BA being a mostly unfun slog) that I just stopped for a while. Then I realized the other day that I was at Mythic 2 and the season was almost over, so I went full on to finish the rank and get 21%. Now that I know there’s a triple infamy week, there’s no way I’m not abusing it.
i played some of the outbreak perfected quest last night and here are some random thoughts
is it just me or are gambit and gambit prime matches almost never a blowout these days? every time I log in for a couple of games they are nailbiters and very fun. I screwed up my sprint for melting point and it cost us the tiebreaker round
this game has so many wasted resources. EDZ is so big and detailed and 90% of it doesn't matter at all. They should have released with two planets and ACTUALLY USED THEM rather than releasing with 4 planets where half of the areas on each planet are irrelevant
The farm should be the main social space. It's way better than the tower. I love the atmosphere. I especially like how the football field isn't a million miles away so it's actually pretty common to log in and see people fooling around. I also think it's secrets are way cooler than the Towers. Only bungie would DESTROY THE FIRST GAME'S ICONIC SOCIAL SPACE and then replace it with its identical twin.
Still hate the grind. I'm like 678 so i might as well just wait till the power boost quest before attempting the outbreak perfected mission. The current grind design really sucks for someone that only has a couple of hours to play a week, because you are given a sophies choice of
a) grinding and being able to play the season's endgame content before the next season starts
b) just playing the content you like and resigning yourself to never getting to the new shit
I have a good feeling about Season of Opulence tho, I think it's going to be Good Destiny. Especially if there's a Leviathan patrol zone, then it will definitely be Good Destiny.

It really depends on what level of "playing" that is considered a grind. I came back after not playing all season and I was 663. I did all but two of my powerful rewards by playing a bit each night. I went from 663 to 687. For a game of Destiny's style I think the assumption is always going to be that you are playing multiple times a week or at least an hour or two a day. Games of this type simply aren't designed to only play an hour or two a week AND stay current with everything/ level up at a reasonable rate. For Destiny, I myself wouldn't consider an hour or two 4 nights or so a week a grind. You could probably go from 650 to 690 in two weeks or so if you are efficient in what you are doing. If you just want to do whatever, that's cool too, but the leveling process is going to be much slower. I dunno, I'd say it is currently the least grindy it has ever been (outside of using MW cores if you want to wear specific stuff while leveling) and the odds of it getting even less so are probably very slim.
Destiny 2 (and I think Destiny 1 as well) have always kinda suffered from their planet zones feeling pretty lifeless and useless. I think it's a multitude of things all colliding together to make them feel like a giant waste of resources.
Something like The Whisper mission or Zero Hour has like 10000x the personality of any of the planets.
At this point I'm not sure it's bungie's fault. I mean, it's their fault we've gotten to this point but the general population is just rock bottom, and no amount of matchmaking wizarding can unfuck PvP
They've failed to provide any reason for people who've hit Fabled to keep playing Comp.
Unless you are going for your NF, you hit Fabled for the season and then you just leave. You take your fancy new weapon(s) and you go brutalize people in QP.

Piss off one group of 6 people, or piss off 6 random people, repeatedly
Match make groups with groups, and don't show the X of 12 counter. Sucks for the premades if their queue times go up, but I think it would be preferable to just having those 6 people pissing off 24-36 other people every hour with their pub stomps
I don't think they have the people, the resources or the time to really deliver all the cool material they have setup. I wouldn't be shocked if nothing ever happens on Titan again. If they go the route of Destiny 3 being another separate release with none of the existing content brought forward then I'd think the whole cycle will just repeat over and over. The idea of Destiny being some enormous thing with all content from D1 and D2 that gets updated / added to as time goes on in some form of paid updates feels like the best way forward but one that Bungie has no ability to deliver on.
If there isn't a D3, I will eat my nonexistant hat.
I am not sure why PVP has moved so hard into DRB/LUNA/WARDCLIFF, because it is not like D1 didn't have meta weapons either. I think it is sincerely because they rotated PVP off to focus on other things and just don't want to do the work to nerf/buff/balance to at least mix things up.
I know they made plenty of people mad, but repetitive encounters and matches suck more than balance passes punching us. Because boredom is the real killer.
September is a long way away.
Also yeah Matchmaking changes could help a but they have to care first.

