Watch Dogs Legion is, on its own, fun. It had a typical ubisoft game launch, but once it hit its stride it was neat.
Watch Dogs Legion, when placed into the framework of a franchise that previously had specific protagonists, etc... is not as likeable to people. For people who need that, there's a DLC (was dated July 6) that coming allows you to do original game's story as Aiden Pierce, along with the DLC with him and Wrench.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
It was not well received, no. They looked at everything people liked about WD2 and went "ok but what if we didn't do that at all?"
For me they overscoped all of the personality out of it trying to chase that "you can be anyone!" nonsense. The voice lines are all robotic and talking around each other to try and fit that recruitable player character shtick into the cutscenes and nobody was likeable compared to the very deliberately designed cast of 2 which I loved. By the end of it I was even fond of Wrench who at first I thought was just going to be one dimensional edgy hackerboi.
There's a bit of Watch Dogs: Legion where you just wonder along London streets just scoping out random people for someone to recruit to your team that really cool. Unfortunately, the game designed around is terrified of people interacting. From it's narrative to it's mechanics, Watch Dogs: Legion's number one design is "Cowardice".

With his iconic baseball cap?!
Yes. It's very likely when the DLC is initially released his cap will be the only thing you will be able to see of him.

GBX with the “how to suck all the energy out of your E3 show 101.” Why would you start with a behind the scenes on the movie nobody cares about instead of like…games? And why is this so long?
idk the snark over this Gearbox thing is a little much. Yeah of course they want to promote their movie and who's in it, and of course they hammer home the cast of their new game

I would consider the first day of E3 official a bust but I cannot wait for the new Mario + Rabbids game. I guess I will consider the first day of success due to that release alone.
I watched the Devolver Digital stream. Not really anything that overly interests me. Their brand of humor I still do not find funny. I'm glad many others like them but I am way over their schtick.
Most of Ubisoft wasn't anything I'd be interested in. I didn't like the first Avatar movie and the new game just doesn't look great.
Gearbox was boring an awful all around.
But the day was saved because super lazy Rabbid Rosalina is a thing. 🤣
Tomorrow should be good. I don't own an Xbox because I am to invested in Sony's ecosystem and cannot justify the time to own three consoles. But their conference should be good as they are primed to show some good stuff I think.
I actually found this year’s Devolver presentation to be funny. Usually I think they’re just dumb, with lots of yelling and blood to distract people from just how dumb it all is, but this year’s was solid.
Outside of Mario + Rabbids Ubisoft has nothing for me. I’ve never been into Far Cry, Watch Dogs Legion just looks terrible IMO, and I stopped caring about Assassin’s Creed with the pirate one (which I never bothered completing - I’m one of the few people who really disliked what I experienced with it).
My most anticipated game so far is Sable. I love the look of it. I hope the gameplay can measure up.

The ESA is sending out warning emails saying that you shouldn’t co-stream E3 this year If you weren’t officially selected in the “E3 co-streaming program”, or you’re putting yourself at risk of breaking TOS and getting DMCA’d.
If you weren't explicitly selected for the “E3 co-streaming program” and you re-stream E3, they may consider it a TOS violation.

It wouldn't be the first time people are striked for trailers (especially trailers using audio that can be striked on its own) and won't be the last.

Yeah. Also for context, this is the email from the tweet:
"They" is not E3. They is, more than likely the automated monitoring, and "They" would also very likely be the companies that use takedown methods if their trailers/content is used while talking about them in a negative light.

Then I realized it’s by the same company that did Titan Souls, so that may have unsold me. Ooorrrr made me want to give Titan Souls another try. Probably that one, since I can’t really remember why I bounced off anyway.
Did Watch Dogs Legion have a thing with women trafficking? The was some game where you take down a trafficking ring.
First game did.
Yup. It was... Not great.
Watch Dogs 1 was set in near future Chicago and stars the laughably edgy and tortured Aiden Pierce whose voice is so gravelly he must smoke like 12 packs a day. Everything is so over-the-top dark and gritty, including the human trafficking part. The abilities and gameplay were okay, but the story and characters were yikes.
Watch Dogs 2 takes place in near future San Francisco and is actually pretty great. It takes place some time after 1 (feels like a few months to a couple of years). Rather than playing some kind of gruff cyber vigilante who should've had his own 90's Image comic, you play as a young hacker who joins a cell of other hackers, each with a distinctive personality and some great banter. It's obvious that they at least talked to people who are in the hacking community because of the overall vibe and feel. When it is over-the-top, it's usually in a fun (if dumb) 80's or 90's action movie kind of way. If you're going to try a Watch Dogs game play this one first. It's the best one, and is one of my favorite games of the previous generation.
I can't talk much about Watch Dogs Legion as I've never played it, but it looks like a mess. Near future London looks too futuristic. Especially in the new DLC they just unveiled. Those robots are just too advanced for what should be maybe 10-15 years ahead of where we are now. The overall vibe seems way too heavy handed, like it's straight out of V for Vendetta, which kinda negates one of the main reasons why CityOS is so insidious. One of the underpinnings of the series is that society is ultimately selling their privacy and personal security for convenience and comfort. Having jackbooted armored thugs everywhere misses the point.
AFAIK there's no real player character. You recruit random NPCs. That invariably leads to repeated, stilted dialogue, and a lack of attachment to anyone. If everyone is just a cog for this resistance movement machine, why should we care about any of them? And doesn't that make us pretty similar to the corporate baddies we've been fighting for a couple games?
Maybe it's not as bad as all that, but from the outside it looks like they intentionally pivoted from what made 2 so good in order to double down on all the bad things from 1, while also adding a bunch of other things that feel like they miss the point completely.

Human trafficking and similar things are a "staple" of the series. While Legion doesn't have women specifically, and it's a little more subtle* than WD1, human trade in whole or parts is still a thing.
though, I guess (real spoiler)
since you can kill a dog whose consciousness is transferred into an, technically immortal robot body.
it could be considered worse for some.
That said, the core structure of Watch Dog: Legion's gameplay requires you to either make that connection naturally or by choice. They're not just random cogs for the machine unless you think of and engage the game like that. IDK/
edit: *subtle isn't the right word, it's just less "sex trafficky" and more general crimes against humanity human trafficky, which is actually worse but somehow more palatable to people.

The most hilarious part of that "no co-streaming" thing is that E3 doesn't own any part of any of these streams
In fact pretty much every one of the presenters has come out specifically and allowed co-streaming, many of them pointing out that they've tried to ensure that the music played during the stream would not cause any issues
More and more it just feels like the ESA showed up and started acting like they were in charge, without actually doing anything or being involved with any of it

Kind of. On the other hand, while Blacklist was a damn good game, no Michael Ironside took away a lot from the experience for me

Michael Ironside was undergoing treatment for cancer at the time. He's in remission, so in theory they can bring him back for future titles.
Oh wow I did not know that, glad he's doing better

Now especially prescient given Gearbox just announced a backport of Godfall is coming to PlayStation 4 now lol
Now no one can play it on TWO platforms!
Yeah I thought it was supposed to come to xbox platforms in may but I guess they forgot as did everyone who played godfall.
