It's nice to skip every once in a while, a light cold is a nice excuse.
"What friends?" in my case. All I had were people who were willing to let me be around them for brief periods during school. Which I guess hasn't changed much since.

It’s wild to me when people say they like school because high school was basically me crying every single day and wishing I would just die quietly during the night

I do not have a single happy memory from my high school days and it took me over a decade to get over the residual trauma

I largely do not miss high school

except for having more time for videogames, that was cool

High school was four years of me having a massive chip on my shoulder I couldn't identify but was pretty sure was everyone else's problem (and they definitely sucked, but I also very much definitely sucked

I was (am still am to a large degree) extremely lazy. Staying home was so nice. I tended not to too much, but there were days when I just wanted to stay home. I wouldn;t mind laying in bed sleeping all day sometimes.

If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing

Like I don't keep in touch with basically anyone I knew from high school

Most of them were varying varieties of asshole, and yeah, granted, high school boys, but I was typically the one targeted by their assholery because I was the easiest target

I tried getting in touch with a high school friend a few years back to hang out and play boardgames, and dude totally just ghosted me

so essentially fuck them, I guess, the internet has provided better friends for me than high school did

High school was okay. Better than elementary by far. If that had gone any differently I might have ended up as a patient in my current workplace rather than an employee.

I got swole in my 2nd year of high school so I went from the nerdy fat kid everyone picked on to actually getting attention from girls and people wanted to be my friend because I was also funny and fairly smart

Before that I hated school and I looked for any way to get out of it. It was awful.

Senior year of high school was okay for me since I finally got over (some of) my awkwardness and was relatively functional.

    Still not worth it.

But turbofuck the friend I had who when he found out I liked a girl told another friend who liked the same girl and then taunted me that they were getting together

Mine is the reverse: I was actually fairly popular in elementary school, then less so after middle school (not at all helped by my "born again Christian" phase, which smacked right into my "puberty" phase), and by high school I had marooned myself on the isle of misfit toys (in my head if not exactly in reality)

It probably helps that I seem to have either forgotten or repressed, don't care which, most memories of elementary. Case in point, someone once approached me at college from that time period and apologized for how they'd treated me.

I didn't recognize them at all, because they'd just been one of so many

I faked being sick so much as a kid my mom brought me to all these specialists and was super frustrated when no one could find anything wrong. I've never told her that I just hated school.

When I was actually into going to community college (mainly when I was taking legal classes because I'm a nerd) I really enjoyed it

other times... Well, it was still enjoyable to skip class.

In both middle school and high school I ended up in classes with several people as nerdy as myself, so things worked out.

Though I do wonder where I'd have ended up if I didn't meet my best friend in middle school.

Except the time in 8th grade when I got pneumonia and had to miss a whole week, and had to sleep sitting up, and had to take a bunch of antibiotics

Then towards the end of the year I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and had to miss another week in the hospital

Yeah, 8th grade was a trip

Almost ditto. Staying home sick from school now reminds of when I had a stomach flu that turned out to be me getting type 1 diabetes, going into a coma, and almost dying.
Didn't stop me from taking sick a fair amount in high school and just staying home.

I skipped a metric shit ton of school my senior year of high school. Though paradoxically for the nerdiest reason.

I had wrapped up every requirement to graduate by that point, but they decided not to let me graduate early. But our rural school had so few classes that it meant I had to sit in on classes I had already taken. So I just didn’t show up a lot.

We use to have a camper we towed around to campgrounds. It sat in the driveway. I would sometimes hide in it when my parents sent me to the bus until they left for work and then sneak back inside

My sophomore and junior year, my dad had a live-in girlfriend with her teenage son that went to the same high school. He misbehaved a lot and ditched class a lot. Whenever a student didn't show up to a class, you'd get a robocall at the designated phone number that said, "Hello, one or more of your students did not attend one or more classes today." I started ditching like, a day a week toward the end of my year, and Ron got all of the blame for it because I was such a good boy who never ditched (I was ditching because my girlfriend was a senior and she graduated in December and I was up to absolutely no good). In retrospect, I should perhaps feel bad about it, but I don't at all.

    School was great.

I was made fun of one time when i was walking around with my sweater tucked into my pants because i was very cold. In retrospect i probably should have been at home that day due to having a fever.

One time in high school I came down with a fever in the middle of the day. And for some reason instead of asking to go home I thought the best course of action was to go to the chemistry lab and curl up on the floor under a fire blanket and just sleep for a few hours, skipping all of my afternoon classes.

It's probably not a ringing endorsement of my high school that a student was just able to spend all afternoon in the chemistry lab unattended without anyone noticing or asking any questions.

I mean, the door was locked, but the chem teacher routinely asked me or one of my friends to open it with a pocket knife because he'd forgotten the key.

it's been a few hours and I haven't started exploding from both ends so I think I might just be hungry, woo

new report: my stomach has just stayed a little cramped all day without varying, but I still haven't had any other symptoms so maybe I lucked out and caught a very minor infection???

    I faked sick pretty often.

One time I said I was sick just so I could stay home and play Animal Crossing.

In high school I became more honest about things and if I didn't want to go to math class or something I'd just pop my head in, get the assignment off the whiteboard and then leave.

I got a call from the vice principal after I had done this a few times and he was like, "You just walked into your class and then left? Why?"

    "I didn't feel like going."

"... Well. You can't do that."

    But I kept doing it.

We had a new electronic bell installed and our teacher was old and didnt trust technology. But she did trust the clock on the wall...

So we'd change that and get an extra 5 min lunch break as she'd believe that the lunch bell was late.

at my very large high school, all the clocks were wired into some sort of master clock system, presumably so someone wouldn't have to go around to all 300 clocks or whatever it was on the campus and change them all for daylight savings or whatever. Except the master clock was constantly breaking down so the clocks stopped working...

I went to the nurse's office during a certain class in high school because the teacher wanted to be part of the "cool group" rather than stop other kids from bullying me and my friend.

She also swore a lot(again trying to be cool) and sent a student to the principal's office for swearing back.

I would do anything to not feel the way I do right this moment with my sinuses completely clogged and my body aching miserably.

Yes I’d go back to school right now.
