Interesting. So people with no masks unlocked could be in a 1+ mask run as long as one person has unlocked them.
IIRC you could skip past mask of the long night by joining someone that had other masks unlocked and then running the visions with one of the easier ones active and it still would trigger the mask quests if you completed the lost areas.
I would recommend if you don't want to try to find another group doing masks to do that just use the mask of the long night in ogrimar and just bee line the mask of the burned bridges. Just do that one area and then finish it which can be done quickly and very safely. Then basically never use it again until you do 5 mask runs.

Unless your cloak is WAY behind, I think even with Long Night you could last in a Vision for freaking ever.
I've got all the masks unlocked now, so I'll probably do a 2 mask run for my first this week (picking up the first 2 cloak quest MacGuffins), and then depending on how hairy it was, either try bumping up to 3 or just drop down to 1 to get the easy 450 item and my last 2 MacGs (assuming the first run didn't end in disaster and keep me from getting 2).
Four Mask Solo out of the way! And dear goodness, OG is so much easier than SW. It was surprisingly not at all hairy, with no need to use any orbs until I fought the last boss of the Drag - with 250 sanity left I probably would have been fine, but I decided not to take any unnecessary risks. I had about 1000 sanity when I reached Rexxar, but I decided to be cautious again and fight him in an orb as much as possible, and the third orb was on Thrall.
Just that five Mask clear left to go. Given that I'm pretty confident that I can farm four Mask clears for 465 gear until the next expansion and given that PVP will eventually give me a 460 weapon for Conquest (right? I've never done the Conquest grind before), I'm 100% sure that I'll be able to get the 5 Mask run before the end of the expansion.
I figure that that's pretty OK for someone who hasn't stepped into anything harder than a Mythic 0 or a Raid Finder difficulty raid this expansion.

It's honestly just the mage quarter that sucks in Stormwind.
On my 5 mask run last week as Ret, I went through the Dwarven District, Old Town, and Trade District in that order, using zero sanity orbs & I entered the mage district at 500/575 sanity. I then proceeded to use two sanity orbs in the Mage Quarter ALONE, though to be fair the second one was because I got bad luck on Gift of the Titans and had to use a sanity orb to kill the patrolling blob.
The fact that you can go through three full zones (four if you count moving between them) with a TOTAL net loss of 75 sanity, and then lose hundreds and hundreds in the mage quarter, is a sign that something is wrong with the zone balance. The closest thing Orgrimmar has to that is the Aqir quarter with Rexxar, where a class without a poison dispel can be cc'd at very bad times. But even that is nowhere near as bad as the mage quarter.

Awesome. Fellow no-M+/Raider here. What class/spec are you doing this as again?

The Mage Quarter is the most egregiously broken thing in Visions. As I bitched about last week, the next thing that needs to be fixed is just to completely remove the patrolling blobs. They're unnecessary with how much crap is already going on in that section. After that I'd like to see how it compares on Sanity burn to Rexxar quarter.
Edit: Just as a general philosophy I don't think randomly patrolling (fast) mobs really belong in Visions with Orbs not being usable in combat (and/or not being instant). Or having eating being interrupted.

The patrolling rare blob is the one I was talking about. The patrolling small blobs aren't much of a problem inherently, they just exacerbate the rest of the zone. The fact that you can get through all the other zones with no net sanity loss means even if those patrolling mobs existed in other zones, it would not actually matter.
Meanwhile I just did Orgrimmar 5 mask and didn't actually need a sanity orb. I used one before Thrall for safety, but I was at 370 going into the fight and finished higher than that at the end, so I needn't have worried.

I’m maining a ret Paladin.
Dhalphir is obviously the expert, so listen to them over me, but: I’m specced to Zeal, Fires of Justice, Fist of Justice, Wake of Ashes, Unbreakable Spirit, Word of Glory, and Crusade. I’ve gone for Light’s Decree, Empyrean Power, and Avengers Might on my Azerite pieces. For my Heart, I’m using Purification Protocol as the Major, with Vision of Perfection, Breath of the Dying, and Crucible of Flame as the minors.
I’ve been able to five clear (no masks) on my Warlock, Hunter, and Warrior. I expect to try to one mask OG this week on all three, but I haven’t tried yet.

use Hammer of Wrath over Fires of Justice, or Blade of Wrath. Fires is pretty far behind those two. Everything else is spot on for current choices, though outside of visions you would run Vision major over Purification.

