Finally was in a poor enough spot that I use Patroclus to restore ALL my death defiance uses. Really saved my ass this run even if I doubt i'll beat the final boss. Speaking of bosses:
    Secret Boss:
The record scratch still kills me every time.

Edit: I actually won? For my second time. Does extreme measures only trigger if you've beaten that boss with that weapon before or something?

Extreme Measures should be in effect whether you've cleared it with that weapon or not

Are you talking about secret or final boss?
Charon doesn't have an Extreme Measures form. Hades does but you have to unlock the highest level of EM to get it

Yeah I meant Hades. I’d spoiled myself and read that he has a third health bar and was waiting for him to get back up again and pound me into the ground and instead he just died.

And then I choked catching a fish on the surface.

Extreme Measures is a Pact of Punishment term you have to enable.

There will be absolutely no question when it's enabled for a boss.

Just got my third win using the hidden rail aspect and it was easily the most confident one I've had, only burned one defiance on the last fight.
    nSVeIU1h.png
    (click for fullsize)
Just, damage everywhere. The triple beam combined with hangover could melt things by itself but then I got triple bomb and blade rift on dash as well as festive fog to be able to drop an AOE to trigger the bombs. As well as Demeter's call for another giant AOE I can drop. Oh and support fire for funsies. I'm super glad I got ice wine right at the end in Styx because between the slow I had on hangover and fog and special inflicting chill Hades did a LOT of standing still.

Note that each rank of Extreme Measures affects one boss. If you want EM on for boss 4, you have to have four ranks in EM.

I said it earlier in the thread but I got to that fight with the spear variation that cuts your health, no death defiances, a crappy call, and 12 health.
Hades just waived me through so I got credit for clearing with that weapon.

After 130 runs I finally got the last duo pairing I was missing: Poseidon/Demeter. It also turns out to be pretty much the most broken duo and resulted in me two-shotting Hades' second form with casts. Just absolutely insane if he locks himself into an animation.

Hey, that's the one I'm gunning for right now! This is the Poseidon cast + Demeter strike/special requirements, right?

On my current run (which I expect to get it on unless I get unlucky), I also got an epic Poseidon strike on Adamant Rail (Igneus Eden aspect), and it's actually quite fun. Your laser is now a super soaker that sends anything flying, nothing can get anywhere near you with this thing.

Yeah it's tricky to experiment sometimes because the god-specific trinkets don't guarantee a "run" of that god. Sometimes you take Artemis starter and your next boon and every boon after that is Aphrodite and you just accept that this run is an Aphrodite run.

I've mostly just been focusing on unlocking and trying out all the weapons for now (only been up to Elysium) but this particular run feels like I stumbled onto some nonsense.

Stygian Sword with aphro boon on attack + cast, Athena dash + god call, and some truly disgusting passives: +3 dash charges, 2 different god guage speed up passives, and, most importantly, the -60% max HP but your normal attacks heal 3HP passive.

Don't think I've managed to finish a chamber below full HP yet?

Update: This completely steamrolled everything and got me to the Hades fight.
99% sure I would have cleared it if my dumbass hadn't decided to do "one more path" for an HP upgrade that I didn't even need instead of just advancing past Cerberus. I figured hey, why not, I breezed through everything else in Styx just fine. Immediately fuck up super hard and lose two death defiance to poison spam/being stupid. Made it through the rest of the chamber and healed up to full, but wasn't able to kill Hades with just the one life (kept mistiming dashes through the ring laser things).

It took me like 30ish runs to finally beat it and another 15 before I could reliably replicate the win (the 3rd and 4th bosses are motherfuckers). Keep at it! Getting more darkness and leveling up your keepsakes helps a ton too.

Right now I am slowly raising Heat with my favorite weapon (bow) and fine-tuning strategy. It's still not clear to me if runs do have "themes" -- somehow predetermined sets of 2-3 gods that will dominate that run -- or not. It's hard to tell whether I'm seeing real patterns or just interpreting the RNG.

My current theory is that runs DO have seeds that favor a few gods that run, and aren't changed by picking a boon keepsake. By this theory boon keepsakes are not good investments because they don't tell you what build will be easy that run -- better to pick the gold or pom keepsake and find out from RNG what the first boon you get is, and build around that.

I also think purging boons, which I haven't done but would like to start experimenting with, could be a powerful way to supercharge the pom keepsake. Selling everything except a few core boons would also make Euridyce's room more predictable. (No real strategy here yet just thinking out loud.)

Runs start with a base set of four gods, not counting Hermes. You can use keepsakes to force one additional god into the pool per biome.

Ah this is great info, and tracks with my experience. I couldn't find anything like that on the wiki.

Do you know if you skip a Hammer (you pick a Chaos gate instead for example), are you guaranteed or at least likely to get another? For example, if you skip Hammers in first two biomes can you pick them up in Elysium and Styx?

Does purging a boon make getting boons from that god any more or less likely, or is that irrelevant? Also - does purging a specific boon remove it from the loot table or could you then get that boon offered again in a future room?

On Hammers, my experience has been if you skip it in Tartarus, Elysium will have two Hammers you can get, though I think there's a chance for a Hammer in Styx if you haven't gotten a second one yet as well. I can't remember for sure.

I think peoples time to clear is really based around the time it takes them to get comfortable with, and prolifically spam, the dodge mechanic. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if ph blake's fist clear had a lot to do with "oh shit, I'm all melee now, I should be dashing a lot" and that conclusion is pretty true no matter the build.

Yeah. I locked in on dodge spam almost immediately because I play a lot dodge spam action games and cleared in 17 runs. I don’t think there’s anything more important in terms of mastery of action mechanics.

Mine was mostly getting used to the patterns, learning what not to hit (fuck the skulls, I'll just run to the other side of the arena and dodge through the ring lasers), and just generally playing super safe.

The build certainly helped; in retrospect it was kind of disgusting. Had Artemis special with a special% chaos boon buffing it, plus explosive launcher, plus a ton of crit rate and damage passives, plus on demand privileged status (hangover attack and weakness dash), plus the epic tier Hermes extra dash charges. Was super easy to just kite bosses around, then dash through them + attack once before unloading crit dash specials until I had to get out again.

Broke my clearing streak of 8 last night by being too dang casual on the Hades fight. It wasn't an especially inspiring sword run, but goddam that was annoying. Followed it with a secret fists run that was just balls to the wall insane. Incredibly fast, glass-bazooka, died 7 times or something thanks to that legendary chaos boon, skellys trinket and then Patroclus renewing them all. Had those boons that up your damage after using deaths defiance and when below 30% health. Killed dad with 10 health remaning on my last life.

I've reached the point where I need to focus on one or two weapons to push into the higher heats, but I've still got 2 secret aspects to unlock and loads of the quests which don't seem to be going anywhere. Both Nyx and Dusa seem to want me to spend darkness/gems with house contractor but I'm at a loss to see what they want me to spend it on. Add into this the various reunite quests...

Is it a case of just doing runs until something changes or would I be best looking up how to activate these events? I don't want to get bored before seeing some of these reach their conclusion.

  • Options
    AbsurdPropositionAbsurdProposition Registered User regular
For some reason the Nyx purchase doesn't show up until the next time you die. It costs a little over 3200 darkness so you'll need to be saving for awhile for it. I'm not sure which purchases are specifically tied to the Dusa quest; I ended up buying almost everything for the lounge in a couple shopping sprees which wrapped up the quest.

If it's been a couple runs and nothing has moved forward it might be worth looking up specifics, but in my experience every run before the epilogue advanced something a little bit, even if it was just handing out some nectar to Gods.
