    Ended up getting yanked into some FW drops, this was my best one for the night.

    (yes, my drop deck is under tonnage, but my only two Clan lights are a PIR and an ADR, and the ADR is 5 tons too heavy)

    Favorite part? Running out of ammo on my Linebacker, so trying to grind the (last) red leg off a Bushwhacker instead of just ejecting.

    Eh, I remember my early days of FW. 3 Thunderbolts and a Locust. This was prior to the "light wolfpack" days, or Long Toms spotting blobs. Good times... Good times...

    Got my first Heavy in my BT Extended 3025 CE career, and it's an... Archer!

    Which is sort of unfortunate, really, as none of my MechWarriors have more than 5 Gunnery. The fatigue system in BT XT 3025 CE kind of requires constantly rotating MechWarriors, so I already have 14 of them.

    I got it, but havn;t seen any effects from it. I couldnt find any sort of set up config or anything, so I don't know if it's just the framework but no content. It seems like it would fix some of the dogpiling unfairness that happens on some missions.

    Yeah, an LRM bot pilot needs both Gunnery and Tactics.

    And an Archer doesn't make much sense as anything but an LRM bot. Put SRMs and lasers on it and you have... a slow, chonky Wolverine R. It'd do OK like that, I suppose, but it'd be slow to arrive at the fight and the AI would pick on it because it'd be so easy to hit.

    Sure. But if you are rocking a bunch of mediums it's still going to pack a punch suboptimally configured while you train up your pilots and hunt down some more heavies.

    So... I'm at the Endgame of the HBS Battletech campaign. And am heeding the warning to have two full Lance's knitted out and ready to go just in case.

    So off I go back into the easier contracts with some new hires with the intention of getting their XP up and hopefully snagging some choice parts here and there.

    1) A 3 skull mission is way more difficult now, than when 3 skull missions were the norm. That ain't right.

    2) Some kickstarter backer who got his name in the game (nice of the game to point that out, actually...maybe it would have been nicer if I actually remembered it) was a casualty on his first mission out. Spattered all over the inside of one of my mechs. Took an AC/5++ with him. Jackass.

    You don't actually need two full lances. Very minor spoilers:
    There's two back-to-back missions with no chance to repair or rest, but you only need 3 mechs/pilots for the second. So if you are in the habit of finishing missions with all pilots wounded and all mechs blown to pieces you need 7 of each, but if you are a bit more careful it's enough to have 5-6 (so 1-2 spares past the usual 4).

    I purged all my broken mods and restarted a career with just BT Extended 2035 in simulation difficulty.
    I am the underfunded, underequipped, incompetent pirate company that infests the dark corners of the galaxy.
    I have to go on two skull missions with 3 undergunned lights because my techs are so underpaid that it takes them 40 days to put new paint on and I cant afford to fly out of the system for better contracts.
    I am constantly 5 days away from total bankruptcy.
    My heavy hitter is a Vulcan with a single AC5 and a Medium Laser.

    This is awesome.

    I swear to god I'm not a violent man, which is why I'd just want the guy who is responsible for the escort map with the river they need to cross to come to my place and watch with me as the APCs cross the river and get to the extraction point.

    All 17 turns of it. With me glaring silently at the guy the whole time.

    Yeah, the starting systems for BT3025 CE careers are kind of BS. All of them are 2 skull systems, and some of them are pretty far away from anything much easier.

    I modded the "No Faction" starting system to be Tincalunas, which is a half skull system one jump away from a chain of five or six half skull systems.

    Boreal Vault with Clans defending is the worst map ever for IS to push into. Even back in the heyday of the Thunderbolt MPL builds it was rough. Clanners would sit there with their superior firing range and set up firing lines picking everybody off. So much hate back then towards Clan Tech (and the Clan players always saying that they didn't have it easy). It would take an organized push for the IS to even make it somewhat close, and even then we could get killed.

    So yeah, I hate Boreal Vault forever just because of this. Sad to see that it is still a stupid map that should be deleted or redone.

    Swapped my VGL-2 from 5xUAC/2 to 2xUAC/10 and a MPL.

    It's still very squishy, but man it does a number on people if it doesn't get focused.

    Aw bummer, I was afraid of that. Still, mini UV isn't that bad. I'll have to think of other silly builds to try out.

    I was running 4 lbx 2 and 1 uac 2 on my vapour eagle i think.
    I havent played the game since Russ said mwo is in maintenance mode though so i could be wrong.
    ( and then i refunded my $120 MW5 package lol).

    Hmm, I'll have to see which one I don't use and LBX it up with those build ideas. One of them I know is a 2ERPPC brawler with all the MGs I can put on there that I copied from Baradul.

    I only play MWO on Oosik Night and the occasional weekend when I have a robot urge.

    Boreal has been the worst FW map forever, and might contest worst map in MWO period. The true heyday of Boreal was at release with full IS quirks in effect. You had rapid fire, 2000m range ERPPCs whipping across the map from every hill an Thunderbolt 9S, K2, Awesome or Battlemaster could stand on. I had several drops where Clanners didn't even get the gates down. The Clans at least had to wait for you to get inside the gates before they could really clean up.

    In fact, several IS strats for attacking around that time involved camping the gate hills and picking off Clanners defending before you even opened them up and went inside. Unorganized teams would be on their last mechs before you finally went in for the objectives in the last 5 minutes. The Clanners wanted the gates open so they could even fight back.

    Now that IS quirks are an afterthought and there are plenty of high hardpoint Clan mechs to choose from, things are completely different. It was really fun when each faction had to fight differently from each other, with different strengths. I miss that.

    On Steam Charts, the current 30-day average concurrent user count is sitting at 476. Granted, that's not counting the people playing using PGI's standalone launcher...but when the Steam population can't manage 20 matches, that's kinda grim.

    That's really sad to me, even if it's not unexpected.

    Hopefully MW5 is good and robust enough that we'll be able to do some Oosik Night shenanigans even after MWO hits end of life.

    Also, I'll be curious to see if there's enough playerbase that someone tries to reverse-engineer the server structure to keep a bootleg MWO alive after it goes under. I doubt it'll happen, but the internet is a crazy place.
