I may have played FF8 A LOT. I mean it is my favorite FF even if it's not the best. I do hope they DONT use the current Steam Achievements because there are some that are INSANELY grindy.
I've only played FF8 one time only, but back then when I was a young lad with lots of time on my hands, I did practically everything there is to do in that game. I drew all of the materia. I got all the best weapons. I had all the best cards for the card game. I sought out every little secret. I leveled my party to 100, even though the enemy scaling in that game actually punishes you for being high level.
I did it all.
And I barely remember any of the story. So I'm definitely excited by this announcement.
edit: this is literally all the games my 14-15 yr old me wanted to play back in 98.
Oh fuck, the half of this I don’t care about is confirmed.
Are we really getting FF8 and SD 3?
We got everything but SD3
this might be a Nintendo reveal tomorrow along with mana collection (which was Switch only)

Edit - So people are crossing a lot of messaging; I have one group of people yelling at me that FF7R isn't episodic and will just be two parts; I have another yelling at me that we don't know either way. All I know is, Midgar - JUST MIDGAR - is what releases in March after several years, with a $330 CE because fans will throw money away.
Man oh man I'm worried about the amount of cutting that's gonna happen to Final Fantasy 7. They're going to do it in two parts with Midgar taking up two Blu-Ray discs. My initial thought is that a lot of what you learn and do in the various side towns will happen in Midgar. Character backstories and such. I mean, think about what the FF7 game path is. I've laid it out to the best of my memory below, behind a spoiler tag because some people have said they haven't played the original (you should get it, don't wait on the Remake because it's going to be different in most ways).
DISC 1
- Midgar (all the shit that happens within)
--- the initial bombing run
--- Tifa's bar / plot establishment
--- train to 2nd mission, tunnels and such
--- meeting Aeris, Sector 5 slums and Wall Market
--- train graveyard, the pillar incident
--- the climb up to Shinra HQ, Shinra HQ raid
--- Cloud has brain worms and Shinra escape
--- MOTORCYCLE WOO
- first town (Cloud backstory)
- traveling to Junon (Chocobo farm, the swamp to cross, the materia cave, Condor I think it's called)
- Junon; the beach fight and boarding the boat
- the boat trip itself / Jenova
- the beach town
- Corel / Gold Saucer / Barret's backstory
- Cosmo Canyon / Red 13's backstory
- Nibelheim / Mt Nibel
- Rocket Town
- Wutai / Yuffie (technically a side quest but people will revolt if this isn't in)
- Temple of the Ancients (LONG SEGMENT)
- going to the north continent, Aeris memes
DISC 2
- the snow town / snow fields / glacier (long segment)
- the north crater and ALL THE PLOT, like the black materia, the weapons waking up, Sephiroth, etc
- Junon and the weapon attack (long segment)
- Mideel (finding comatose Cloud)
- Corel Huge Materia (the train part)
- Fort Condor Huge Materia
- Mideel again to save Cloud from his Jenova brain worms (long segment, but a good one)
- Junon Huge Materia (LONG segment, going into the underwater facility and getting the submarine and such)
- Rocket Town Huge Materia / Cid's backstory / meteor is OP
- Cosmo Canyon to learn white materia plot
- north continent to get white materia
- Diamond Weapon attack (pretty substantial moment to not include)
- infiltrating Midgar, Shinra, Hojo and such
DISC 3
- north crater, lots of boss fights and such
I mean look at all that shit. I didn't even include the sidequesting there is in that game, and I'm sure I missed stuff or truncated things more than they really are. And they're saying the Midgar segment is going to be part 1 and the rest of the game part 2?
Things are being cut and I'm sorry that they will be.

Wow, I'm really really surprised about the FF8 remaster. I thought the source code and source material for the game was lost, making it untenable to remake it?
They said that Midgar was so big that they had to put it on two discs, and that it is so big that it's almost a game unto itself. They never said how many installments there will be. At least not during the presentation.

