I know it has been literally months since I last played, but I'd like to think it speaks to how badly most of these needed a buff that I legitimately don't remember more than half of the cards. <_<
Storm of Steel going to 1 makes it seem like it could actually be fun now, so that's neat. Sadistic Nature is an odd one because I always liked the idea of that card, but I think I've legitimately never gotten it because it was such a small amount for such an inconsistent trigger. I'd love to see it be more usable~

I actually did a A20 storm of steel/phantasmal killer/finisher run on the beta branch (with pen nib and some other attack spam relics) as my primary damage source and it was incredible. I "lost" to the heart (we actually both died at the same time, it to thorns, me to the multi attack because I kind of played the heart fight sloppily) but what a change of pace for Silent damage. I legit like the changes. It's a shame some of Silent's more dubious cards won't get a total rework but it's still good QoL stuff.

I keep trying for the 5-card deck cheevo but that is super hard. Every time I try for a one-relic run I screw up and grab one instinctively. But this was an entertaining one.

While not related to the video game, this is a thing that is happening...

    nxvm4ekiqr7g.png

No details as of now. But if they can capture the magic of the video game, it could be something special. Pretty cool to see the creators find success and push their IP into new products.

I'm most interested in how the cooperative part works, but I'm a bit concerned on exactly how they'll translate the gameplay to a board game, especially with how math heavy the game can be at times (hi watcher)

    Guess we'll see

This feels like one of those really weird intersections where the more this is "just a physical version of the digital game" the worse it will be. If this was a StS game that had absolutely nothing to do with deck building I would be much more intrigued. :P

I feel like a lot of the things the game handles gracefully and casually (stat scaling, card upgrades, relic interactions) do not translate 1:1 if they just tried to copy paste everything to a physical format, so I'd have to assume we're going to see mechanical changes but some thematic things remain.

Sure, but even in a not 1-to-1 scenario, making a physical deckbuilder based on a digital deckbuilder of StS's girth and quality likely leads to a very watered down experience at best?
I'm happy to be wrong and eat a hat at a later date. But my main point is that if they used the IP as a jumping off point for another game, that's probably a much better and more interesting thing than making a different deck builder out of one the most well established and finely balanced deck builders. It strikes me as setting out to forever stand in the shadow of greatness. :P

If I were to hazard a guess, with the cooperative gameplay in mind it might be one of those scenario based dungeon crawlers with some kind of randomization to everything.

It's always good when a plan comes together:
    E8203A8CFC0AE17FC96E2F7F1ADDAEE5EB2570AB

Immolate on floor 5, Bottled Flame and Feed on Floor 6. Proceeded to eat most everything and had 160 max hp vs Shield and Sword, 120 hp vs the Heart, and 19 hp by the time that fight ended. So, uh, oof.

Rest of the deck was just abusing the fact i dumped conditons into it to draw cards and create block via FnP and Evolve. Then got snecko eye and corruption, and that's all she wrote. Not the easiest victory, but hey.

Was looking through the event demos and installed Across the Obelisk which seems like a fantasy party based Slay the Spire with a sprinkling of Darkest Dungeon's 4 vs 4 sideways combat. It's probably not going to be anywhere near as great as StS or DD but anybody bored can take a look.

So I beat it on Android with Ironclad A0 last night, and I don't know if this happens on all Android models (I have a Pixel 4a), but when certain enemies use speech bubbles, the entire screen flashes blue like they forgot the transparency on the layer the speech bubble graphic happens on. It's almost blinding. Hilarious.

Cards are a little hard to select as well (despite going wide screen, the cards aren't spread out very well and there's no option to tweak that), and depending on your phone screen you may be unable to click on UI elements (my corner front-facing camera means I can't see/select my draw pile unless I flip the phone, and then I can't select the options menu instead). Still, it's playable and completely worth $10.

    Heheheh.

Act 2 is the arsehole act.

Slightly more seriously: The thing with act 2 is that all it's fights are brutal. It's "Tough" Floor fights (any fight after the first 3 in act 1, and any fight after the first 2 in act 2 & 3) are nearly as hard as it's elite fights... without anywhere near the reward.

The flipside is that act 2 has probably the best set of events in the game - even the Coliseum is really good (assuming you survive it...).

Act 2 also really demands you have AOE. Cards like Crippling Cloud are very weak in act 1, and very, very strong in act 2.

Best tips for act 2 are: Make sure the boss relic you're taking is impactful. +energy, snecko eye, runic pyramid, Astrolabe (Pandora's box if you have Toxic or Molten egg is also a good bet) are the sort of relics you want to be taking. Make sure you've put at least one good AoE card in your deck - grabbing something like Immolate as a boss reward when you've no other AoE is a great move fer instance.

That and having a decent plan on what you're trying to do by the start of act 2 all goes a long way to making it way more handleable.

So my infinite run finally ended today, at the hands of the Time Eater. Turns out the infinite debuff "play only 15 cards a turn" and Time Eater's "play only 12 cards a turn" count different things as playing a cards. The first doesn't count burning off curses with the Candle, the second does.

Stupid slug burned through 7 Fairy Bottles over the course of that run. :P On the other hand as you can see in the spoiled for size image things were getting...kind of absurd.
    293rqdeyp9bk.jpg

The initial plan was to lean into Strength, as I had FOUR double your strength skills. Then I realized just how hard it was going to be to keep the deck thin enough to do that without the Pipe or the Courier- despite "running out of relics" those two never showed. Pipe presumably because you can only have four camp options and I foolishly grabbed the Lift relic. Courier because...reasons...? So I bottled the Ritual Dagger instead, then managed to duplicate the horrible thing a while later.

Realized that I should have just leaned into the curses with Heavy Blade and the +STR from curses relic, since by the time the buffs were done applying each fight started with over 200 strength. With a bottled strength doubler that's over 400 strength or 1200 damage. But Ritual Dagger ended up bigger. Then I randomly ended up with a third one. 99% of fights ended on Turn 1. If they didn't I was of course in deep deep shit from all the debuffs.

You're looking at a deck that died T1 to Time Eater!*

*After waxing him like four times earlier

Another odd quirk this run revealed: with the Rod, using the Candle clears curses for 1-1=0. But you still get "hit" for 0 which eats a stack of Buffer.
