Alright, big confession time. Bloodstained looks cool, but I don't know if I want to pick it up, because I have never played SOTN or Rondo, so I'm not sure if Bloodstained will actually be up my alley gameplay-wise.
So, should I take the big chance and pick up Bloodstained, or pick up the Requiem double pack to see if IGA is my jam first?
Echoing what others have said, but have you played Dead Cells, Shovel Knight, or Hollow Knight?
How about Super Metroid on the SNES?
In order, Yes Yes Yes and a very sheepish No.
So basically I'm hearing that Bloodstained is good times and the gameplay should be My Jam.
Did you like those games?
If so, you.will.love.this.

Minor spoiler/ Castlevania reference via one of the NPCs
Did anyone else that the names of the townsfolk you need to avenge for bounties are the names of characters from Castlevania games?
Oh thank goodness they aren't temping me with HARD mode right at the start. "Learn my game first mortal!"
EDIT: Died before getting a chance to save. :rotate: Also this game looks amazing; holy hell. Although, anyone able to get this going in 4K?

I'm having a ton of fun.
Item spoilers:
I found this game's Vorpal Blade. It's not as OP as the one from SoTN and a far cry from the Valmanwe/Crissaegrim, but it's pretty darn handy. That said, I keep finding more stuff, so I switched off from it already.
I acquired the equipment shortcuts, but I'm not quite sure how to set them up.
Enemy spoilers
Someone's cat and someone's terrier are totally enemies.
This game has a sort of Catoblepas, and you can still stand on its back.
Buer returns, but it has physics now! It will bounce off walls, so be careful about where you are when you attack it.
I also found an armor that throws Buermerangs. It's glorious.
Also found the customization system shown off in the launch trailer. It's quite entertaining, but the long hair, the only other I unlocked thus far, could use a bit of a fix for its physics.

The side quest completion chime needs to be quieted down, like a lot. It's so fucking loud.

Hmm, I'm actually stuck. Little help?
I just got the sodium magnesium after beating the two headed dragon/dog boss on the spiral tower. I had Dominica take a picture of me and turned it into Identification and now where do I go? She mentioned that Zan said something about a shard in a laboratory area to help me through narrow passage ways, but I don't think I've found a laboratory area yet. Anyone at this point?
Edit - Someone on the Steam Community helped me out. If anyone gets stuck at the same spot, check in with the librarian.

A few bugs I've encountered today. No big deal in any case, just things I've seen.
- there's a rapier you can craft with an 8-bit coin that has a long reach design-wise, but functionally it's like a dagger
- 3D areas where the camera moves around and you 'change direction' can mess up ability to pick up enemy drops
- killing enemies near the roof can prevent the drop from being picked up
- one of my Shard upgrades changed to requiring Mithril, which I haven't even seen yet, but it was set at requiring 0 mithril? okay

I was like "huh how is the bloodstained thread not popping" but it turns out yall made a fresh one for release/page 100
i got it and it's good
also is it just me or is the Rhava Bural (spelling? the wind sword with no swing animation while running) busted as fuck since its effective dps is like 4x that of any other weapon as long as ur mashin
i traded it in for the sidequest because i was feeling guilty about using it

sometimes when using the right stick aim mechanic you could get stuck in a pose or w/e but getting hit usually fixed it for me
Yeah, that was something. Kicked my ass a few times but managed to do it.
I'm loving this way to much.
I love the soundtrack, too. It's great overall.

The only two bugs I've had so far:
An item bag dropped from an enemy and fell halfway into the floor. Couldn't pick it up.
I was fighting the second boss in the game. He landed a killing blow on me, but I didn't actually die and was able to get one final swing in at him. But the swing went in slow motion and the game treated it as a death, with GAME OVER showing up. It was kind of funny.

i looked it up because i remembered another sword being like that in Castlevania and it turns out the Rhava Bural is basically this game's version of the Crissaegrim from SotN
it's probably not quite as broken but still extremely powerful
I love this game and I’m glad I got it - the aesthetic was a bit of a turn off for me and I’m still not sure I love it in motion. If that’s a sticking point for anyone else, I strongly recommend giving it a go anyway.

Apparently item drops that are stuck in geometry auto-collect after waiting, or when you leave the room. I could swear I've also seen them occasionally just vanish while waiting, but I've definitely seen a lot of them open themselves up and pop the pickup window after waiting.
Very good so far, but I've encountered a lot of minor UI bugs in 1.03 version on GOG; maybe because I'm playing with an Xbox controller? Text clipping off the side of the screen when looking at the map. The journal entries that list combos have Unicode rectangles for some buttons.
There was a missing word in the text in the opening cut-scene. Look at this:

Interesting. I've been playing on Steam with my Xbox controller. I'll see if I can get the same bugs. That scene was not missing any text for me, however.

Found a soft-lock bug sorta.
If you end up in a locked crouch position and then slide out of it into water, you can't do anything aside from move left to right after. The only way to get out of it is to Suspend save (it'll put you back to when you entered the room), or get hit by an enemy (unconfirmed).

Oh yeah, I forgot. I also occasionally get the missing word bug. At least I can still hear the dialogue.

Never played a Castlevania game before, but boy is this something else. The platforming just works, the boss fights are fair (at least on Normal), the level design keeps asking you to push forward, the music is great, the story is pure last century Japanese fare (and don't get me started on the crafting loop or hunting down monsters for side quests or filling out the map so you know, absolutely that you didn't miss anything).
. . .and oh boy I just got to the library. How many gameplay elements can this game toss on!

I just found my first major secret, I'm so excited!
Oh also I might've found a speed strat but I dunno if it's even usable necessarily. Every area I've tried using it in, it's redundant so far.

But...OK so I kickstarted an extra digital copy for the Switch. That's coming out on Tuesday.
I'm not sure if I should play through it on Steam and then again on Switch. I kind of feel like I'd prefer to play this on Switch...
CONFLICT
Wait for the Switch version.
Please tell me you can get that as a weapon.
I had serious doubts that this game would ever be released.
I am hyped to get this on my Switch and I'm loving all these good reviews I'm seeing

Like the tweet suggest, yes, I LOVE that death cry and it is 100% along the lines of what I thought when I heard it. "OOOOOOHHH THIS IS A BAD DAY"
I was telling my wife about this death cry not 5 minutes ago because it makes me laugh every time and I love it.
Yeah, it kind of reminded me of Alastor from Symphony of the Night who gives off this "OOoOOoOOoOOOooo" when you dispatch him.
