Another weird bug. None of my characters limit gauges are increasing. Even using moves that fill it do not actually do so. Makes the 'Use a Limit Break' missions somewhat difficult.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually pull a banner unit off of those 20/30% step up tickets.

Also on the list of odd bugs: in arena my characters will ignore target assignments today.
Like I target Ayaka and Cilka gets the single target hits. It seems to have something to do with selecting the target during your opponent’s turn then using reload or repeat, but I haven’t figured it out yet.
I blew 30k lapis, had a horrendous step-up with just one rainbow outside of the two gimmies: 1 Aerith/s, 1 Red and a Lulu. Oh, and the 30% ticket was Edgar #2 which continues the parade of breakers that this account seems to enjoy. I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually pull a banner unit off of those 20/30% step up tickets.
Between my friend and I, we've done five of these things across various banners. None of them have been on-banner. I basically consider them 5* EX tickets now and value it accordingly when deciding if I want to do the extra step.
The first 4* Ex ticket from the Community Event got me a Squall. Tossed the rest of my 4* Ex and my 4* normal tickets at the Aerith banner with nothing else of note.
So, I took a team of 4* Barrets into Legend with an Aerith. I should not have won this.
Aerith is apparently immortal. Half of the time she was the only one alive, raising and reraising her team. At one point, I decided, fuck this, she has an attack, let's use her to attack. And then she killed the boss.
Ah my buddy just felt his first heartbreak in this game. He's been saving for several months for Aerith and didn't get her. I think he got PS Rydia and Delita out of all his tickets and pulls. At least he didn't spend money like I did trying to get Sephiroth...
Say what you will about the Katy Perry event stuff, but she's a pretty good unit for arena. Four different black magic chains (Tornado, Quake, Flood and Freeze) and a non elemental Chaos Wave. Dualcast and W-Ability. It's a solid kit that should pretty much have something to use. She can counter physical and magic attacks, once each, with an AoE 1500 HP and 50 MP restore. Being a free unit, her innate stats probably aren't the best, but arena damage caps out anyway so a super high MAG isn't super important.

Awakening her to 7* is very cheap in gil, and leveling her from 101 to 120 takes like, two max gigantuars (probably less). I put two of her on my arena team taking the place of my other magic chainers (Summer Luka). I have no intention of grabbing her TMR since it doesn't do much for her or anyone else, really.

You get her for just completing the stages, and the stages also have Lapis to earn through the missions/completion. There's no reason not to get her, especially since this event will probably run for another 6 months of whatever and can be run when there's not a bunch of other NRG events. Also, all of the gear you can craft from the Katy event is pure ubertrash, so you can just run through all of the stages once and leave it be.

But what about the lapises you can get from running the event stages? There are some things of value to doing the event even if you don't want the gear or unit. Besides, NRG is a free resource. If you run arena, you spend more time running that (for 40 lapis) than you will to clear the Katy Perry stages for the bigger lapises - I think.

Not a knock on you specifically, but this mentality is probably why I'll run her in arena, just to troll the people who are hating on the event.
It's also two 7* awakenings to do for when/if we get the missions for 7*s awakened. That feels worth it, at the very least.
I'm not hating on the event I'm hating on having her anywhere in the game lol. But in reality it doesn't matter because I blindly run the arena anyway. As long as you don't run 4 Lilith's and an Ayaka then I don't give a shit who you put in your team.
In fact killing her over and over might be a little satisfying for me.

They haven't for any of them yet, I don't think. Which is a double suck because apparently the Lich trial that's coming up this month actually has a use for it.
Man the bonus stage was kind of a clusterfuck. So apparently not only does the boss have AoE death, he can multicast it, seeing how my Esther died, autoraised, and instadied again. Also, the boss survived the big LB Esther chain with 2% HP and murked everyone with AoE death except Wilhelm (who happened to be carrying the safety bit) and the friend Esther. Missed a lot of stuff, but I got the ticket, which was the big thing I was going for, honestly.

I think he casts it once for each threshold you cross (80, 60, 40, 20).

I, for one, am super excited. I hope they give Randi the buffs he deserves to make him enticing to pull for. I don't need him to be the top damage dealer. Being around RedXIII/Akstar level is enough really. He has some silly bulk to him with innate Ribbon and his GLEX SPR/DEF DH, so he'll be a great pick going forward for trials that need bulk and ailment resists.
Worst case scenario is he doesn't get buffs and I just have to make him work without, which will 100% require getting his STMR and hoping I pull Lightning#4 sometime soon.

Yeah I say that but I just saw Hallow Knight for $7.99 on the eShop. Which is less than I paid for Ignacio who I will never use... And let's be honest the EX Tickets won't give me literally anything.

Yeah if that 5* gets you a unit that you would actually use then I'd say it'd be an apt comparison. Since that $15 a month let you play that particular character or alts for as long as you wanted. Whereas it's likely you'll get a Delita for $12 and he'll be warming that bench.
But I'm a major hypocrite. I get buyers remorse all the time.
In my mind there's a subtle difference between paying for entertainment and gambling. Sure, gambling can be a form of entertainment, but it's more likely to upset than enrapture. Gacha is gambling, at least in my opinion.

Yep, this is pretty much my line of thought on the game. I sunk an embarrassing amount of money into WoW over 10 or 12 years between subscription costs and the occasional mount or pet purchase so the money I've spent on this game over three years is easier for me to justify. That said, I have no problem walking away from this when the time comes, just as I did with WoW. Based on what I'm seeing in JP, that time is coming sooner rather than later. There's just no need to pull on units that powercreep one another to Dragonball-esque levels every month.
Yeah, gambling feels more predatory than a subscription MMORPG. Blizzard is selling a service with WoW. They've gone deep into the loot boxes with Overwatch and Hearthstone, but I don't feel they've quite as much contempt for their players as Gumi. I just don't like Gumi. I don't like how they treat their players. I don't want to give them money. And I have. I've given them plenty. Enough that I don't feel bad for playing their game while calling them out for their bullshit.

Run it and then sell the units. Or better yet, merge them into a Delita or Shadow or something.
