Hi guys, this is my first post, and I notice this board didn't have a must post intro rule like all those other forums, cool stuff.
NEways, I am on the market right now for a new console, and its really only between XBox and PS3, and I am completely stuck in the middle right now. I got friends telling me one thing and other friends telling me another.
I know there are some hardcore games here who probably have both systems, and even if you don't, what do you recommend?
I can only be who I am, but how I can be what I do not know?
infact, I would say Wii60 if you don't have a Wii yet, and have ps3 money.
The PS3 will have a serious price drop in the near future, investing in it now seems silly. PLus the 360 library is way more robust at this time. My only concern would be system reliability, so I would advise getting extended warrentee.
I know someone says it in every one of these threads, but just look at the games available, and the games coming out in the future, and decide which one appeals to you more. Personally, I'd recommend the 360, but it's really up to you.

yeah, what I said was assuming that OP had already thought of this and wanted other peoples opinions.

My post wasn't really directed towards you, but it sounds like he has already gotten opinions from his friends, and I doubt those of a messageboard that has a pretty large anti-sony bias are going to sway his opinion much. But yeah, he's right that it's a good idea to wait for the inevitable ps3 price drop if you want to get one.

Ah, okay. I often mistake honesty as person being sarcastic/passive aggressive. I am glad we had this conversation, LewieP.
I can only speak of the ps3 and wii since I don't have a 360 yet, but will one day this year. PS3 is a great system with a few great games, but is unbelievably expensive. It will have amazing games (Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Littlebigplanet, Lair, MGS4, FFXIII, Socom...etc.) but, it seems everyone in the entire world is going with 360, so I suppose just go with 360.
The library is bigger definitely and it is absolutely cheaper for the 360. You have higher chances of finding games on it as of right now that you like on it since it has had 1 year to get into the next "gen" of titles for the system whereas PS3 is in the first line of titles. Kinda like how all the first gen games for ps2 were "meh" but once second gen games came out they were much much better.

so, 360 I guess.
I won't lie - if the ps3 was cheaper, it'd be tempting to get it. PS3 has a lot to offer like this guy says - so check out the games...it'll be a good console.

Tough one, I suppose.
At the moment, I'd say the 360. It has a solid library of games and the price is reasonable. The PS3 is suffering right now, but I have no doubt that it will pick up soon enough. The problem there is mainly the price. If it was in the same price range as the 360, I'd get one.
So it comes down to (a) the games and (b) how much you are willing to spend.

The only reason I want a PS3 right now is purely because the orriginal IP that is appearing on the playstation network. Other than that I personally would recomend a 360 as it has a heap of neato games for it.
Of the two I'd pick 360, it's cheaper and has more exclusive games worth owning IMO. If I were planning on picking one up though I'd wait until later this year because the price could drop and the 65nm chips are coming.
No - it has the same ps3 drought and a limited array of first party titles.
Between my brother and I, we have a lot of wii games and I honestly end up going back to the cube or ps2 when I have friends over. Maybe it'll be different for you, but I would have waited on the wii till brawl comes out.

Well, then he might as well just go with the 360 then. :P

Thanks for the input guys...really appreciate it...leaning towards the 360 for sure now
But some of you mention something about stability, have you guys been having technical issues with it?
Yeah, there have been quite a few threads about it. It's certainly the least stable of the three right now, but it comes with a year warranty and hopefully the new chips later this year will stop the overheating.

