    Re Angelo (P10 don’t read)
Knowing nothing much about DiU I assumed Angelo was the main bad guy

Imagine my surprise when he gets taken out in like the third episode

I think the villain-establishing bit in question here may be
the first Morioh Radio segment in the anime, where you see someone preparing breakfast, via shots of a woman’s hand working a frying pan and such. The radio is playing, the music is happy, and we see a lovely-looking breakfast set on the table.

...and then the music cuts out, we pan back from the breakfast table, and see that we were looking at a severed human hand.

    Edit:

    Wait, I was mistaken.

Still, that is a serious creep-out moment right at the outset.

there is something slightly messy about "spend the first episode establishing a serial killer, beat him like immediately, and then 15 episodes later establish an entirely different serial killer"

but i mean, messy plotting is part and parcel to JJBA

I wonder if the main thing with that is "Hey if you're a flashy idiot you're gonna get caught and beat down." Like Angelo was VERY obvious with his crimes, and Kira wasn't. I wonder if it was supposed to be a contrast of some kind?

I mean, it's more likely it's an Araki Forgot moment.

knowing absolutely nothing about his creative process, i wonder if maybe the original idea was "hey what if i did an arc about chasing a serial killer in a small town"

so he sets all of that up, but then wrote himself into a corner where the serial killer has to confront the heroes early on and he was like "welp"

and then spent the chili pepper arc figuring out the way to do that kind of plotline right

that's raw speculation but it doesn't seem impossible

look, fine, jojo's if you have to kill or harm animals to make villains seem real evil then fine just do it and get it over with

but jesus christ do you have to do horrible things with the bodies of them? or just show it on screen over and over

Well Angelo never got time powers so he can't be the final Jojo boss.

Of note I thought that Red Hot Chili Pepper was gonna be something akin to the final boss and then he just gets taken out unceremoniously.

The Kira shows up and I'm like "Aha, but he doesn't have time powers! Fool me twice, Araki!" and then he gets time powers.

and the funny thing is it is among the best parts

I was wondering what Lucky Land meant in the context of JoJo because I've seen it multiple times, turns out it's Araki's studio name. Also, there are a LOT of easter eggs referring to it that I missed.

I don't like all of his videos, but I'd suggest watching the Mother's Basement breakdown of the JoJo OPs.

There is a ton of little references. Right down to
Having Jojo move his finger a little during the stopped time for a couple of frames to foreshadow the DIO fight.

Yeah, Gold Experience does pretty much whatever the story needs it to

That's why it's my least favorite protagonist stand. It's more fun when there's a simple, well defined power used in clever ways.

They're definitely not endearing me to Abbacchio with his cop backstory

I thought it was gonna be some cool shit like "he was a cop until he realized the system was bullshit and cops were tools of it and now time for crime"

instead he's all "weh people really should respect the police and don't hold them accountable for anything weh"

I put part 5 above 1 and 3, but yeah, Giorno is weak and while King Crimson is rad, The Boss is not.

Bucciarati, Mista, Narancia, and Trish are all great though and the villain of the week structure works a lot better in Part 5 than it does in 3 or 4.

part 3 is so hard for me to rank because the back half is so much better

like if you split it up, season 1 of SDC is at the rock bottom of my list while season 2 goes some where in the middlish

buuuut season 2 also has fuckin' Alessi and Mariah so maybe that's cutting it too much slack

I put part 1 right at the bottom, personally.

Part 5 I'd probably put 2nd last? It's still fine.

I've heard that Part 5 is super popular over seas, though.
