    The times I went through the doors, the process was pretty painless and quick, but I do have to admit that knowing that I would have to go through the checks every time made me a lot less motivated to pop in for an hour or two between panels like I would do in previous years. This had the direct effect of me not visiting the exhibition halls very much at all this year.

    This is something that can’t be ignored. I do think that in general the checks were pretty efficient (this doesn’t mean I think they were necessary or effective). But knowing that checkpoints will be involved influences attendee behavior, and some people including myself definitely reduced our trips through the door. So while the lines may have been short enough, it still came at a cost. Had everybody just done their usual, the lines would have been longer.