Worldvein's deeply meh when you're on your own, plus you move too much in Visions to get much use from it.
Purification overperforms in Visions because there are so many Aberrations. The 3 second stun is a huge help (as is the damage buff as small adds die in the beam).

If you’re not overgearing it, I find taking Rexxar nice and slow at the start to be a good way of doing it. Don’t pop cooldowns, dps him nice and slow, interrupt the first pig and dps it down. Stun the next pig and dps it down. Pop cooldowns here or slightly before with the second pig and use your essence major to blow up the last 2 piggies.
But if gift of the titans pops at any point then you just fucking YOLO.

I usually use a sanity orb on pull so that you can ignore everything for a while.
THREE MASK full clear on my Warlock. . . will probably wait until next week. I didn't unlock any Masks in Stormwind last week. Warrior, Demon Hunter, and Hunter will all probably all end up in the same boat as the Warlock. Well, maybe not Demon Hunter - I've been lagging behind gearing that one. I would also appreciate it if I could stop getting boots from every chest. Yes, it's an upgrade, but shesh, it's also the piece I literally just upgraded last run!
Also, I am SUPER happy with my current transmog on my Warlock.

Lower corruption levels really helped me out when it came to fighting Rexxar in my craptastic gear. He and the adds absolutely crushed me at 50+ corruption while doing 4 masks both when trying to take it slow and fast but when I dropped down to something like 10 the whole fight became almost trivial. Even on 5 masks he was completely doable using the slow approach though the extra 25% was really starting to show.
Beginning with scheduled weekly maintenance in each region the week of March 17, all gear rewards from Horrific Visions will be Corrupted.
We’ve heard from many players that Corrupted items were not obtainable enough, limiting their ability to play with the system and its inherent tradeoffs. This change will substantially increase the number of Corrupted items reliably earned each week, allowing players to choose from among a greater selection of Corrupted pieces and enjoy using those that work best in a given situation.

Corruption doesn't really make anything else directly difficult. Being hit by Thing from Beyond can be an issue, but the Rexxar fight doesn't restrict your movement directly so moving away from it or moving out of the eye shouldn't be too much of a problem.
But until you get to 80+, nothing directly increases your damage taken.

Purification overperforms in Visions because there are so many Aberrations. The 3 second stun is a huge help (as is the damage buff as small adds die in the beam).
Also the fact it will over the course of the run delete probably a good 20-30 mobs instantly which speeds things up.
Regarding corruption: I think that it’s one of those things that highlights personal ability, or at least that can highlight it.
I have a theory of player skill that basically says “skill is a reflection of the number of items that a person can effectively monitor and handle at any given time.” Optimal play therefore represents a different thing from person to person. At the top end, you have the people who have an awareness of where they need to be and when they need to be there, with respect to the abilities and cool downs on up to about a dozen other players or mobs while still using appropriate abilities at appropriate times themselves. At the bottom end you have people who pull 25k DPS in 460 gear who need raid warnings to not stand in the fire. Most of us are somewhere between those extremes.
Corruption basically adds another set of mechanics to track. It increases the reward, but also the risk. I had a run on my warrior two weeks ago that ended abruptly when I took too long to see that I was standing in the eye patch. My cloak was down, I didn’t have leap up to get out, I couldn’t find something to charge to, and I was too slow in backing out. A large trash pull that should have been a challenge, but one that I should have been able to handle, ended up killing me. I pushed my skill ceiling, and the ceiling pushed back.
As the number of variables increases, it becomes harder to play optimally. Rexxar has a lot of simultaneous mechanics that can be punishing, and adding more with Corruption will make the fight even more punishing. Removing a complication or two to make the fight simpler can make it easier for a player with a given level of skill, even as a more skilled player would have the opposite experience from the same choice.
The simple solution of course, for all of us who struggle, is to get gud. But that’s easier said than done.

