Glancing through his platform, hope we're all excited to end the blood ban, which bans no one the platform is willing to name (hint: the gays), fight climate change with more oil, allow doctors to not do procedures they disagree with on basis of religion (read: abortion and HRT), and carve off social programs to give the money to churches who will use it better
I can't see any of that achieving any success on a national stage, I would be unhappy to be proven wrong, but based on our reaction to Scheer I would hope Scheer++ would not achieve much
Environment Canada's weather alerts around here are typically "risk of thunderstorm" or, this summer, "heat alert" on the hottest days. This time it's very very seasonally specific:
The NDP will form a historic majority government in British Columbia for the first time in more than 20 years, CBC News projects, as voters opted to stay the course in a tumultuous year and send Leader John Horgan back to the legislature as the only consecutive two-term premier in his party's history.
Horgan and the party are projected to take 55 of B.C.'s 87 ridings as of 11:30 p.m PT on Saturday, compared to 29 for the Liberals and three for the Green Party.
It will be the first NDP majority since 1996
Great news imo. The BC Liberals are fucking piss babies
our premier is back on his "there's no systemic racism" bullshit come baaaaccck
Meanwhile our premier is continuing to keep class sizes at 30 students and closing all gyms but keeping dance studios open because?? It's starting to feel like our actual premier is a dart board covered in random pandemic restrictions.
Congratulations to us for breaking the 1000 case a day mark though, what a proud moment for Ontario (though by all accounts we have actually been there for a while, due to the increased restrictions on who can get a test)
I hope that things improve so that PEI doesn't ban me from visiting my parents for christmas.
I hate to say it but if you are in Ontario, you might want to start planning around that now. There is uncontrolled spread going on.
Unfortunately I'm in Quebec, which is surprisingly even worse -_-
Is there any chance you have enough vacation time or can work remotely enough to have two weeks to isolate on arrival? That's what my dad had to do when he came to NS this summer from Toronto (and will be doing again when he moves home for good in November)
Ugh really? I assumed nobody could be handling it worse than Ford is.
Outside of the US that is.
Quebec has consistently been about %10 to %20ish worse off than Ontario throughout covid.
Our really big problem was that covid was allowed to run rampant through nursing and special care homes for weeks/months.

Yeah being able to isolate on arrival is fine for me, and there is a family reunification plan in place by the PEI gov't, I just hope they don't take that away and have no admittance allowed like in the spring.

Quebec has been #1... of the worst, in North America, for a while now. We had more cases per capita than the US until recently when we once again started to slow back down while the US is showing no signs of reigning in their skyrocketing.
Right now we're at code red in several regions and yet somehow we're still more open than we were in the spring. Our government is showing its conservative roots by being basically on team "everything* will stay open and it's YOUR fault if you spread it" for wave 2.
A small amount of bitter satisfaction at how Montreal has once again flattened its curve while Quebec City, ground zero for the crazies, is continuing its climb and the authorities have basically said "we can't pinpoint the virus in the city anymore, it's just everywhere"
Meanwhile, here in Manitoba, we have the second highest number of cases per capita. People were too busy patting themselves on the back for being lucky in the spring (we did well because who the fuck wants to visit Manitoba?). My wife hasn't seen most of her family for the last year and a half (they live in Alberta) and she's getting depressed at the possibility of not seeing them this winter.

yeah, this summer was a big wakeup call for my dad. He and my stepmom had been planning to retire to NS in a few years, but having to spend two weeks in a rented apartment to be able to visit family (not to mention the anxiety of living in the middle of Toronto during all this) had them rethink things. My nephew (their only grandkid) is just over a year old, and my stepmom's mother is getting older and not being able to easily visit either really bothered them I think.
So now their condo is sold, they have a place rented for mid-november, and will be done isolating with plenty of time for christmas.
This is the only thread that might have someone who will understand the near acid level flashback Amazon Prime just gave me. Kevin Spencer is on there, and just hearing the theme song from hovering over the icon sent me hard to 1999 rofl. Gonna see if holds up.
That's definitely a show I completely made myself forget existed
Ya , like I 'm getting more flashbacks of just 1999 era in general than of the show itself, like, just a forgotten time is suddenly flooding back, all thanks to a low budget flash animation canadian cartoon.
Edit: Just chuckling too at how haphazard Comedy Network was at the start too, basically 90% Just For Laughs reruns, and then whatever else they could get
I watched a lot of weird and questionable and outright bad shows.
DUDE, that was such a nostalgia dump I think it may have broken me. I sometimes hum the Angela Anaconda theme and I completely forgot where I originally heard it.
Between you and me, Peggy, I smoked this Juul and it did UNTHINKABLE things to my mind and body...

Oh man, just got Flashback-ceptioned by an episode of Kevin Spencer, I have an even more forgotten name, beware Canadians over 30, clicking this spoiler is gonna open some doors, good or bad.

I’ve had a couple conversations recently about my reluctance to watch popular Canadian shows like Lexx back in the day, or Schitt’s Creek more recently because I can never shake the feeling that they’re not *really* good, just good “for Canadian tv”
The spoilered show is the absolute epitome of mediocre (at best) content held up as something to celebrate not because it’s actually good, but it’s what we’ve got at the time
When the French-language sci-fi channel ZTV started in the late 90s they had a lineup full of classics, all the Treks, X-Files, Stargate, Farscape, Quantum Leap, Sliders, Outer Limits even shit like Space 1999 and original BSG
and fucking Lexx
I remember just watching that channel and getting to Lexx and going okay surely this holds up to those other shows somehow to be in such distinguished company

Wear a mask while having sex with someone new, Canada's top doctor suggests
Do I still have to wear a mask if I'm using a government approved glory hole?
Well now this entirely depends on the ventilation in the room(s) and whether or not you're in the same bubble and- wait, come back

Which, I guess, fair enough, but somehow I sort of expected a less subjective way of phrasing it.
