Nic, is the supermarket fruit pie the same aesthetic as the servo pie or is this something classier

it's a tiny bit classier. Imagine the kind of apple pie Coles would sell in the bakery section.

edit: ingredient qualities are probably nearer the servo variety, though.

Bad food thread, the other day I was grilling some chicken thighs, the best cut of chicken, bone-in and skin-on as Is right and proper.

After they were finished there was a piece of succulent moist juicy meat and sizzling hot skin stuck to the grill.

Like an idiot, I grabbed it without tongs and immediately singed my finger

    Worth it.

    See I get roulette Doritos

Because they don't intentionally taste bad they are just super spicy

Which is fun and goofy in a way that "this one tastes like if a booger farted" is not

See I would so much rather eat a dogshit flavored jelly bean than spend hours doubled over in pain from a pointlessly spicy chip but I guess that's just me.

I get a weird kind of high when I eat too much spicy food and every day I eat spicier food than the previous I know I am putting that high slightly further out of reach for tomorrow.

But at least capsaicin isn't heroin.

deffo not bad food but i also did not cook it. totes someone's comfort food!

i had Filipino food for maybe the first time? never eaten at a restaurant dedicated to it, at least, and we did kamayan-style which at this restaurant also meant off-menu chef's choice, so that was pretty cool. i'll try most things at least once, but my preference for not-pork and raw fish (vs any cooked seafood) could have been a stumbling block, but thankfully everything was good. even though i didn't clean off my second pork belly /guilt

i think my favorite was Bicol express? the names immediately dropped out of my head, so i'm cross-referencing the menu and image search. the homemade spam was also good, though rich enough i'm not too sad i only snagged a bite of it.
oh, also don't remember having tried fresh dragonfruit/pitaya before: kinda kiwi-like texture, with no real flavor but minerality.

    mm, love trying new cuisine

I had to consciously dial back my spicy food consumption at a certain point because of this, I was just constantly eating hotter and hotter stuff because my tolerance had gotten so high. I wasn't enjoying mild or even moderately spicy food anymore because there wasn't that feedback, which wasn't a great place to be.

Up until my mid-30s I would go max spice level on everything. Nowadays my stomach can barely handle Sriracha a couple times a week.

Ehh most cuts of brisket are still fairly sizeable. If you're starting with a raw unseasoned brisket, the smallest I've seen available in my meat counter is at least 2-3lbs. That's a fair amount of meat for one or two dudes.

Oh you certainly can, but the cooktime is still substantial, even with a smaller piece to get that level of tenderness. And if you're going to that much effort for bbq brisket for that small amount, at that point it's more effective to smoke a larger portion or simply buy some pre-made stuff once you factor in all the cost of wood/time/spices etc. That or simply take the cut and chuck it into an instant pot for 45 minutes at high pressure to tenderize it, but that's the realm of corned beef more than barbecue brisket then.
