Kathy Rain is a point and click adventure from the same people as Whispers of the Machine (which I decided to play while waiting for the latter to go on sale), set in a small US town in the 90's. The titular protagonist returns for the funeral of her grandfather, and, well, Things are afoot. It evokes a Twin Peaks vibe, I assume deliberately, as Kathy wanders around, getting to know the weird (and sometimes malevolent) members of the community, and trying to work out what hapopenned to her grandfather a decade ago - and what's happened to some of the town's other inhabitants since.
It nails the aesthetic, both in and out of play. That 90's pixel graphic style is right there, but it works given the period the game's set in. There's a few clunky moon-logic puzzles, but they largely work on their own terms. I think I had to hit up a guide for a handful puzzles over the course of an eight hour playtime, and most of those were just me knowing what to do but not quite sure how to do it. The narrative is clean and clear - though the central mystery is nicely obfuscated. There's some solid characterisation (I wanted a bit more, but it's perfectly serviceable) and the story beats maintain tension well enough. The dialogue is well voicd and snappy.
If you like this sort of thing, it's probably worth picking up in a bundle or on sale; maybe a bit short for full price, given the glut of choice these days.
I liked Kathy Rain more than Whispers of a Machine. Mostly because I like Kathy more than Vera and because Whispers kind of botches its big moral question. Although I did like Whisper's setting better than Kathy's.
Still, I liked them both enough that I replayed both games enough to get all the Achievements.
Half the time spoilers in this thread are just jokes. Since I could not determine the game, I thought it was some title I didn't care about and wanted to see the joke.
More importantly, take better care to mark legitimate spoilers in a catch-all thread. It shouldn't be that onerous of a request.
The name of the game was abbreviated in the quote they were replying to, there was no indication from that post or the reply that someone was making a joke, there was plenty of context before to come up with a game, and the spoiler tag was prefaced with "by the end of the game..."
If AC:Odd is too much to deal with, and ass is important to include, try AssOdd. Capital letters are good things.
More importantly then, if you weren't sure what game they were talking about, why did you click the spoiler?

They did mark the spoiler. They marked it with a spoiler tag. And the game was named in the post.
I played a bit of AssOdd when it was free with the Stadia beta (Google Stream, as it was called). Then they gave everybody a copy to keep for trying it, but I haven't gone back yet.
I just woke up but urban fantasy 1st person shooter or a 3rd person shooter featuring a level where you fight a demonicly enhanced Bismarck and have to astral project from your ship to their ship and blow up shiny things to weaken battleship
Finally gave DUSK a try, this game is pretty darn good. They are not fucking around on the atmosphere. It's like if RE4 was a hardcore retro FPS. I do recommend playing on Hard mode though.
Open Steam, scroll down, community reccomendation is "Breeders of the Nephlym". What. The. Fuck. (literally) If I click it, it comes up and says this is like nothing in my library (no shit) so uh why even show it to me? I get it's a community thing, but seriously.

Isn't that the one that bases the results on your Google search history?

No, this is "EXPERIMENT 006 COMMUNITY RECOMMENDATIONS". This appears to be based on the number of recent reviews, which seems to make it vulnerable for a meme game to end up on the top. In this case, there are 10 reviews in the last day, presumably because <eyebrows>, but also because it's free.
Something that's starting to make the game click for me is treat it like a Rouge, not a rougelike. Resoruces a re scare. Tricekry is possible. backtracking is possible. Use the game's structure to your advantage. Rushing the first two levels to get perks and a halfway okay wand, then escaping out the side and backtracking up to the top goes a long way. There's still some serious give this a balance pass all over the place issues, as well as... i guess communication issues with the game, in that it's bad at communicating strategies.
I'm also not sure i like how quickly things can go from Fine to Dead, but at least it's often hilariously funny when it happens. And i did at least get to inflict a really cool death on an enemy where i used my tentacle wand to grab his lava flask out of the air, slam it into the water pol he was standing in, and cause a fountain of obsidian to encase him, leaving him to suffocate brutally.
Also, new The Intergalatic Cantaloupe post coming soon. The mysterious of SPOM shall be revealed.
If you post in this thread, i totally will name dupes after you. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. (Side note, if you dislike me naming a dupe after you, please just @Me and i can change it - goal is fun and good camaraderie, not being a goose!)
Spent the past week in Florida with no mobile data save for whichever local Wi-Fi I could leech from. Came back home this week to discover that Stellaris is about to have more content added to it, so I will continue to be lost to the world in that, I guess.
Have a couple'a pictures from my travels, spoilers for big:
Me and Corr. I had originally planned to get a haircut right before flying out, only for my regular barber to have a hospital emergency on that day. Selfish git.
Here's Corr sitting in my rental with my sunglasses because why not
Proof that I finally got my hair sorted out (kind of) - I was helping out with my friend Sophie's new store launch for a lot of my vacation, because fuck lawyers and their delays causing chaos for peoples' vacation timelines.

But now it isn't and I'm confused

If you enjoy the gameplay is massive value for money even at full price.
Depends how much time you spend trying to decipher what Socrates is trying to tell you.
My Kassandra I think would have very little time for his musings, so no I guess haha

I wasn't trying to be dick with the spelling.
I just got sick of auto correct messing up on my phone and left it as is.

Let me know when Diogenes is in the game, though it may be the wrong time period I think

Wrong time. Diogenes missed out on the Peloponnesian War by a few years.
As if historical accuracy is enough to stop Diogenes.
Or Ubisoft.
