So assuming I am not going to be going for ranking, what exactly do I need to be ready for CT? Earlier it was mentioned I should get a rifle team set up, or something?

  • chocoboliciouschocobolicious Registered User regular
Night capable ARSMG, a rifle echelon for armored, a second less buff arsmg for a couple maps. A hg dummy squad. Also a typhoon echelon. Contender Gunboat is the best bet, but if you don't have her you can make a M4 team with MG/HG members. There are other ways to deal with a typhon but eh.

    Also your Hoc of choice.

Unless the devs decide to change story map difficulty, which I don't think they've done. All the curveballs on unit comps have been for ranking. A 1* lvl 1 BGM was adequate when this was released on old servers. Also worth keeping in mind that old servers had HoCs released the same time they got CT and that HoCs once were garbage tier, as in a full HG echelon had more dps than a fully geared and leveled HoC. Plus, I gather if your echelons were good enough, you could power through without using HoCs. EN gets the benefit of getting HoCs after they were made to not be garbage and a month to raise them. So as chocobolicious stated, an HoC of your choice if raise it because the few spots that needed are probably still coded with the idea of them still being trash tier and most players only have them at lvl 1.

As for ranking though, really can't go wrong with raising AGS. She lets you save AP and is an all rounder. So if we end up wanting stuff to break shields because Mica buffs shields on the ranking map, you'll want AGS over 2B since the latter is the weakest at breaking shields. If shields are at the same power that old servers had them at, 2B might be enough to pop shields with little effort. At which point, you'll want both AGS and 2B for the AoEs. I'm thinking AGS and 2B are the best bets because I don't think Mica has messed with the HP or shield power of stuff when they release on EN. IIRC all the curve balls have been changes that make certain things more relevant. Singularity didn't change things up because they adjust HP or armor on anything, it got changed up because KCCO spawned more often. it was either DD or Cubed+ that was changed up because it ran with a new scoring system. It's possible that Mica might adjust things to account for the improved HoCs, but that seems unlikely; especially, after they admitted they've been tuning story stuff a bit too hard to be casual friendly in story mode. That makes me think they might be more inclined to leave well enough alone; especially, with how spaghetti like their code has been.

General recommendation is 2 ARSMG teams, a rifle team, and an MG/SG team. The second ARSMG team is likely the lowest priority if you are in a pinch. You will need night vision gear for your AR's.

The "gunboat" team choco mentioned isn't necessary. It's just convenient. The difference between treating typhoons as an unkillable obstacle that you spend some time kiting around the map, and just killing them.

The website "Girls Frontline corner" is compiling a more in depth preparation guide. Check that out since it's more than I can type here.

I think that the preferred ARs to use in your flagship AR team may be star, M4, and sopmod. But that would be with their digimind upgrades and their special equipment bells and whistles which is a hefty investment that you might not be in position to make right now. I also think that m16, with her speq, is supposed to be the ideal tank for one of the mobs that we face off against.

Also, if you can make it to the ranking map then you may very well be ready for ranking. Partaking at all will give you a participation prize of gems and resources. The most important prize is available for the top 50%,which may be within reach if you read up on the best strategies for the map and watch some streams of people running the map so that you don't reinvent to wheel. It won't be a cakewalk for your first event, but the prize may be within reach.

Going to trot out G36 as yet again a spectacular independent investment. Star is great but needs M4 and her unique anmo for Max Hax. G36 just does her own thing and ups the survivability of the evade tanks on her tiles noticeably.

I love my G36 mod, but the tiles requiring dolls on 'em for maximum effectiveness is annoying.

The 50% prize is a special equipment for a doll. For CT it's an upgrade for G41.

So far for every event, I've heard stories of brand new players starting within the event and climbing enough to hit top 50%. There are a lot of new or casual players who are in a similar position to you in terms of preparedness. Some players really don't want to partake in the maps and simply start the map and immediately forfeit in order to claim their participation rewards. With all of that combined, IMO it isn't unreasonable to say that top 50% may be within your reach if you work for it.

That said, 50% don't get the speq and I feel for them. I wish that there was some alternative way to get the ranking speqs for dolls after some period of exclusivity. There was some talk about them showing up in the black market, but that talk may have been a rumor/misunderstanding since other speqs that weren't ranking rewards have shown up in the black market. I never tracked down an official source, so that talk is hearsay to me.

I get that, but if you're at the point that you're moving units you're either doing too much or shouldn't be using an ARSMG echelon for what you're doing. Least I've never felt compelled to bother, ARSMG echelons are just there to chew through stuff.

