These is something about this that is both hilariously charming and yet incredibly annoying.

Part of this might be having used the text to speech function in word to help with editing. It’s a lot easier to catch errors when listening. Boy though, a solid 10 hours of text to speech makes you really hate that fucking robot voice.

Her: Please edit the copy of the email I asked you to send to this group an hour ago to include X.
Me: I already sent it an hour ago. You were copied on it.
Her: Oh, I need it to another group. So can you edit that email and resend it to me?
Me: *weighs the value between having to explain she can edit the content of emails on her own when she presses Forward/Reply (more than a minute worth of effort?), versus the value of five seconds of work reforwarding that edited email myself*

Accommodations are good! But that doesn't mean that they aren't sometimes frustrating. So I'm both glad they have the option and it would drive me up the wall.

What a weird problem to track down... our ESB wasn't properly closing TCP connections until it ran out of them. I found that a week ago, the VMs were moved due to some UCS maintenance, and afterwards the "CPU wait" time spiked and seemed to be having trouble. I'm pretty confident this is related, but I don't have the hard evidence just yet... but at least we have mitigation in place.

Today I’m missing the only things that made my previous job somewhat bearable - a 35 hour work week, 20 days of PTO, 5 days sick leave, and office closure between Christmas and new year’s. I have 20 days PTO (vacation+sick leave) and most major holidays off now, but after taking a few weeks off for wedding-related things this year and with upcoming family travel for the holidays, I definitely cannot get sick at all or have any spontaneous PTO. And I have a better PTO policy than most places seem to - I just wish the US work culture writ large valued time off and work-life balance a LOT more.

Give your notice via email so you have it timestamped. Make sure you mention in your email people run from you when trying to give it.

Yeah. I'm working for a place that has good PTO for the US (15 days vacation, 10 days sick leave, 2 floating holidays and a bunch of regular holidays--maybe another 6 days?). But at the same time I've seen people get pulled out of their vacation to support emergencies and a coworker is cutting his own vacation time short due to schedule requirements and undoubtedly more people in the organization are doing the same and just...ugh. It's so bullshit.

So today is the first day teachers are back in my new building. This is the first I will meet most of them. I started today with 24 tickets in my list (22 closed, 1 in progress, 1 waiting on response) from the past week.

It is lunch time. Ticket 53 just hit my email. I've closed 4 of the new ones today, and on 1 I'm waiting for somebody else to do something first.

On happier news, I've been told there's a tradition where new staff are introduced to the whole staff at once on Monday. I'm required to have walk up music just like in Baseball. My first thought was, thinking of my queue, Can't Stop by RHCP. But now I'm thinking White and Nerdy by Weird Al, but figured I'd throw it out to y'all to see if there is something more clever.

Somehow my boss thinks that I'll be upset when he calls me a pedantic asshole.

Look, when some sends a pissy email about wanting to test every possible input, I'll go ahead and do that even if it will make the test run until the heat death of the universe.