I know my essences still suck ass on alts but I am kind of looking forward to living in visions and farming up some gear. That is going to now be a fun little solo project.
I've had a very consistent 5 man for all visions since 8.30 dropped. Same group every week, helping each other level our cloaks.
As a healer, who doesn't really enjoy pushing super challenging content on my Elemental offspec, I'd rather heal within a group setting. So it has been great to have a consistent 5 man for raising our cloaks together.
We've done a 1-Mask run and won, but so far we haven't attempted to push it any higher than that. I'm not sure what the fate of our group will be once we max our cloaks. I know you can continue to add more corruption resistance by doing a 5 chest run. But you can also get that by doing a weekly Normal or higher N'Zoth clear. I'm not sure if my group will need or want to continue pushing visions once we hit rank 15.

I don't know. I felt like it didn't do enough burst damage for my liking compared to the laser.

The main thing is you can use is twice as frequently. That combined with the stun and deletion effect make it probably quicker over the course of run than the laser. I have literally evaporated the mini boss at the end of some of the wings. Having one of those fights take 3 seconds for 200 sanity gain makes that run go a LOT smoother. Its really hard to beat a short cool down high quality instant cast 3 second stun+ lots of damage + chance to delete things.
Building on a great deal of feedback and discussion, we’re working on an update to the game. With the next regularly-scheduled weekly maintenance in each region, players who have earned a given Rank 3 Essence on one character will be able to directly obtain that Essence from MOTHER on any subsequent characters.
When playing an alt character that is missing Essences that have already been earned on a different character, most ordinary Visions of N’Zoth activities, such as Horrific Visions, Assaults, raid bosses, Mythic Keystone Dungeons, or BFA Season 4 PvP, will award a new soulbound currency – Echoes of Ny’alotha. These Echoes can be brought to MOTHER in the Heart Chamber, and exchanged directly for eligible Rank 3 Essences. While ordinarily each specific Essence must be learned in order to unlock it for other characters via MOTHER, all Essences associated with Nazjatar and Mechagon reputations will be available if any other different character has earned any of the Essences available from that reputation.
Our goal with this update is to preserve the efforts that players put into unlocking a given Essence through its associated activity the first time, while offering subsequent characters far more flexibility in pursuing that goal. We’ll have additional details in a forthcoming hotfixes update 298 that goes out around the same time as maintenance, but we wanted to let the community know ASAP that this change is in the works.
As always, thank you for all your feedback on this topic!

Good news for my foxy warrior I've been leveling half-heartedly.
We’re now a couple of weeks from some players reaching Rank 15 on their legendary cloaks, and we’d like to clarify how you’ll further improve your cloak in the weeks after hitting Rank 15.
At Rank 15, players who wish to make use of more and greater Corrupted items will want to imbue themselves with greater Corruption Resistance. This is done at Rank 15 with a Malefic Core, which can be consumed and applied to the cloak, increasing the cloak’s max Corruption Resistance by 3. There are two ways to acquire a Malefic Core:
Complete all four objective areas and the boss in a Horrific Vision.
Defeat N’Zoth the Corruptor in Ny’alotha on Normal (or higher) difficulty.
Players who are at the limit of the cloak’s progression can receive one Malefic Core from the first of these two activities completed each week, and can continue to upgrade their cloak with a Malefic Core once per week for the remainder of Visions of N’Zoth. However, if your cloak isn’t caught up to the current cap, you can acquire and use up to two Malefic Cores per week by doing both of the activities above.
Beginning with weekly maintenance in each region the week of March 24, players who reached Rank 15 the previous week will start receiving a Malefic Core from the two feats listed above.

While there is always a place for git gud I think what makes the corruption system interesting is that it allows for more versions of it than simply learning how to counterplay a certain something more effectively. Doing solo visions with 4/5 masks at around 450-455 you can really start to feel how much it pays off thinking about gear in a way that hasn't really been true since legion.

Steam: pazython
The main thing is you can use is twice as frequently. That combined with the stun and deletion effect make it probably quicker over the course of run than the laser. I have literally evaporated the mini boss at the end of some of the wings. Having one of those fights take 3 seconds for 200 sanity gain makes that run go a LOT smoother. Its really hard to beat a short cool down high quality instant cast 3 second stun+ lots of damage + chance to delete things.
Good news for my foxy warrior I've been leveling half-heartedly.
