I hope that Waypoint ends up watching the Rebuild films because even though the last one isn't out yet and so they might not stick the landing, I certainly don't think it's going to end up being another EoE situation, and as far as some of the characters they had major problems with, like Kaji and Ritsuko, the Rebuild films have really done well in revising and rehabilitating characters who felt half-baked and/or especially problematic in the original series.

Is any of the Ritsuko stuff even in rebuild? Feels like that was completely excised. I think rebuild might be crueller to Shinji and Asuka if thats possible.

Rebuild spoilers:
Yes, the Ritsuko relationship stuff was excised. Which is good.
As far as whether or not the Rebuild films are more cruel to Shinji and Asuka, well... for one, EoE was pretty fucking cruel to Asuka. And as far as Shinji goes... Shinji actually took initiative and acted in (actual) direct defiance of his father at the end of 3.33, so we're in uncharted territory for him.
When you consider Evanglion through the lens of Anno exploring his experience with depression, and consider how his life has been more stable and has contained healthy relationships with people of both sexes... it's hard not to think that the Rebuild films are going to come to a conclusion that isn't more optimistic and positive than previous Evangelion endings. Certainly won't be as dire and bleak as EoE.

Is that what happened at the end of 3.33? Its so hard to keep this series in my brain but
Didn't his father want him to pull the spear out and start the third impact? As I recall Koworu realized they were being manipulated by him at the last moment and tries to talk Shinji out of it but he's so ruined at that point that he refuses to listen to the idea that pulling the spear might not offer salvation. Either way after it he's unknowingly start the end of the world and is in a broken and shutdown state. He has time to pull back up but world-ending is hard to come back from.
Sidenote I really hope that nobody explains to the first timers on the podcast what is supposed to be happening between Shinji and Asuka because I don't think they will put that together themselves and I am living for the moment they get told that happens.
Back in middle school I thought it was 'atomical' instead of 'anatomical'. Like if something was atomically correct, all the atoms were in the correct place, obviously.

I was pronouncing Hermione as her-me-own in my head while reading, all the way up until the first movie came out.
Oh, I found out I can't listen to audiobooks of anything I've read before, because I totally mispronounce every name in my head. Or just read so fast I don't even consciously think of how their names are pronounced. Either way, I couldn't recognize anything.
I just heard someone mention Awkwafina on a movie podcast and turns out its meant to sound like aqua! I've only ever read it and it's spelled like awkward so I don't know
aa·kwuh. First 'a' is the open backed unrounded vowel. The 'q' and 'u' make a kw consonant cluster, and the final 'a' is the schwa sound. It's basically the same pronunciation as the American one you get if you google "aqua pronunciation".
Oh hey it’s nice to hear David Sims finally criticize The Atlantic

To be fair, that mispronunciation was so common that IIRC Rowling wrote in someone saying it phonetically in one of the later books.
Ah-kwa
How do you pronounce aqua?
that's a reigonalism. Like coyote, there are multiple common pronunciations depending on where you are.
Kai yoet
Which makes me immediately wonder...
Kai yeet?
