I started counting the number of times I'd done BRD Arena / Anger runs when I felt that I had done about 20 of them. And I lost track of how many I had run around 75. Yesterday, I had been having kind of a shitty day in real life, and when I logged into WoW, my buddy messaged me to tell me that he scored the Savage Gladiator Chain earlier in the day. And it was like, I was happy for him, but also super bummed out because I've worked so hard to get it. And then I felt shitty for feeling shitty when I should just be happy for him. I ended up grabbing a few guildies together to do some Arena/Anger runs of my own. And on our second trip through, Gorosh the Dervish spawned and I got my Savage Gladiator Chain, too.

Both of us got it to drop on the same day. I don't know how many times he's run it, but I'm comfortable saying it took me 80 attempts.

But I finally got it. That long sad chapter of my life has finally finished, lol.

Druid's, at least on resto side, seem incredibly rare in general. I'm in the same guild as crimson and we've got one resto druid who is basically having gear defaulted to him because you can't find another one on our server.

In the train wreck of a guild most of our healers were druids 4 in fact we had a dwarf priest who was a vocal proponent of spell downranks [greater heal rank 4 was better sighting it was faster and less mana I clearly remember this because it was one of their go to arguments

    I mean.

    Healers SHOULD be downranking.

Way back in the original wow (I refuse to acknowledge that it's 15 years ago) our progression guild's WC frost mage would use rank 1 frost bolt to get the WC debuff up quicker before switching to max rank.

Starting to feel like I'm done with Grobbulus :(

I don't have a Horde obviously so I can't really compare, but it's just impossible to get anything done. Burning Steppes is camped, Searing Gorge is camped. I'm slowly running out of money because I can't try to mine to make cash, and there's quests I need to do like the Tirion quest chain for the necklace but can't due to how many Horde seem to be in the open world. Doesn't seem to matter what time of day either, really early or really late.

I'm sure you're having plenty of fun, which is great. But this isn't sustainable.

Everyone's going through it, man. Nobody can get anything done. The other night, there were three full Alliance raid groups camping Blackrock Spire; literally 130+ people just absolutely fucking swarming, and completely shutting down any possibility of Horde entering the mountain. Alliance and Horde have almost an exact 50/50 split on Grobb, which is awesome, but in my experience, the Alliance just cares way, way more about world PvP than the Horde does. I'm trying to get honorable kills farmed up, and I'm constantly running into scenarios where A-side can field literally three times the numbers I can in Hillsbrad or Blackrock.

I'm sure it feels exactly the same on the Alliance side, with Horde just swarming every zone. All I can tell you is that it feels like shit for us, too. Everyone's frustrated. I don't personally care, except that it interferes with raid schedules because instead of just mounting up at Kargath and heading into the Spire, it's entirely possible that we're going to waste 20+ minutes clashing and wiping against three full raid groups of Alliance who just wanna stop us from going in.

BGs will be out soon, and I think that'll largely alleviate a lot of the pressure everyone's under.

I didn't see any kind of control of the mountain last night from my end, the only reason I made it into MC was because the Horde group at the entrance inside were distracted.
I'm just sick of it. Blizzard made a mistake in not releasing BGs alongside honor, as many high-level guilds warned. "You'll be farmed, by people like us." I can't even properly twist my guilds arm into waiting and going into the mountain in full force for raids, they just keep trickling in.

Ideally, that would be the plan. I raided up to Naxx40 in Vanilla, and this time around I'm helping a community of roleplayers experience content that they might not otherwise be able to access. Our progress is slower than I would like it to be, but if I can get some folks kills on Rags/Nef etc when they thought they wouldn't ever do those things, that's a win as far as I'm concerned.

But yeah man, I want us to Cleave that whole fight down but we aren't quite there yet.

I could use some help. I'm working with some other members of the raid to help newer players, and we're trying to compile some "tips and tricks" that we commonly use. For example, whenever I'm the target of Lucifron's Impending Doom, or Baron Geddon's Living Bomb, I always swap to Defensive Stance in the last few moments before the abilities expire and the damage is inflicted. This is because you take 10% increased damage in Berserker Stance, and 10% reduced damage in Defensive Stance. So by swapping from one to the other, you reduce the damage you would have taken by simply staying in Berserker Stance by 20%. Even though it's a really easy way to substantially mitigate these burst mechanics, I rarely see other Warriors doing this. I'm looking for more tips and tricks like this that I can pass on to some of our players, but because I'm not intimately familiar with every class, I'm limited in the amount of advice that I can offer folks.