ARSMG teams are generally the ones sent up against bosses since they have enough mobility to dodge around area attacks. Basically every story event has had bosses that have hit the field with AOE attacks for us to evade. Ouroboros, Gager, Architect, Gaia, and M16 all come to mind. Dreamer too.

Some basic enemies throw out similar hazards. SF mortar teams have been a thorn against our DPS backlines, especially when embedded smack dab in the middle of a hefty blob of forces such as the squads that spawned during the final few turns of Deep Dive ranking. CT will introduce Rodeleros that will act like little swarms of mini dreamers.

Bosses you can generally just bamboo with half the effort. I think that last event with Architect she just died in three hits. Why move when it's all over in under 30s.

I'm not going to say using arsmg for stuff like bosses is wrong, but they aren't really a boss busting sort of thing. Hell a gunboat would probably kill most bosses faster.

ARSMG is a general tool, so using it for everything will make some things seem way more complex than they really are. I dunno. I guess I bought 10 echelon slots for a reason. I like to have a good tool for the occasion.

I mean, you're wrong, but also if that's the point why would you ever need to move units?

Which is the original point of this exchange.

Either you can tank and spank forever (Try that on a typhon) or you work too hard to make a general tool do the same thing a specialist echelon can do effortlessly.

So yeah, I guess you do have some things to explain. Try to break it down for little ol me, I'm only a 15%er after all. I'm not very good at this game.

So I have a couple RFHG echelons in the works.

The first one is an ROF-based one with Wa2000 and M14 (Mod 2 so far). Their handguns are welrod, calico, and grizzly. Is there a better combination of HGs for them?

The other one I'll need to level up, but I want it to be a slower, harder-hitting one. I managed to get Lee Enfield recently but it will be a while before I can level her up. I also have SRS, M200, T5000, all sorts of Rifles, honestly. M200 and T5k are the most developed at the moment, but IIRC she's not exactly a slow/hard-hitting type of Rifle. She's closer to M14/Wa2k. Any recommendations there? I guess bamboo is an option.

I mean, you're both right. A well managed arsmg can handle bosses fairly well if built correctly, and a specialist bamboo squad can laugh at most bosses. But most early players shouldn't be building bamboo squads, so an ARSMG dodge game is going to more available.

Also think it's going to come down to goals, on top of what you have. Bamboo echelon isn't exactly a high priority. Boss killing MGSG and gun boats are a huge investment. I'd say both are also big gambles if you have a boss that has an open AoE because rifles, machineguns and shotguns are all slow and likely to fail their evasion check. Anyways if your just interested in doing well enough for the fairy and have the stuff to do well with a bamboo, it's probably not a bad option. If you're going for high ranking, bamboo and machinegun teams for bosses probably isn't the most optimal choice since you're likely to pay for that by having to retreat and repair much sooner after the boss than an ARSMG or depending on how things line up, that could be the difference between having enough fairy commands for another attempt or not.

M14 is a FP RF, not a ROF RF. Should pair it with your Lee-Enfield.

Furthermore, since they buff their own FP, they should be paired with HGs that buffs rate of fire, like Calico.

Wa2k is usually paired with SVD, since they both self buff RoF. They get paired with HGs that buff FP, like Grizzly.

Glad they fixed the mouse pack, was able to get both dorm sets done and lucked into the M90 costume. Not sure I'm really into the bike shop one but it has some good pieces. The 5* set gets the Christmas dinergate bouncing around so that's going to stick around in a dorm somewhere.

I'm glad the gacha is only cosmetic, but I still wish there was just a normal furniture shop too.

Unit wise: data samples have been oddly kind. All 3 hoc are up to 70% so hopefully I'll be able to upgrade them soon. That'd be cool. Finished Skilling up an air strike fairy because why not.

Also plugging Jill into random echelons. I feel like she's probably more valuable than I have her credit for originally. Undecided if she'd be best for a Jupiter squad or just a HG squad. About to finish getting m1911 to mod3 so I kind of want to put her somewhere and 'in a HG team' seems the easiest. Really wish I felt like oathing her or M14 to make the grind go by quicker/cheaper tho. 1607 combat reports just to go from 110 to 115 kills me.

A normal furniture shop would make the furniture related quests for the keycards less awful, assuming one could buy four star furniture. Trade off could be that either said stuff isn't part of a set with bonuses or they slowly rotate through stuff. For example, each month they throw up one random pieces from two different 5* sets, two random pieces from two different 4* sets and 3 random pieces from three different 3* sets. So for people wanting to get stuff, the current non-banner will always be the best, while radiant would probably still be the better option crap option for filling out old sets.

