Rewatching DIU as bedtime viewing when I can’t sleep. It’s weird how despite all its violence and murder that it’s very comforting for me.
There’s so many little things I think DIU does really well:
- I love how Josuke and Okuyasu pop up in the background of other characters’ arcs, and how from those appearances and small snippets of dialogue you really get the sense that they’re BFF. I still don’t understand why you have so much focus on Jotaro/Kakyoin as the friendship duo of the series when Josuke and Okuyasu are right there.
- I always forget that it doesn’t have an overarching story in the way that parts 3 and 5 do because a) from the very opening scene (and a few background bits of info here and there) it’s established that there’s something major lurking in Morioh, and nearly all the episodic episodes are valuable character studies that contribute to DIU having the most cohesive cast and giving understanding to how they’d all come together for the end.
- Having:
non-evil and non-combative stand users! I was lamenting to Mori how we hadn’t seen any users like that in JoJo yet when along come Tonio and Shizuka.
And I just love the colour palette, all the world-building, the Morioh-Cho radio segments...
Also The Hand has the coolest sound effect in the entire series.

Okuyasu is the best Jobro it's true. (Bruno and Gyro are more true secondary protagonists than supporting characters.)

What are they gonna localize FF as if they ever get around to adapting part 5
I mean, I guess they'll probably do an official translation of the manga so we'll get that anyway but
IIRC Eyes of Heaven localized it by just going with FF
so my guess is they'll do that for the anime when it happens

The anime often goes with its own thing to best match flaps.
well, I only watch the superior sub, so I wouldn't know
(I actually prefer dubs when I can get them, but I always fall asleep before Toonami airs JoJo's whoops)

I really enjoy the JoJo dubs. The accents can def feel a bit hammy at times (especially in the earlier parts), but I think it fits with how out there JoJo is.
edit: only downside of them to me is all the stand names they change though I assume they do that for copyright reasons.
The Jojo dubs have gotten better as they go along (though I have a soft spot for Part 1's goofy british accents). By Part 4 and 5 they are legit some of my favorite dubs.
I think the dub VA for Dio is fantastic. Everyone is is kind of eh, but Dio's dub voice is very good.
Part 4 dub is pretty good except it has Vic Sexpest as Rohan.

Avdol is actually the character I am most irritated about not getting more play and not only because he's the only major character who's also a person of color until part 6.

like if you really wanted to only watch the "story relevant" episodes you'd skip like a full third of the episodes
and unlike SDC, most of the "fuck around with a weird stand user" episodes are like, good and fun

Kakyoin is hotter.
yeah i don't see okuyasu layin no eggs
Gyro is basically the main character for the series he’s in.
I mean, Koichi is a really reliable guy.
FF is a pretty strong runner up though

I mean the story is ostensibly about Johnny's growth but Gyro plays the most important role in the story it's true.
I really like Hermes but she just doesn't get that much to do

TBH I am not a fan of the JoJo dubs.
He’s also seventeen
The accents in the Parts 1 and 2 are painfully terrible, although I did eventually grow accustomed to them.
Haven’t watched Part 3 dubbed yet. Part 4’s dub is okay, I think.
But the sub is definitely preferable!
young people who look a decade older than they are

Dio has a good voice, I just wish they had either all inned ZA WARUDO with the MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAs.
"What a surprise, that's the distinct tang of a liar."
Generally more memorable than the subtitles. And it compensates for losing amusing Engrish stuff.
you gotta get on that Baki train for the incredibly bad english
