    What's the 2k monthly from?

Trudeau announced today that there is a new addition to EI payments. For the next 4 months, people who apply for EI because of loss of work or income from the virus get an additional $2,000 per month on top of the normal EI payments.

It's federal money, so city hall won't help much

also I assume the money goes on EI checks so you gotta apply for those if you haven't yet, I hear the system is really backed up so apply fast

Quebec Solidaire is calling for an Universal Emergency Income for Quebecers.

There's a 2000$ amount floating about, but I'm not sure if it's monthly or not.

Yeah the amount I heard is 2000 per adult, 250 per child, no conditions, everyone

would be surprised to see the CAQ go for this but it's crazy times so who knows

If you signed up for the emergency benefit, check your account. Both my girlfriend and mom got their first 2000 today.

Do the rules say we all need to leave the house at the end? If not I’m choosing house four, no further questions will be answered at this time.

If unfortunate accidents are off the table I’m taking house two, I would love to see Goldy try to keep her cool when faced with the Human Serviette.

Definitely House 2. We can always lock Faith Goldy in a closet.

I also like Justin Ling a lot and Robyn Urback has good Toronto Real Estate posts so that was my initial choice

But someone pointed out Goldy and Nardwuar in the same house is the ultimate chaotic evil vs chaotic good and that would at least be entertaining

Here’s an AMA video that Kenny and Spence did that kinda goes beyond the friendly rivalry they had in the show to what looks like genuine hatred between the two. I only made it a minute or so until I had to stop watching.

fyi @Dixon if your hours were cut or you have otherwise "lost income" because of the virus, you can claim. You do not have to have lost the entirety of your income.

I don't think so, at least not yet - when they announced a 25% hours reduction for my position last week I looked really hard and all the stuff I could find specifically said lost job or hours reduced to 0.

That said, Trudeau said this on Monday:
The CERB is meant to help all Canadians who need it, and millions of Canadians will be getting it, starting this week. But there are some people who don’t yet qualify who we do need to help. If you’re working reduced hours, down to 10 hours a week or less, we will soon announce how you will be able to qualify for the CERB. This is to help you if you’re a gig worker, a contract worker or a volunteer firefighter. We’ll also have more to say for those who are working but making less than they would with the benefit. I’m thinking in particular of home-care workers or long-term care workers looking after vulnerable seniors.

    so soon, hopefully

Yeah I'm overall really not a fan of how much means testing there still is in the CERB. It's filled with "Can't REWARD people for NOT WORKING!!!" welfare fears.

I've been holding out hope for that NDP proposal of 2k a person regardless of means but yeah

I can understand if they were trying to phase into using the CERB to keep systems from being overloaded but it is frustrating to see folks like my friend who is a retail worker/music teacher be ineligible at the jump due to keeping 10 hours of the latter and being laid off from the former