Hell, would be nice if there were like some lucky furniture drops from some maps.

It would be nice to not gamble for the furniture, but until something drastic happens to the market, I'm not holding my breath there. If something does happen, it will probably be the EU laying some major smack downs on gacha and lootboxes setups and doing it in such a way that game companies either end up redoing their games so that their product in all markets would be compliant with EU stuff or in a way where some other governments are forced to follow suit because they look like absolute shit if they don't.

  • chocoboliciouschocobolicious Registered User regular
Most companies just seem to be pulling out because the EU is such a tiny market.

So it'll basically have to be the second one. Losing the EU isn't really losing enough money to offset the change.

I'd have to see a break down, but for the EN (aka global), you'd probably need to US to crack down on some of the stuff and fuck if I know when we hit the breaking point on that. It's more than just needing it gain traction, but to do so in a way that the most pro-business party can't handwave it away.

Anyways, got more of the story stuff I've been putting off out of the way. Got 7N and 10 done. So I just need to get 10 E stuff done and I'll be current until 8N gets dropped. I'm not really looking forward 8N because I've noticed night maps softlock a fuck ton and it's always on the enemies turn. I don't think this is a bug unique to bluestacks, I've seen that others run into and it tends to be worse on the maps that usually don't get farmed. So not looking forward to all the softlock bullshit that I'll run into with 8N. Also gear shuffling continues to be really annoying and tedious. Finally, ch 10-6 really makes me dislike when Mica tries to be clever, "you have to hit the terminate mission button in order to actually end the mission, isn't that clever?" No, it's not and it's complete unintuitive with no hints that the player should do so. There are a few others spots, where I think they are making an attempt to be clever and it really falls short because whoever was in charge didn't bother to see how players might interpret the info they have available. GFL has kind of been a good exercise in "this is why games companies should hire a psychologist because the devs get funny ideas and think something would work great, but it's actually a terrible idea." So a psychologist could run them through why some of their clever ideas are actually not sound and even help hem salvage some that could work really well if they had the right tweaks.

Anyways gave arknights a try and well, I like the art and the story seems interesting, but it just isn't clicking for me, which is a shame because it does look really interesting. Not sure how much of that is my subconscious telling me don't bother investing time in this because you'll just get annoyed when you miss a unit because you want to run this as a casual thing on the side of GFL and you'll apparently never see that unit again. I do like have games like GFL let me satiate the collectors itch in a way that doesn't cost tons of money and use up valuable space around the home.

Arknights has had a couple event characters that were easy to get and just recently had their first limited character after 8 or whatever months. Which saw some pretty harsh criticism on bilibili and such so I'm not sure how likely they are to do it again.

Honestly what keeps me playing GFL over other gachas is that it's a slow burn that can keep my attention over time without burning me out. It is realistic to build up a sizeable collection of dolls over time without whaling, although the shotguns and some of the rarer 5*'s may be elusive for awhile. The daily challenges for events don't take up too much time. Grinding limited dolls is a pain, but it's not too bad since they have a track record of returning for additional attempts if you miss out. In other gachas the limited units likely require premium currency to roll for and may be gone forever or for the very least a very long time if you fail to roll them. The big story events also last about a month, so you can chip away at completing the story and chasing the limited dolls over time. 100-200 rolls to get the limited dolls is a pain, but less so when it's five to ten runs a night over a month.

The only other two gachas that I've played are Fire Emblem Heroes and Dragalia Lost. I enjoyed both, but FEH started throwing too much at me and I wasn't able to keep up. It started having a bit of a powercreep problem too IMO and I felt like I couldn't keep pace with my own units without either whaling or by completely forgoing rolling a variety of units in order to focus all of my efforts on upgrading a small handful of units. Dragalia was also fun, but they had so many events and it took at LOT of time to grab all of the loot from the events. I kinda like binging on events to get the loot, but not that frequently.

I still have them both installed, and I'll likely boot them up again eventually to catch up on story content. I can see some people making complaints that GFL doesn't have enough gameplay or that it has content droughts, but honestly the content pacing has been pretty comfy for me. Continuum Turbulence is kinda hot on the heels of Singularity, but aside from that things have been pretty mellow. That's kind of what I want out of a phone game. Something that I occasionally play really seriously during an event, but just casually burning some spare time in between. I do welcome the prospect of more of those mini-story events like the Halloween and Christmas events since those are more interesting than bingos or boss hunt events.