My launch unit has suffered one harddrive failure, which was very annoying and the first time ever (and remember, I am old) a console has failed me. MS were very professional and quick to fix it though, so I'm not going to complain.
Other reasons to go for the 360: Crackdown, Geometry Wars, Castlevania: SOTN, Dead Rising, Guitar Hero 2, Gears of War, Lost Planet, Halo 3, and all the previous exclusives MS has nabbed from the competition.
The 360 has games, but I hear there's a much improved cooling system due in the fall that will increase reliability and also make the system a quieter machine. Microsoft does have a beefy warranty now, so I guess if you don't mind the noise and the possibility of shipping it off if it dies, go for it now. But I've seen quite a few "My 360 has died." threads popping up.
PS3...eh. Promising stuff on the horizon, but that's on the horizon. Give it time so you don't blow the money on something you dislike.
Wii has games, but they are mostly things that show the possibilities and don't really develop an idea for the waggle into a filly-fledged game. If you have a boner for mini-games, the Wii is paradise. Otherwise, it's a bit barebones. Like PS3, the future holds many promises.
If you get a 360, definitely pick up an extended warranty. My experience from talking to people where I work about 360's is that the failure rate is somewhat significant.
First of all, fair warning that technically I'm biased since I work in games at MS. That said, I'm a fellow gamer first and foremost. (If anything, my library contains mostly PS2 games, since I'm a big J-RPG fan)
The allure of the PS3 is mostly in its future. If you're an RPG fan like I am, than certainly you are interested in what Square-Enix has in store for the system (although not till 2008). Then there's also MGS 4, and the slew of Sony-developed titles coming out this fall. However, there's also the distinct possibility of a PS3 price drop either sometime this summer or later this year, and you might be kicking yourself if it turns out you could have saved some cash just by waiting. Besides, there's unfortunately not that as many games out for the PS3 now that are "killer", which is understandable given the console's relative newness.
In the meantime, yeah there's a boatload of great games for the 360. No surprise, since it's been out far longer. If you're like most gamers, there's more than enough regular titles, as well as Xbox Live Arcade games, to keep you occupied for a long, long time.
As for the 360's stability, it's really hit or miss. I have a 360 that I got as a launch gift, that hasn't given me any problems whatsoever. (My entertainment unit is also extremely well ventilated, so that might be the reason) The vast majority of my co-workers are the same. However, I certainly know many people where that hasn't been the case. Word on the street is that the Elite actually runs more stable, so if you're willing to pony up the extra cash, then that might be a good idea for you. There's also the rumor that a newer rev of the 360 hardware will come out later this year (using 65nm, running cooler, etc.), but I don't know if that's true (not that I'd be allowed to tell you guys anyway, heh).
Lastly, it's all about the games. Take a look at the current game library, and see if there's anything that you must check out. To a lesser extent, you can do the same with future games, but I think it's far too easy to fall into the trap of hype. That is, of course, you are the world's #1 Halo or #1 Ratchet & Clank fan, then the choice should be fairly easy.
Have they at least fixed the... what was it... something about the thing that clips the processor down warping the mobo, have they fixed that in the Elite?

And I currently have a 360, I loves it but I'm also now in the market for a ps3 (if I can get away with it, next month, if not it'll have to be after my holiday in September). I have been 100% swung by LittleBigPlanet and am essentially paying £400+ just for that game.
Personally I'd recommend the 360 at the moment though.
I've seen these types of threads come up a couple times and people make the same comments each time. I own neither system, but I am usually surprised that noone mentions the multiplayer features. From what I understand, isn't Live far and away better than what the PS3 has to offer right now? Of course Free vs. Pay is factor too. But, the Live system looks extremely polished to me. If I was making a decision between the PS3 and 360, an important question would the PS3 have similar functionality. Granted I haven't followed any advances to either platform, but I was curious as to how you guys felt.
I have had both systems, the 360 and now the PS3, and I would 2nd what someone said earlier, wait for the 360 to become more reliable. I had one a few months after launch, had to have it repaired 3 times, and the last time it froze, I sold it for credit and waited for the PS3 to become available. A few friends of mine had problems with the 360 as well, and some sold it and some finally got their hands on a working one. I have my PS3 running 24/7 folding and gaming, and it has never frozen on me once. The online component of the PS3 is crap compared to the 360, and the games are not as all encompassing as the 360 either. I would recommend the 360, when all the bad machine problems are gone, unless you have a home theater setup and watch a lot of DVD movies, then I would spend the extra money and get a PS3. If you do get a 360, I would think long and hard before buying an Elite, the new version. I was fine with the 20 gig HD on my regular 360 and spending the extra money on a system with no HD DVD player is a waste in my book.
Bottom line: Wait for 360 a bit

My Wii is used every friday night for my "Game Night". I use it to surf the web on the big screen, watch videos on YouTube, then we bust out some old school games (Goemon, Mario Kart 64, and even Gunstar Heroes); When we get bored with that, we play a round of bowling, then probably put in some Gamecube games.
So I think it's the best multiplayer platform out there.
Oh and OT: Pick up the 360 right now. It's got the largest library of games out there, it's not nearly as expensive, and most of the games coming out for the PS3 will be on the 360 at the same time.

That's debatable depending on the type of games you want to play. For pick up and play, sure. Perfect for people who are not familiar with games. But if you were going to argue that it has the most/best multiplayer games I'd be a bit more skeptical. If you include the gamecube backlog, no doubt. But my brother has a lot of fun multiplayer x360 games on arcade as well as in his library.
But yeah, the wii provided good times. I just hope they start pumping out games now and utilize its potential because I'm sort of regretting my purchase when all we do is go back to smash brothers, wario ware (GC version is so much better), and naruto shippuden on ps2.
Thanks guys.
