I did not realize that SotN on the PSP was so blurry. I heard that you can fix that in an emulator.
But, if you use an emulator, you might as well play the Playstation version.
...or the Sega Saturn one for some extra content.

Yeah, Bloodlines is the Genesis/Mega Drive one. It's mean because you get a password every time you beat a level, but that password saves your lives and number of continues left. I never did beat the game on expert mode, which I believe hides an extra boss or the true ending or both.
Really, I am thinking the Saturn version is the best version due to the extra content. It has a couple of weird extra areas.
There is an English fan patch for it. Of course, it is an expensive collector's item now.
It doesn't perform as smoothly as the other versions, though.
I'll almost always take performance over extra content. The actual quality of extra content is very hit or miss, and it's just not worth making the other 90+% of the game run worse.

From what I understand the extra content from the Saturn version wasn't particularly well-received, which may explain why it's never resurfaced. (Also the nightmare of Saturn emulation.)

Yeah, I played the Saturn version relatively recently and those two extra areas aren't terribly interesting.
being able to rewind at any time, a feature in the advance collection at least, definitely helps with classic castlevanias. Forgot to mention that.
Sidenote: the more of these collections, emulators, etc use rewind as a feature, the more I realize that Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was really just providing a limited way to fix the sometimes janky and unforgiving controls for that game.
I've had fun with the Advance Collection on the Switch thus far, but I think I'm done with Circle of the Moon. I'm not sure if it's the need to farm or nothing really being well explained or the general difficulty but it's grating on me.

You can get SOTN (with new, shitty lines) on the various mobile play stores for your smart phone.
Yeah, I was playing it on android waiting for planes last weekend. After I figured out the display rate thing for my phone screen, it runs perfectly, and is, outside of some changed dialogue, exactly the same as any other version. Of course I have a controller for my phone, I can't imagine trying to play it (or anything really) with touchscreen controls, but maybe people who are more accustomed to those could do it fine?
I wish we would get a full on complete remaster of the game, with some higher quality (not just blurred or AI upscaled) visuals, and full widescreen support, but given how little the collections changed/fixed anything, I don't expect we ever will.
It seems like the effects and fonts are better in the PlayStation version of SotN than the Saturn version. I notice the intro video even looks better.
So, it is really more of an upgrade. I assume the PS4 version tweaks things up even more.
An advantage of the Saturn is that it can have more layers on parallax scrolling.
A layer was lost on the Silhouette Mirage port. Still, that port added a whole bunch of other stuff.
I have actually come to like the PlayStation version Silhouette Mirage.

Well it's more that Iga and maybe some of his team disliked it. He did get Maria playable in the PSP version like the Saturn, but she plays completely different, more focused on animal summoning like her younger self from Rondo.

The Saturn version became more like a prototype version. It would be a neat thing to collect.
There is an English patch for it. It edits some portraits in the game, which is a little annoying. They were trying to make it line up with RoB.
Also, the patch only works on a certain version of the game. I assume it is the latest one.

Also, he had no idea Alucard was the main character in Symphony. He thought Richter was the main character, and I was like, uhhh, kind of....
I let him hear some of the "classic" VA from Symphony and he said it wasn't bad at all, so you know he has good taste. He said he hopes he gets to reprise the role, but I can't imagine him not.

Alucard is obviously perfect for playing an ageless returning ally in the Belmont war against evil. I would particularly enjoy if he makes it a hobby to always take jabs at Trevor to his descendants, laughing at their horror when they find out Trevor was a boorish drunk when Alucard met him, but also annoyed that every single Belmont has been taught to give him shit about being stuck-up nobility.

SIMON: Juste, sit down. You're old enough to hear this now.
JUSTE: Dad, I already know how sex works.
SIMON: No, it's time you learned the truth about Alucard.
Got a copy of Castlevania Advance Collection during the Steam sale. Never played through Circle of the Moon, never beat Harmony of Dissonance, and I didn't play Aria but I did play Dawn on the DS.
I have to remember that these were GBA games and thus maybe aren't as feature complete as later games in the series.
So, I was looking for the new TMNT: Cowabunga Collection videos earlier, and came by this on Konami's YouTube channel. Didn't see anything about it here (sorry if I missed it when I skimmed back to May), so...
Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls - The story of the Grimoire comes to an end!
The truth of Death's plan and the incident is finally revealed. And the heroes are cornered. A new fellow brings courage and hope, as the battle enters its final phase in the "place of beginnings."
Who will win, humans or vampires? The story of the grimoire comes to an end!
This major update brings new boss battles, characters to Alter Arts, and new features for players to master!
I'm interested in this, but I don't know if I'm interested enough to try to play on my phone. I wonder if there's any good playthroughs on YouTube that show the main points/story beats/fun stuff...

Decided to start a hard mode run of Bloodstained tonight. Craftwork is certainly cheap fucking garbage boss design on hard mode. Zero chance I'm playing this on nightmare.
Inti Creates are making a brand new Castlevania-inspired game.... starring two of the ladies from the Gal Gun series. You know, that game where you shoot Japanese schoolgirls with a pheromone gun to make them swoon? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBHPxC3m_A0
Thankfully, this looks like a proper Metroidvania, with some well designed sprites and a lot of inspiration from Portrait of Ruin. I'm certainly interested.

I forgot about it.
The PSP version of Symphony at least is a bonified port, it's not any kind of PS1 emulation, even though the PSP was pretty good at that.

You notice they made the characters more rugged in the Netflix show.