Still enjoying GFL, it's just I've that point where most of my non-event stuff is 0-2 grindings, so trying to find something to break up the monotony of that, that also isn't a massive time sink. Something I can spend less than 30 or so minutes a day on if I want to stay current, but won't brutally punish me if I decide to take it easy.

I've taken it a bit easy with GFL for the last few and I'm pleases that the game doesn't really punish for that, if all you do is the dailies. The logistics is setup right, where if you not doing the short term stuff, it only really hurts you if you want to go beyond the crafting for dailies. If you stick with crafting enough to hit dailies quotas, you can still generate a surplus. I have to say it's very nice compared to some of the MMOs I've played, where you pretty much get reamed if you aren't spending 2+ hours on the game (I'm particularly looking at WoW, which as moved into that direction).

I think Arknights might be clicking, it has been a decent change of pace when I want to move to something a little more engaging that 0-2 grinding. Also not optimistic that once I get around to finishing up the four emergency 10 chapters, that 10-4E will be any more engaging on farm.

On that note, really hoping that this will be the last bingo event. I'm so sick and tired of logging on and with the exception of like 2 days, getting the god awful quest that asks you to sack 4* furniture. I kind of need that stuff to maintain my current comfort levels because I need all the batteries for stuff. Also a bit grating when one is at 50ish percent clear for the board and you either only get one new number or get nothing. I'll take the mini-event because they are fun, quick and usually don't leave you in a spot where you have to forgo a reward because it's not feasible to whale to get a keycard that might just be a bloody dupe number.

Just got M16's speq, so just have to calibrate it and fully deck it out. Thankfully, don't have to deal with 6-4N, which apparently is just as buggy as other night maps. Where the game will softlock during the enemies turn and I want to say it happens anytime the enemy moves to engage one of your echelons. I have noticed that between nodes, even ones you have vision on, there is no vision throughout the whole line. I strongly suspect the issue here is that someone screwed up with code, so the unit moves through a part of the map you don't have vision on. Then the code borks once the enemy echelon hits you unit because part of it, which is correct, says you have vision, while another part says "fuck off, you don't and the game softlocks." I could be wrong, but given that throwing a handgun onto echelons makes this bullshit show up less because it's worse when you run an ARSMG with no handgun.

I just need star's SPEQ which isn't convienty to farm because there is only like two armor units, they are tuck ay in the back of the map, it's a long map, needs at least three echelons and can't be run cheaply on auto. I should also consider getting UMP9 and UMP45 there exo SPEQ since even though it's a wash on pure defensive stats, it's still a damage boost in that they trade the damage penalty for crit IIRC. So right off the bat, each shot is doing more damage and then has a higher chance of critting. It's going to be meaningless against bosses, but on trash mobs it'll add up because that means some stuff will die before it gets a chance to fire; especially, if it's a swarm that ate an airstrike or is being pummelled by HOC AoE.

I wouldn't worry about the Ump exo that much. It may be a strict upgrade, but I wouldn't spend the extra resources to enhance it for ump45 or ump9 unless RNG has denied you standard exos to run.

The Ump exo is mostly for ump40 meme teams.

Game is being stingy on gold exos for me. Not sure if it's a case of needing to run a different voodoo recipe. Probably should be my next priority now that I think about it.

For real. I have a lot of the X frames, but I had to roll hundreds during a rate up to get my first T frame. That stuff is rare.

Well up to date on the story. Still not in a good spot for 10-4E farming. M14 Mod 3 Exodia setup still needs me to be really careful or the hydras will wreck things. Pretty sure, until I get my fairies promoted to a higher rarity, I'll have to run with airstrike fairy.

Did some medal completion. 111/114 possible gold medals. Need a team that can kill Judge in 9-6. I could probably get 8-6E and 10-6 with what I have, but 10-6 means dealing with RNG and 8-6N requires me to kill dream, whose fight is kind of cancer game design. So I'll probably put that off till after CT. Maybe I'll have Negev and a decent armor fairy by then for the stuff that requires judge to die or will be easier killing her. Then get TAC up to maybe one shot dreamer before she can do much.

69/114 silver medals. Might go for some of these before CT, but it'll be for completion stuff because getting silver on most maps is burning resources for checking a box and the missions for silver medals are only slight refunds. Though with CT coming and noting that I could use better equips on some characters will having a need to burn off resources and equip contracts, it might have to wait, since there are better spots to farm resources.

