So many under cover pigs out getting free fine money

Which like fun oppression from the capitalists we got going on her, the economy's more important then civilian life's and now because they've pretended to care about public health but not since all business is still open there gonna take money from citizens that goes never bothered giving us before

What a fucking joke Jesus Christ

I ain't got a problem with lock down aside from the fact it's way to late and is clearly only so the government can pretend they did all they could during a pandemic where they did fuck all

The Ontario government's own fucking modelling table, on the same day as announcing the new restrictions, said without social supports it was unlikely that numbers were going to improve

It should have been really obvious that overpowering was not going to solve our problems

Oh hey, I've posted about it in the BLM thread but not here - if you're looking for a good leftist Canadian newsletter/news site, Passage has been pretty great after starting out last year. They're putting funding towards classes on socialist/leftist policy, and also have a daily newsletter that has some good news briefs

Today's had a focus on how the Liberals' means testing fuckup over people applying with their net income assuming it meant their gross income, and how despite saying people shouldn't worry about repaying it that the CRA is cracking down on repayments now

    https://readpassage.com/p/no-mercy-for-erroneous-cerb-applicants/?utm_source=drip&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Passage+Daily+-+Free+-+January+14,+2021&utm_content=🍁+No+CERB+Mercy

Apparently there is a Green Party bill to try and make it so people who applied with their gross income can avoid the repayments, but whether or not it'll pass...

Anyway, Passage is good, I recommend 'em

BC's Provincial Health Officer (and quarantine sweetheart) Dr Bonnie Henry outlined BC's official vaccination timeline today
    https://bc.ctvnews.ca/covid-19-vaccines-here-s-b-c-s-full-immunization-timeline-through-september-1.5277925

    Phase 2, February - March:
    • "Community-based" seniors who are at least 80 years old and Indigenous seniors who are at least 65 years old (approximately 260,000 people)
    • People who are homeless or living in a shelter, provincial correctional facility, group home or mental health residential care (approximately 40,000 people)
    • Long-term home support recipients and staff (approximately 60,000 people)
    • Hospital staff, community doctors and medical specialists (approximately 20,000 people)
    • First Nations communities (approximately 25,000 people)

    Phase 3, April - June
    • Anyone aged 79 to 70 can get their first dose in April and their second dose in May.
    • Anyone aged 69 to 65 can get their first dose in May and their second dose in June.
    • Anyone aged 64 to 60 can get their first dose in June and their second dose in July.
    • Anyone aged 79 to 16 who is considered "clinically extremely vulnerable" can get their doses between April and June.

    Phase 4, July - September
    • Anyone aged 59 to 40 can get their first dose in July and their second dose in August.
    • Anyone aged 39 to 35 can get their first dose in July or August and their second dose in August or September.
    • Anyone aged 34 to 30 can get their first dose in August and their second dose in September.
    • Anyone aged 29 to 25 can get their first dose in August or September and their second dose in September.
    • Anyone aged 24 to 18 can get their first and second doses in September.

This is BC only but I wouldn't be surprised if other Provinces had similar plans.
Also this list is assuming only the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are used.
The Astrazenica vaccine has been approved for use in the UK but not here yet. That one only needs to be stored at fridge temperatures so that helps with distribution, but it's a Live Attenuated vaccine, not MRNA like the other two, and also current data shows it's less effective (only about 70%).
Also the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has released safety data and plans on releasing efficacy data in the next couple of weeks, and that one only needs ONE DOSE. So if those two are approved timelines might speed up significantly.

Since this post, Astrazenica vaccine was approved in Canada. We got our first shipment of it today! It seems like Health Canada is recommending, and some provinces will follow, targeting the AZ vaccine to people under 65 such as essential workers.

We need to get on approving the Johnson and Johnson vaccine that the US has approved as well. The Americans are saying they will vaccinate all their folks by the end of May, so hopefully they'll start exporting some vaccine doses after that.

Nova Scotia said it’s lifting or altering restrictions currently in place for Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) due to low COVID-19 cases. The premier also announced that Nova Scotians will now be able to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of June.

    It really depends

The biggest problem they've had is scale-up, but if the US really does end up with enough vaccine for their people by the end of May, we may see them being sent up here in bigger numbers shortly after

On top of that, there's some expectation we'll see them coming in in April and May based on what CBC News is reporting right now

It isn't an immediate speed increase but it's good news, because with the current single shot plus 4 month pause regimen, everyone should likely have their first shot by Canada Day, and those shots getting added in would speed up the second shot for those who got a double dose style

Hey has anyone in this thread gone through or knows about the citizenship process?

Since my wife got fired we're considering our options and one of them is moving back to Australia. But I want to get my citizenship before we do to make it easier to come back in the future.

I know about the application process and fee and about that it's a 12 month process... I don't know I'm looking for personal insight I guess.

I'm just starting the process #p!

It seems to be way less complicated than getting my PR, but there's still a bunch of paperwork to do

A good friend went through it at the beginning of the pandemic and other than some shenanigans about scheduling the citizenship test said it was pretty easy

I'm thinking one of the biggest barriers to the test would be language proficiency, but it's good to hear it's ok.

The ~$700 application fee is kind of a kick in the pants though

My wife applied for and got her PR on her own, and she just applied for her citizenship! We mailed the forms end of November, and got the confirmation e-mail 2nd of March that her application is in and was very explicit on the "Don't call us, we'll call you" aspect of it. If you need to chat, my inbox is open. The fee fucking sucks, yes.

No worries, the offer stands. If you have questions about the process or forms, I'd be happy to have a look with you. IANAL, but the citizenship application was comically simple compared to PR, and once wifey is further in the process I can comment more on her experience there too.

The sewage testing was actually one of the world's first here! Ottawa has some really great health care research in town. Been keeping an eye on those charts but my family is about as locked down as we can be anyway, aside from my Dad doing very rare dog visits one-on-one outside, which he's gonna dial back when it gets any higher