What kinds of things do you guys do, or do you see other players do, that you think separates typical members of a class from good or great members of those classes?

The best WoW advice i ever got, a long time ago was "use your cooldowns! What are you saving them for, your birthday?"

The big one is knowing when to use heroic strike. A lot of warriors would use it either too much or not at all.

Because this came up recently in our guild healing chat, drink potions early and often. It's easy to wait until your out of mana to chug a potion but if you do it as soon as your down 15%-20% of your Mana pool your probably going to have time to drink a second later in the fight if you still need it.

  • InfidelInfidel Heretic Registered User regular
Yeah, same thing as mentioned above for DPS. Use your cooldowns, that includes potion timers. If you can get a second use in then that's almost always better than a single "optimized" use of something.

I like this. I realize I need to either simplify my key bindings or build some macros that initiate certain conditions when I use certain abilities. I am leveling as a orc warrior and I know I'm not using all of my shorter cooldown abilities. I want to have them ready for raids.

When learning a fight, feel free to ignore dpsing entirely and focus 100% on nailing all of the mechanics. Once you are confident with the mechanics, you can work in optimizing your personal dps. This is where you work on increasing uptime while still doing the mechanics correctly.

Two of the things that will have the largest impact on dps is how much uptime you can maintain and Always Be Casting.

Cooldown usage should be planned to maximize the number of times you use them. There are pretty much 0 abilities that you want to save "in case of an emergency".

Figuring out keybindings can make a big difference in how easy it is for a player to react to movement or activate an important button. If you are using WASD or ESDF for movement, take advantage of the surrounding keys when modifying bindings for activatable abilities. Try to figure out a configuration that requires as few clicks as possible. This of course depends on if you have a MMO mouse with it's plethora of programmable side buttons. For example, I use WASD and have bindings for Q, E, F, and X with Shift, CTRL, and ALT modifiers for those keys. This increases my reaction time and ability to activate abilities while moving my character substantially.

Holy crap I had a lucky raid weekend. Our 2nd guild MC run on Fairbanks and the Nightslayer gloves drop, I'm the only one who wants to roll on them, so I get 'em. Then more rogue loot drops all raid until the NS belt drops, and I get to roll again because all rogues have gotten loot, and get that too. So I'm hemming and hawing to myself about the math of losing my Shadowcraft 6p energy regen proc and my devilsaur 2% hit set bonus by putting on my purples, and then we run Ony tonight, and TWO Bloodfang hoods drop, with 3 rogues in the raid, and I get one of them. That settles that I guess.

Almost thirty this weekend. Got over that low 20s hump and hitting the part where I can basically travel out into the world and go to kalimdor to clean greens in Ashenvale then pickup Thousand Needles and then come back to STV or grind out one or two quests here or there and pad with dungeons until STV.

Tried a bunch of times for a Stocks run since I had tasty quests but never could get it going. I think I'll probably just move away from leveling dungeons and blast upward on quests until I reliably hit SM runs and then BRD/Scholo. The few groups I've been seeing in the 1-30 range have been less than stellar, but that probably isn't that surprising. PUG's still a PUG.

You only need one run to kill all your quests, there's like 1 or 2 blue drops total in the whole thing, and it's boring and short. Very few people will stand in SW looking to go again after they get their run in.

Deadmines and SM, on the other hand, beg for additional runs, so the player pool for those dungeons is deeper.

Shit is denser than BRD and stuffed to the brim of elites every 5-10 feet. You're literally a sneeze from a vendor/repair person. You can smash it out in about 20-30 minutes. You can churn through it over and over and over again and get from like 26-32 in about 4 hours.

Hit 60 last night and helped a friend run through Dire Maul for his Dread steed. I got the rogue book thing off of a boss which was a nice little bonus. The core hound also dropped a +15 agility +7 defence necklace that no one else in the group wanted, so I snagged, which was a huge upgrade over some +4 spirit +4 stam thing I'd been wearing since level 30. The dread steed fight was quite fun, I don't have any experience with WoW end game content, despite playing back in the day, so I'm hoping the dungeons have more fights in that vein.

Now to get comfortable with BRD pick pocket runs to slowly earn enough gold to get my own epic.