Game still needs to give me grape, which would help with 10-4E. Though think I'm getting NTW-20 today, which I'm pretty sure I don't have and she is supposed to have uses in future content IIRC. Game did give me my second gold t-frame at least.

Playing arknights, has made me appreciate where this game has done a better job than most gachas. If there was one thing I'd like them to take for arknights, it would probably be the daily and weekly quest system. Rewards aren't tied to specific quests and it's an a la carte setup, so if you really hate a specific quest or just don't have the means to do it, you can skip and there are still enough other quests to earn, I guess what are called seals, that let you get the actual rewards. GFL's daily and weekly quest stuff really needs a revamp, both in making more casual friendly and removing the need to be creative on getting it done. Honestly, I think the worst is the repair one since they expect to fix 28 units and you kind of have to go outside the box to pull it off daily after a certain point.

Figured I'd give this a try now that I'm done with FEH.

I'm just working through the story and building the 4 dolls a day to get the dailies out of the way. Not sure how far I should go in building a team right now or using the dolls I've gotten from the story.

work on building 1-2 of each basic team as you get units in before worrying about too much else

    AR/SMG
    HG/RF
MG/SG (this can be put on the backburner until you have an SG or two)

definitely do use all the AR team girls; the other units you get as a reward from the campaign vary from fodder to be replaced to still viable units

You've sort of started in the quiet before the storm. We're set to have a big story event start in a couple weeks. This is also supposed to be the last "hard" one. When I say hard one, I mean that it doesn't have an "easy" mode. We know from the Asian servers that the subsequent story events will have an easier mode balanced for new players so that they can more easily enjoy the story, and a challenge mode for veteran players to try to earn some extra loot. That said, so far for every story event I've heard accounts of new players who started on day one of the event and have managed to both clear the story and compete well enough on the competitive ranking event to earn the limited equipment rewards. So it's possible to clear it from scratch but it might be a bit of a grind.

In stark contrast to some other games that I've played, the story units are good. Really good. Pretty much every member of the AR team is ranked as S-tier units once you've upgraded them with all of their bells and whistles. M16A1 is a bit weaker, but she also owns the niche of being the most resource efficient tank for the most resource efficient xp farming technique in the game. You'll get a copy of m14 eventually as a commander level up rewerd if you don't get her from crafting or a random drop first. She's also S-tier despite just being a 3*.

Post your user ID # and I'll add it to the op. Lean on our support echelons to carry you through the story to unlock loot and better logistics missions. Invest in the AR team since they're worth it. Then start assessing what rifles that you have to try and make a rifle team. MGs can be useful but I'd keep them on the backburner until you have some 5* ammo boxes.

eesh, trying to get through the events as a new player has gotta be rough though. Events being rifle & night heavy, but new players need their AR teams to begin.

Well after spending a ton of resources, finally got ST-AR her unique ammo. I know we have a rate-up that makes SPEQs more likely to drop, but until something changes to make those guns worthwhile, I'm not interested in doing more story night maps than I have to for daily and weekly quests. Partly because of the game freezing up, which seems to be mostly when one uses support echelons. Not to mention, a good chunk of them are pretty awful to farm. I know people are saying UMP5 is worth investing in, but I have Thompson that I can level and already have GR-36c at lvl 90. So unless UMP5 mod 3 is really good, I probably have better for when force field tanks start to matter. I mean, I'll get all the mods for completionism purposes, but SPEQs are another matter.

On the mode front, IIRC mod 3 Sopmod is suppose to be the best 0-2 dragger in the game. So I guess by the end of the month, she'll be going back into the 0-2 mines.

Which is why they'll start implementing an easy mode. At the very least chapter 1 should be pretty trivial to clear, and the first chapter usually contains most of the new dolls. I think chapter 6E is roughly the difficulty that the easy mode shoots for, which should be achievable for most new players since the story events last about a month.

MP5 mod 3 is good, but I don't see a reason to really need to grind out her SPEQ right now. Although hers is on my to-do list. I've just been too lazy.

She fills a slightly different role than the other two. G36C and Thompsons value pretty much comes from their raw HP bulk in addition to the force shield. With G36c having more well rounded stats and Thompson going all in on the minmax to that bulk. The bulk helps when it hits a critical breakpoint such as when something like a Jupiter cannon needs two hits to deplete a dummy link instead of one. When upgraded, especially with her exo, MP5 will have far superior evasion than the other two. Especially in endurance fights where her second skill comes into play. Perhaps the more significant distinction that she gets over the other two is that her digimind upgrade changes her tiles from AR buffs to AR/RF buffs.
