"Ma, Pa, I've been eagerly anticipating your deaths for awhile now and I would love to have a rock solid excuse to not be around when it happens so I got you these one way plane tickets to the fuckin tamiami trail"
Well, I mean, people in general, but rich people are the ones that go to Florida.
CTV has played a few sob stories on the local news about snowbirds having to stay home for the winter instead of going to their international second home and I didn't catch a lot of the details since I tend to spend most of the segment going FUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUU
Ya Snowbirds ( not the plane team, they are neat) have been awful long before there was a pandemic. The pandemic just added another way for them to be selfish assholes.
CBC has an article about how to handle masks in winter weather (spoiler alert: keep several handy, maybe add a scarf), but it also highlights the ways some cities are adding to their outdoor options to support outdoor activities! Calgary especially has a cool sounding skate track they're putting together!
Nephew's kindergarten class just got notified they have to all go into isolation due to a positive case. Second time this has happened to his class.
See, Ontario's strategy here was to drastically limit what symptoms merited a test, and therefore tadaaaa, no schools have to close; you can see in the charts a DRASTIC increase in cases in school kids and then it suddenly evened out to match the other age groups
They've only just started increasing them back up now from what I've read, it's all due to how they didn't invest fucking *anything* into the labs until September despite having the whole summer to do so
12% of all BC's Covid deaths have occurred in December. That's 4 days for anyone keeping count.
That's gonna be a fuckin yikes from me, dog.
Double yikes with schools still going full swing and the fucking ski hills being open and packed
*makes a meaningful glance at Lake Louise*
We went to Canada Olympic Park on Friday, and it was pretty decent for spacing -- they're only selling seasons passes, no walk-up tickets, you have to pre-book a time to go to the hill and there's a limited number of those spots as well, so it felt okay as far as ability to stay away from people goes. The lines for the chairs weren't ideal, but there's only so close you can get without standing on someone else's skis/board. The interior of the buildings is basically closed off, "your car is the ski lodge, bring your own thermos of hot chocolate" is the way they're putting it, though I think first aid / washrooms are probably still inside.
Downsides: the snow quality was _pretty bad_, it's been warm recently and snow making only goes so far when it's +12. Also, my goggles/glasses fog up enough already, but COP is enforcing mask wearing everywhere, including outside, and that did not help with fogging-up.
*sigh* Erin O’Toole is gonna ride a Quebec wave to a minority government
Source?
My gut feeling as a Quebecois
Looking up actual polls has the parties stay where they are with outcomes comparable to the last election but it just
feels right in my gut that my province is gonna go "oh, a charismatic racist who plays nice with us, we love that".
Erin O'Toole is charismatic?
Compared to Scheer or Harper? He’s like if Tony Stark had a baby with Grogu.
I don't see him ever being PM.
It feels like he leans too deep into Vaguely Racist Sleezy Car Salesman to really pull it off, especially against two of the more charismatic leaders we have had in a while in Trudeau and Singh
I would have been more worried about Mackay, who at least could pretend to be a Respectable Old White Guy Who Is Just Asking Questions on occasion

Also, and this is completely shallow, but I don't think he has a winning appearance. This shouldn't matter, but it does.
The Alberta government will order the closure of all casinos and gyms, ban dine-in service at restaurants and bars, and impose a mandatory province-wide mask rule under new restrictions aimed at curbing the province's soaring COVID-19 infection rates, a leaked internal government document obtained by CBC News shows.
The province will also ban all outdoor and indoor social gatherings, and impose mandatory work-from-home measures, the document says.

better late than never but that's what NS did back in fucking March
and Kenney will never believe, never acknowledge that he could have done more, could have saved lives
I mean we had something like this back in March as well, it's just that UCP managed to huff enough of their own farts to convince themselves that the thing that worked the first time wasn't what was needed the second time

that's even more infuriating! There's times I'm sorry I'm an atheist because it means I don't believe there will ever be a reckoning for these ghouls, now or later

Look, just because most of the universe doesn't care about reckoning these ghouls doesn't mean we humans don't.
What I'm saying is... get yourself a few thousand bereaved family members, a few lawyers, and bam! You've got yourself a class-action lawsuit. Or... major criminal negligence charges, I'm not sure.

I mean why...why are you closing the land border and then leaving the giant loophole open. This is ridiculous.
Also uh especially how're the Albertans, I'm a bit worried for y'all

Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
Reeling from the multiple confirmations that the economy is more valuable then human life
I deduced that a while ago but it's pretty wild to have such a blatant display, at least at home and no one seems all that bothered round here
It's rendered me just enjoying my days instead of chasing infinite productivity which I can't do any ways
I'm thankful to be in PEI though. Still got three days of self isolation left before we can go out though.

Anyways, looks like we may actually be getting some significant restrictions.
