They handled MHA perfectly fine, so I think they have a fairly high tolerance. But yeah, I'm reticient to show them anything too harrowing. I think they might like Dr. Stone, and from what I remember of the manga it never gets too bad.
Vinland Saga is probably too much, I'd imagine, and I still gotta get to Fire Force to see if that seems okay.

Vinland saga has like thirty dudes dead from swords and shit in the first thirty seconds

Well, actually, I know what we're gonna watch now, we're gonna finally watch Escaflowne. After that though... I guess we'll have to see.
This season’s pretty stacked.
Right now my list of shows that have actually been good so far has Fire Force, Dr Stone, Vinland Saga, Astra Lost in Space, Cop Craft, and Granbelm, while also carrying over Demon Slayer and Fruits Basket from last season. If I’m in the mood for something kinda embarrassingly trashy but fun I’ll probably add Danmachi season 2 to that.
I dont think any of them are particularly great to watch with the kids though.
You know what? As long as it doesn’t go super dark along the lines of Madoka, Granbelm might be OK. Magical girls piloting admittedly silly lookin mechs fighting each other for some reason.
It’s an original thing though so there’s no telling what direction it’s going after that first ep. could get too dark.
The kids do need to finish watching Mob Psycho 100!
Kids’ concept of horror/fright is different from adults, many times. Of course we wouldn’t show them anything too violent or horrific. Something like MP100 or MHA is generally fine as there’s no actual death.
Mori and I are planning to watch Fire Force and Dr Stone, too. And I’d like to see the new Fruits Basket.

So far this season the only anime that has made it to my list is Cop Craft. Human Cop + Elven warrior girl are partnered up in this huge city of a mixture of humans and 'aliens' from the fantasy world. First case has them tracking down a kidnapped fairy.
Surprisingly good so far. only one ep in tho.
This wasn't on my radar but I like your elevator pitch.
To be fair Rowling repeatedly made Slytherins as a whole to be evil bastards rather than a subset
I was genuinely surprised and disappointed on a meta-narrative level how in the final novel not a single Slytherin stays to defend the castle
like, wasn't there some kind of moral somewhere about stereotypes
This was from the other day but if I recall correctly, while it didn't happen in the movies, Slughorn and the Slytherins were sent away, and a large chunk of them did join Voldamort's side, but the rest came back with reinforcements with Slughorn leading the charge and joined the battle.
Slughorn came back with reinforcements, but Voldemort explicitly says that all the Slytherins except Draco have joined his side
JN: And how much is it that being sorted into Slytherin is, you know, sorted into good guys and bad guys here?
JKR: Well, they’re not all bad, that would- I know I’ve said this before, (JN: Yeah, I remember.) and I think I said it to Emerson [Spartz - Mugglenet.com], they are not all bad, and, well, far from it. As we know, at the end, they may have (laughs) a slightly more highly developed sense of self-preservation then other people because…
SU: Yeah, right.
JN: Yeah.
JKR: A part of the final battle that made me smile was Slughorn galloping back with Slytherins, (SU: Yes!) (JN: laughs) but they’d gone off to get reinforcements first, you know what I’m saying? But yes, they came back, they came back to fight, so I mean- but I’m sure that many people would say “Well, that’s common sense, isn’t it? Isn’t that smart, to get out, get more people and come back with them?”

I still blows my mind that the name of that “genre” is gacha.

It’s way better than I thought it would be from the description. Mostly because it feels like a typical network TV cop drama but then little infusions of anime bullshit to make it juuuuust weird enough to be fun.

That's from an interview after the fact and directly contradicts what's in the text though. She's infamous for doing things like that in interviews.
all the new megucas have stories and they're very wholesome and sweet
I am extremely leery of most Brand Name gacha games, especially when they haven't been around long enough to see if they're being treated well or as a blatant cash grab

Huh I guess your right? The part in the book where Slughorn comes back isn't well written and mentions "them" behind him and in my mind I always assumed that was Slytherin students. I guess thats what she was going for but she could have wrote it better

It's actually the onomatopoeia of the sound the vending machine makes when you turn the knob to get the capsule. "Gachapon" is a combination of the sound of the vending machine and the sound that the capsule makes when you open it.
Japan has a lot of onomatopoetic terms in their language. It just so happens that this particular one happens to also sound to English ears as a different phrase. The universe is vast and uncaring but it also has a sense of humor sometimes.

No, the gacha games took their name from the gachapon (capsule toy) machines that have been around for-freaking-ever, because they had the same "mechanic" of "insert currency to obtain random prize."

The most melancholy of all shows punctuated by moments of happiness is Girls Last Tour, and if you don't feel the melancholy then you can read the manga for it.
An actual running theme of it is that everybody dies eventually and everything will fade to nothing and nobody will even be around to remember it, and if by some miracle anybody is, there is no guarantee they will get it at all; it goes in on memento mori in ways that shows full of people dying horrible worthless deaths can't touch.
The author's twitter (https://twitter.com/tkmiz) is full of delightful goofy doodles, but one of my friends says that between those doodles are tweets that sound like a person who is chronically depressed and needs help.
I’m really happy the kids are into MHA; we’ve had some really busy weekends lately so last Sunday we all just sat on the sofa binge-watching MHA and eating leftover pizza. Having kids past the toddler stage is awesome!
All I remember about Ninja Scroll was this dude who threw spiders or something, and he gets cut completely in half and turns out he was full of spiders.

El Melloi doesn't seem too violent...
Fire force has shower scenes already, but the action is proooobably ok in the first ep?
Vinland Saga is a story made with adults in mind, so while it's great, I also woud not let kids watch it, unless you want them to have nightmares.
Maybe show them Mob Psycho 100?
It’s an original thing though so there’s no telling what direction it’s going after that first ep. could get too dark.
