CTV has played a few sob stories on the local news about snowbirds having to stay home for the winter instead of going to their international second home and I didn't catch a lot of the details since I tend to spend most of the segment going FUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUU

Ya Snowbirds ( not the plane team, they are neat) have been awful long before there was a pandemic. The pandemic just added another way for them to be selfish assholes.

12% of all BC's Covid deaths have occurred in December. That's 4 days for anyone keeping count.

That's gonna be a fuckin yikes from me, dog.

Reeling from the multiple confirmations that the economy is more valuable then human life

I deduced that a while ago but it's pretty wild to have such a blatant display, at least at home and no one seems all that bothered round here

Quebec officially cancelled all holiday gatherings, which is good.

I'm thankful to be in PEI though. Still got three days of self isolation left before we can go out though.

CBC has an article about how to handle masks in winter weather (spoiler alert: keep several handy, maybe add a scarf), but it also highlights the ways some cities are adding to their outdoor options to support outdoor activities! Calgary especially has a cool sounding skate track they're putting together!

See, Ontario's strategy here was to drastically limit what symptoms merited a test, and therefore tadaaaa, no schools have to close; you can see in the charts a DRASTIC increase in cases in school kids and then it suddenly evened out to match the other age groups

They've only just started increasing them back up now from what I've read, it's all due to how they didn't invest fucking *anything* into the labs until September despite having the whole summer to do so

We went to Canada Olympic Park on Friday, and it was pretty decent for spacing -- they're only selling seasons passes, no walk-up tickets, you have to pre-book a time to go to the hill and there's a limited number of those spots as well, so it felt okay as far as ability to stay away from people goes. The lines for the chairs weren't ideal, but there's only so close you can get without standing on someone else's skis/board. The interior of the buildings is basically closed off, "your car is the ski lodge, bring your own thermos of hot chocolate" is the way they're putting it, though I think first aid / washrooms are probably still inside.

Downsides: the snow quality was _pretty bad_, it's been warm recently and snow making only goes so far when it's +12. Also, my goggles/glasses fog up enough already, but COP is enforcing mask wearing everywhere, including outside, and that did not help with fogging-up.

The Alberta government will order the closure of all casinos and gyms, ban dine-in service at restaurants and bars, and impose a mandatory province-wide mask rule under new restrictions aimed at curbing the province's soaring COVID-19 infection rates, a leaked internal government document obtained by CBC News shows.

The province will also ban all outdoor and indoor social gatherings, and impose mandatory work-from-home measures, the document says.

Look, just because most of the universe doesn't care about reckoning these ghouls doesn't mean we humans don't.

What I'm saying is... get yourself a few thousand bereaved family members, a few lawyers, and bam! You've got yourself a class-action lawsuit. Or... major criminal negligence charges, I'm not sure.
