WotC prefers to have things decidedly male.

When I first read this yesterday, I didn't know what it was referring to.

    Now I do.

Boy, they really screwed that one up, didn't they?

    Oh sweet, the cascade event!

It costs 2500 gold to play? The fuck WoTC?!!!

    Fuck them.

So we went from 250 gold and you'd likely win it back or get some free cards to, if you don't have 2500 gold saved up when you notice the event going on you have to shell out $10 in cash in gems to play.

But hey, it's a cheep way to get card styles. So yeah, let's all be happy about it. What's the point of the events then? So it's all the people who don't actually want to play the event grinding out whatever wins so they can get the card styles for only $10? Awesome, sounds like fun.

I’m pretty ok with 2500G for purely cosmetic rewards?

It’s like three days worth of quest rewards. Or one if you get your 15 weekly wins today.

Me also! I have very little interest in the game type, but these are card styles for a bunch of cards I loooove and will continue to use for a year, so I'd like to get them. halp?

Apparently once upon a time is even more dumb in cascade than usual. Get a turn 1 goose on your opponent’s first turn on the draw.

Once Upon a Time is super good here, yeah. My Gruul Stompy deck worked really well, it felt like the 3-4 CMC cards performed the best.

Playing a Zhur-Taa Goblin on turn 2 and having it dig up a free Pelt Collector is great. A couple of times I pulled that and got them to scoop instantly.

What are y'all spending gold on?, I'm sitting on like 70k because I've had my fill of Eldraine draft by now and hardly buy packs in the store outside of release week, so I'll definitely take a 2500 event that you can't crash out of with no rewards after 1 game.

One of my games today someone who was almost definitely going to kill me next turn scooped because I got a free Nissa, cackling like mad I was.

The most important thing about the Cascade event is probably making sure that whatever one-drops your deck has are super impactful. For instance, a deck with 4 uncastable big boys and 4 geese might be better than a deck with 4 geese 4 grazer, because the grazers are a whiff a lot of the time and you always have ramp on T2 either way. Also, decks that win via cast triggers become much stronger, thus the prevalence of mill control decks. The self-mill Arclight Phoenix dredge decks might also have a similar advantage, being able to always cascade a 2-mana spell into a 1-mana self-mill engine that can get them a phoenix.

Haven't played the format yet, those are just my thoughts.

Here you go. It's kind of limited itself by my lack of shock lands and other rares, but I feel like it holds up ok. But man, playing Questing Beast and having it dig up Grumgully or Rhythm of the Wild is pretty great.

    2 Questing Beast (ELD) 171
    10 Mountain (ELD) 265

4 Grumgully, the Generous (ELD) 192
    12 Forest (ELD) 269
    4 Zhur-Taa Goblin (RNA) 215
    2 Pelt Collector (GRN) 141
    2 Once Upon a Time (ELD) 169
    1 Ravager Wurm (RNA) 200
    2 Collision // Colossus (RNA) 223
    4 Shock (M20) 160

Went 5-1 in the Cascade event with a Cavalcade deck. Played around with the Gruul deck also. It gets pretty snowbally when you get all your Pelt Collectors out easily.

I had a couple Cat decks ready to go, went with the Jund one to have access to Once Upon a Time. Cat decks are most annoying to pilot when you're missing pieces, but with Cascade it's very easy to hit your Cats, Ovens, & Geese. Mayhem Devils are a little harder but once they come down the game ends quick.

The alternative cost spells and/or reduce cost spells are quite good in cascade.

Casting a The Great Henge at 3 or 4 mana, and searching for a Thorn Mammoth or End-Raze Forerunners is great.

I had Embercleave in my hand twice, ready to kill opponent on next attack, and both times they surrender before I can cast it.

And how adventure works with cascade, they had to ban Flaxen Intruder, getting 3x 2/2's from cascaded 2 cmc spell is too strong.

Yeah I just now racked up a clean 5-1 with my unmodified mill deck and it wasn't particularly close. At least three of those wins felt like spite concessions.

My loss was to a Korvald Cats deck whichat least was amusing as hell to watch go off. I went from 18 to dead on like turn 3.

Mill seems like it would be strong since you get around one of the big weaknesses which is the two drops that are just dead on board until you cast more spells

The Orzhov cats deck I played was great against mill, but that's only because it ran mainboard disenchants and that hits basically every deck in the format, especially mill running Drowned Secrets.

    *rubs temples*

You ever mill a guy down to one card

And see that he has lethal on board his next turn

And then he plays a card that draws him one card

And you sit goggle eyed at what just happened

Was having a hard time getting the last Cascade win (so many Pelt Collectors), so I put together a UG flash deck specialized to make someone concede quickly.

Turn 1: Once->Goose, Forest, Goose; (opponent played a Goose)
Turn 2: Forest, Pass, their turn, they played Oko, I went Nightpack Ambusher->Brazen Borrower, bounce their Oko
    Concede. Success!

Been playing an Orzhov 'put the opponent's deck in the bin' Kaya deck in gold ranked standard.
It's slow all the time, but then you get to Despark an Embercleave.

I knew it was absurdly powerful. Just missed Modern for Standard (true fact, I can still see it getting banned in Modern if this mono green devotion deck keeps posting results). LSV has called for it's banning in all formats.

I think I'm going to start putting spyglass in basically all my sideboards now. Cat decks are going to be very popular.

    So sultai cat deck.

Dropping Oko and going golgari cat deck but still focusing on the control style, think it will still be good?

It really felt like an oko using deck where if you didn't get oko it was never a big deal and the deck still did it's job.

So I'm hoping it sticks around like that. Was a strong meta deck that was fun for me and a style that I like.

And man dropping a big massacre girl feels so damn good.

I think the decks that had oko will still be strong, just not close to unbeatable.

Like sultai, temur, and bant ramp are all still just fine.

I'm thinking of replacing my OUAT with red leylines to combat against cat's and dance decks.

A good question to ask yourself going forward might be, "Can my deck answer 1drop, 2drop, 3drop, Embercleave on the play?"

Another might be, "do I scoop to Mass Manipulation?"

I have found Tibalt to have surprising game against Cauldron Familiar strategies. It looks super jank on paper, and maybe it is- but in practice there is a lot of incidental life gain floating around and Tibalt stuffs it, deploys a chump blocker or two, and sometimes comes with a free Shock for no reason. It's pretty good rate.

Fires had a pretty favorable match up against oko decks, oko being gone isn't going to lead to more fires. If anything there will be less fires.

I think the loss of OUAT is even bigger than oko since it hits such a large portion of the decks that could be good without oko. Adventure decks can't fish for inn keeper/one drop adventure. Golgari cat decks can't fish for goose/cat/wolf. Gruul can't fish for pelt collector etc.

Without oko we'd still see a lot of goose in the format. Without OUAT though...?