I would say the two most significant contributors to the proliferation of the "meta loadout" and how the common player perceives the meta are: grossly diminished active PvP population (exacerbated by distribution of overall population across three platforms) and the implementation of unified queues. To a lesser extent the archetype system for gun design has seemingly become more rigid, such that players are afforded fewer true options in their armory, instead finding an array of similar-but-differently named guns; this is of course a consequence of building D2 around static rolls and then shifting to random rolls to appease the community.
Bungie really needs to buff the reckoning weapon drop rate further.
My clanmate and I have been farming T2 every night since the weekly reset for like 5 hours at a time trying to get a decent Spare Rations. That’s like 30 hours worth of grind. And that’s just this week.
Between the two of us I think we have a grand total of 3-4 okayish rolls and the rest have hipfire grip or moving target...to say nothing of the fact that there are other weapons in the pool that drop too, and the fact that mostly you get blues.
"Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination."
Finally completed the Thorn strike. Wow, that was some old school Nightfall trash difficulty. Getting two hit killed by blackout thralls is just obnoxious.
Finally did a Petra's over the weekend. It went SO smoothly, and we were all so happy afterwards that most of us stuck around to do another run to knock out other challenges some of us needed. I feel like a great burden has been removed.
Now just need the stupid auto-rifle to drop and the seal will be complete!

So, silly question, but after the season that added 20 functional armor pieces, per a class, is there any talk of vault space increase or actually fixing collections to be useful?

Here's the secret to gear hoarding: delete anything that doesn't have a perk you want.
Done!
I'm half-joking. I've started deleting anything that doesn't have a perk I care about, specifically anything to do with special ammo, and Fusion reserves/scav or Light Reactor. I pretty much never remove my Telesto because I'm living in Gambit, and it's just too much of a workhorse. I'm almost always at full (19) shots with that thing, and if I'm not, I just need one or two kills to get a brick to drop.

It's funny but when I came back around this last time my Hunter had Fighting Lion still equipped from around Halloween. I basically never took it off this time around. It's actually pretty useful in Prime since it murders Envoys in two shots. Even took it into a Clash match to do the stupid Drifter quest and got an Unyielding with it. I'm pretty sure it isn't really good so much as not really used much but I had fun banking shots around corners and stuff.
New Crucible Pinnacle looks like a sniper, at least in the image.
Revoker - Missed shots are returned to the magazine after a short duration
Welp, I suppose we needed one pinnacle weapon I'd have a lackluster response to (although I suppose I didn't really use Lunas all that much even after hunting it for all of Season 4).
- The Menagerie armor set looks great.
- I guess that second row of objects are all Exotics specific to Menagerie? (Truth, Khepri's Sting, A New HC, A Sword, A Fancy Butt Towel?)
- We're going have to learn a whole new array of symbols for the raid aren't we? "Anvil - Bushel of Grapes - Monster Paw - Flaming Altar!"
-Menagerie sounds like a further iteration of Infinite Forest, where you input symbols into your chalice to define an escalating encounter sequence culminating in a weekly rotation of bosses; Bloodborne Chalice Dungeons Return.
- As Jay says, the likely value of the Crucible Sniper will come from its "neutral" perks, like a Shortgaze Scope and reduced Flinch.
2 quests, escalusation protocol, an intro quest and a raid
sounds like a pretty small season
I thought that was the whole idea behind the Annual Pass? 9 months of content all spread out. At least it's got a raid and not just gambit, but faster(ish). ;-)

yeah i guess because they said this season was about 'secrets' i assumed there would be a new patrol area to find said secrets in.
I also assume the 6 man will be timed and timed and secrets are no bueno

Pick what gear you want to earnnnnnnnnnnn
Of course not.

Astrocyte Verse and Truth too.
Cool looking exotic from Destiny 1 that was also one of the strongest contenders for most useless piece of shit exotic.
Light the Booker beacons (even though yeah no infinite charge hurts it a bit)