Also the exhorbitant FF7 collector's edition is probably mostly because of the playarts Cloud+motorcycle figure, playarts is SE's high end, very expensive figure line. The other playarts Cloud+motorcycle figure they have for sale, the advent children verison, is 300something dollars by itself.
I kinda wish they'd sell a more normal CE version with soundtrack and artbook without the figure for a normal CE price.
Everyone on the internet is yelling at me about it being two parts.
They have NEVER officially stated "two" parts. Just that the whole of FFVII won't be released as one title when it comes to the Remake. Anyone who goes further than that better have a link (because they are making up stuff).
they said it would be enough content to fit on two blue ray discs, which is where this is coming from. People are kinda taking that to mean it would be in 2 parts, as 2 games.

I kind of doubt there’s going to be much more game content in Midgar than there was in the original game, it’s just that the graphical upgrade is taking up a huge amount of memory.

If news released that "Final Fantasy VII Remake: Episode 1" would ship on two blu-ray discs... I could believe it.

Didn't they say in the presentation that they enjoyed having the chance to flesh out the world of FF7 so much? It seems like the implication is they are adding to the story.

They do. It's called the Deluxe Edition, it's $80, and I just preordered it from Best Buy as Amazon's is already unavailable.
The deluxe edition comes with the game itself, as well as the following items:

That could've been a general "over time we've been adding a lot to Final Fantasy 7," as in Advent Children and all that. Not necessarily FF7R.

Midgar was 8-12 hours of gameplay.
No way this is that short.
I'm not sure what all is being added, but I don't remember riding a bike in a tunnel with Jesse.
I think we're going to see a LOT more of the city.

Or Cloud and Aerith being encircled by some shadow creature when they first met.
Or Tifa punching a robot out of a moving train and then stopping said train.
Or like... any of the dialogue at all. Avalanche actually thinking about the innocents they are killing?
The original game is perfectly enjoyable today with a few graphical mods. Pump this brand new shit into my veins, I need MORE of this world.

I was really not one of those holding their breath for Tifa's design. But like the others so far they did a good job of remaining recognizable but really updating it for the times.
Also for most of the trailer, her facial expression definitely conveys more badass and less childhood friend heroine. In all alternative takes on her personality most chose to make her badass and I felt that was just a way more interesting character than the default Tifa. But maybe I just fell in love with how Team Four Star portrays her in Abridged.

Yeah, I'm concerned about them bloating out the game too much and diluting the story, but I would also be completely happy with a well-done expansion of material we just saw hinted at in the original game. I still play the original once every year or two and still completely enjoy it, so it's not like they could ever ruin the original with the remake.
At the very worst, the remake is crappy and not worth playing. At best, it takes everything great about the original and expands on it, plus adds awesome visuals and a combat system that is actually fun to play. There are vast chunks of the lore of the setting that are hardly more than hinted at and would make for some great expanded sequences. Case in point? Fixing up Fort Condor so that you don't have to go there personally for battles, plus giving us more background on the Phoenix and the monks protecting the egg. Expanding the Cosmo Canyon experience. A general expansion of all the towns and cities in the game so they feel like actual towns and cities instead of impossibly-small places to keep a few bit characters, shops, and some story. Hell, how about more about Corel than it being a Fallout-grade shithole that Shin-Ra wrecked?
now the only major "updating it for the times" hurdle left in midgar is wall market, woo
I have already steeled myself for them not clearing that hurdle.
I'm very surprised that they did such a great job with the Tifa design, so that bolster my hopes a bit that maybe they actually can tackle the Wall Market decently. A lot of what I like about that sequence are the comedy bits, so if they can keep the humor up without being terribly offensive, it should be workable.

This is what the base vs mods looked like. The image posted from the trailer seems to show some additional polys added and a much better face

They definitely updated the textures in FF9, but not to this degree

It’s just real weird to me that they did this.
The Switch kinda became the official non-FF JRPG console. Edit: something had to take over for the Vita.
did the seiken densetsu 3 part pan out, I don't remember that one in the presentation
No, but it was mentioned before that Mana collection will probably be tomorrow since it's only coming to the Switch.
