My parents are in the US for their "escape canada's winter" thing, and I really wish they weren't.
My mom (60) and my grandfather (85) are in Florida. They were originally going to stay until April 4th but yesterday they finally changed their flights. Mom is coming back March 22nd and my grandfather is coming back March 29th. I’m especially worried for my grandfather. Two weeks is a long time and who knows what will happen in that amount of time.
Looking at the numbers today is what convinced me not to take my son to the office with me tomorrow. I really would like them to get their work from home shit sorted out, but in the meantime I guess I’ll be trading half-days with my girlfriend. I also had a phone convo with my dad who’s on day 2 of quarantine after coming back from Mexico, and he’s fine so far.
Having two very young kids at home for 2 weeks while trying to work is gonna be a challenge.
It deserves saying that I feel very conflicted by how much Legault is nailing this so far
Because he’s also calling for a complete border shutdown and I’m not down with that, but he’s only gonna get more and more popular and more people are gonna agree with that...

Yeah, but the government is still going ahead with permitting landlords to evict people for not paying rent, and with many workplaces not uh, working, many people aren't touching a paycheck right now, so I don't know how long that popularity is gonna last.

I gotta say, I was in an absolute goddamn panic on Friday because of this. I had been in Kelowna for training and the flight home I was on was delayed due to a GODDAMN MECHANICAL PROBLEM THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DISCOVERED BEFORE THEY GOT US ALL ON THE FUCKING PLANE...
Ahem.
We drove the eight hours home in a rental. I just now realized my anger was an expression of fear.
I get to try out telework tomorrow for the first time. Should be interesting.

Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!

Yeah that’s definitely a sticking point to keep hammering on (and QS is particularly on the case), but at this point I’m seeing even NDP politicians praising him. With good reason, is the fucked up part! Worst person I know making good points and everything!
I’m still never in a million years gonna vote for him, but he’s already way popular to the TVA/JdM crowd, and this crisis is only gonna put more wind in his sails. His base won’t care about rents and evictions.

I'm going to miss going to my gym. And my bar Apparently the pub I go to qualifies as a restaurant first, so it gets to stay open. And the cinema.

Schools are now closed in Alberta "until further notice", and in Calgary there's a local state of emergency, which means: (quoting from here)
The declaration means city-run facilities in Calgary, including recreation centres and libraries, will be ordered to close. Businesses including bars and restaurants will also be required to keep their capacity to either less than half their capacity under fire code or fewer than 250 people, whichever is lower.
Grocery stores, public transit, airports, shopping centres, pharmacies, big-box commercial retail, office buildings, shelters and care centres are exempt from the restrictions.
up to $900 a fortnight in EI payments for folks who don't usually qualify for EI (self employed, workers without paid sick leave, workers who have to skip work to care for children or those who are sick)
Increased Child Benefit payments
Extra GST rebate payments to low/moderate income families
waving wait period and doctors note requirements for EI payments
extending the income tax filing deadline for both individuals an businesses
subsidizing wages for small businesses
encouraging/incentivising lenders to defer mortgage payments
6 month interest free moratorium on student loan payments
Providing money directly to indigenous communities to "address immediate needs"
Giving $50 million to womens shelters and sexual assault centers to help people who are facing being quarantined with an abuser
a bunch of extra money to programs housing the homeless
provide lines of credit and offer more support to businesses
Rent relief would be nice, since renters are more financially unstable than folks with mortgages, but rent relief is much harder to do tbf. It would be nice to encourage landlords to not charge rent, or lower it during the crisis with a government rebate or whatever. Instead, the landlords are getting relief on their mortgage payments, while the people actually living in the houses with the mortgages are getting no relief. Not even a ban on evictions.
I'm hopeful that they'll be able to persuade this stuff to come through given that the Liberals have put a huge asterisk beside "this is only the beginning", but with the Conservatives delaying to protect our God-given right to not have minor tax adjustments, we'll see
i mentioned this on my tweetzone for those of you that follow me but one thing that's been kind of exhausting on a personal level around all this discussion of Workers and Self-Employment and Labour is that i know they don't mean me. i'm fortunate enough to have a fairly unique job, being that i write erotica for money, but i know that's not the self-employment they mean. i know they're gonna say "you're doing that at home nothing is disrupted in your ability to work!" even though it's going to be disruptive to sales.
i'm glad for every amount that goes out into the country and i'm super happy that movement is happening to get my friends and family money but there's definitely something a bit alienating about the experience right now and it's a weird headspace

Are you Chuck Tingle? Blink twice if you're Chuck Tingle.
Extremely grateful for that monthly 2K right now considering my girlfriend just applied for UI Monday. I hope it’s sent out quickly and without having to jump through too many hoops.

things are not looking too hot.
yes, but only if you add the CBD oil to a mixture of equal parts colloidal silver solution and bleach
and then you’ve got to put it up your butt
I guess we have an issue with bots peddling snake oil?

Even the Ottawa airport has a 3 hour wait at customs right now, and the space to disembark is not exactly spacious
I'm thankful I get to "work from home", though that basically means checking my e-mail three times a day or so, and playing a ton of Switch games

And apparently some Major Canadian insurance companies won’t cover coronavirus treatment for travellers to ‘high-risk’ countries.
USA not currently on this list, but given their growth trend they very well could be.
I really want my parents out of the USA.

This is good, but still allowing flights from USA, Mexico and Carribean in is riling some feathers.
I also talked to my parents and they're driving back to Canada starting tomorrow which is a huge relief.
Most notably, someone is hoarding the Cheez-Its.
There were only two boxes of Spicy Cheez-Its left.
Whoever could have predicted this

I cannot imagine that Air Canada is far behind on this.
Federal financial assistance plan just dropped.

Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
got a feeling we'll have a minority conservative government by the end of the year, here
main question is, is the opposition no-confidencing or is Trudeau gonna resign first
I appreciate that they cite how other countries have done it at the end of the post as well

It's nice they're donating them.
Otherwise they'd cost $800 each.
