I’m excited for Doom 64. It’s Doom 3 to the original games. And I never got to play it.

Yep. That's a cool announcement. I don't think many realize it wasn't just Doom for 64 and instead a completely different game.

Doom 64 was a great shooter. I look forward to playing it on a controller at least marginally better than the old bear claw.

I bet Star Fox 2 will be kept as a SNES Classic selling point as long as they're selling it.
I was under the impression that the Classics were currently both discontinued (with the NESc being doubly discontinued). Are they still making them?

Good games, but it's a bleaker situation than on the NES. They're really frontloading what they can offer us here.
There will probably be fewer games overall on the SNES app compared to the NES app, much like how it was with their respective Classic consoles. But they're really just better games overall. Quality over quantity.

Yeah, both of those were discontinued around Christmas time last year.

Yeah it looks like you may be right on that, I had thought I'd seen some in stores not long ago but it could just be unsold stock. And with the way they're pushing the Switch for that same kind of nostalgia, even selling the SNES controllers, it might be an avenue they're not going to pursue again soon. Still, an unreleased game is a bit more of a unique situation.

Similarly they might save Earthbound Beginnings (NES) for a rainy day, after its Wii U release in 2015.

Yeah but they never put it on Wii or Wii U, much to my annoyance. Wii got the arcade game but that’s NOT the right Rygar. Jerks.

To be fair, NES Classic was discontinued and then brought back later when SNES Classic came out. So I wouldn't rule them out bringing them back.

NESc was brought back because people were still desperately scrambling for them as they were being discontinued. The SNESc was stocked a lot better, so by the time it was discontinued, pretty much everyone who wanted one got one.

Between Xenoblade, #FE, Pokemon, and DQ11, I've got a full course meal of big beefy JRPGs. And that isn't even considering smaller stuff I want to try out like Little Town and older stuff like FF XII!! I feel like I might need to start scheduling some of this stuff. It's like I am in middle school again.

I really want the SNES controller, especially now that 8bit-do isn't allowed to make the proper colored version anymore. I wonder how useful it will be for non-SNES games? Wasn't the NES Classic Controller only usable in NES Online or something like that?

With today's direct my WiiU is dangerously close to retirement. There are a few SNES games I have on VC that I will finish there just because I have the save files already, Paper Mario, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101...and that's it!!! Feels weird to finally be putting that console to bed soon. I know some people don't like it but I really loved my WiiU, warts and all.

I remember waiting so hard for Breath of Fire 1 as a kid. I just loved the visuals and it was a massive upgrade to what we had before it for RPGs in that regard. The game itself was still great but felt small and lacking. As a kid, I remember Nintendo Power listing the Mb size of games and it was on the smaller side. It felt like it.

BoF2 was a freaking masterpiece though. It was like 3 times bigger and it showed. So much more game, more text, more development of characters. The build your town thing was awesome especially with what it becomes near the end of the game. It also upped the visuals even more.

Still though BoF 1 holds a special place in my heart. I think it was one of the first games I ever got hyped for (the only one before it I remember clearly was Secret of Mana but that is because Final Fantasy Adventure was the reason I discovered JRPGs and that changed my life, so a sequel was just mindblowing at the time). It wasn't and still isn't a bad game.

I actually prefer the first two over the latter two for some reason. I mean gameplay wise BoF3 and 4 just leave the early ones in the dust. But something about the story and its ending in BoF3 rubbed me the wrong way, and the story in 4 felt like such a huge leap away from the other 3.

It was only guaranteed to work in NES online. You could use it in other games, you were just missing a lot of important buttons.

SNES at least has enough buttons to pass as a single joy-con. Wonder if they are mapping the d-pad to read like the analog stick on a joy-con...

    RE: SNES and NES games.

I would put predict that we won’t get any third party stuff that’s already on the system as part of a collection.

So no Secret of Mana, no Castlevanias, no Mega Mans, no Street Fighters, probably none of the beat’em ups.

Add to that no licensed games, nothing that requires weird peripherals, and the list of potential releases shrinks pretty fast.

There are somewhere around 600 NES games and we’ve gotten about 50 so far, plus the inevitable Startropics 2 and Mach Rider, but there are something like 1800 SNES games and I can’t imagine getting more than 100 of those over the lifecycle of the Switch.

Is Barry the absolutely American man going to be playable?

In the original, the Shadow Dragon and Awakening were the only Fire Emblem games that got referenced.

I wonder if this Encore edition is going to include some other FEs.

Yes, it is in fact the far superior game to any Ghosts n' Goblins games that it sprang from; that was hands down one of the best games for the SNES, and probably still one of the best platformers just generally. And yes it is still a travesty that Capcom decided to just drop the series after a great Game Boy game and a greater SNES game.

    Because Capcom has always Capcom'ed.

EDIT: wait, I totally forgot there was an NES game. I don't think I ever played that one. Definitely did the other two though, lots.

Deus Ex Machina is 100x better with the improvements. I actually feel like a flying machine of death now. I felt fully in control of my character, whereas in the prototype missions I was constantly running into walls and out of bounds. The motion controls are kinda useless now that we can auto lock on things though.

Edit: there's a weapon added that simply locks on and fires on it's own as you fly around that helps a lot too.

Yeah, the Prototype Demo was rough. Almost as if it was a prototype. But, rough or not, I was already into Daemon X Machina, and this new demo is sucking me in even more.

I also noticed that one of the hairstyles you can pick during character creation is Caspar's quasi-mohawk thing. Is that some new kinda hairstyle that's getting trendy in Japan or something?

Demon’s Crest is one of the best games for the SNES, it made the top 100 games list by Nintendo Power.

    Buts that’s not the point,

It is infamous for having lost a lot of money because somehow more copies of the game were returned than sold.

Demon's Crest is a game I'm amazed even exists, since this was the height of Nintendo's "Somebody please think of the children!" censorship days. Just how on earth did that boxart , opening title screen, and overall game tone get past... anyone?

The title screen is beautiful though. Bonechilling, but beautiful too.

Just preference. Stock lightsaber combat was super flashy but not particularly tactical. ProMod made the combat a lot like Kendo, where every swing was dangerous as long as you read your opponents position and stance well.

I was a kendo student at the time so ProMod really spoke to me.

Yeah, when you think about what else was classic on SNES...Mortal Kombat? Probably not.

When you look at a list of all the games on SNES it's just like...not that one...won't get that one...it's rough.

Licensed isn't just movies and TV shows. Game show games like Family Feud and board games like Monopoly also got really good on SNES. Every sports game left the realm of generic and started being official NCAA NBA NHL Ken Griffey Jr. stuff.

While I don't blame Square for being hardheaded about their library and knowing exactly how much it is worth, the fact is they are just absolute bastards these days, and they control a huge chunk of the best games on the system.

So like...Super Alfred Chicken? Super Bomberman if Konami is feeling generous? Bullfrog/EA's Theme Park? EA's Desert Strike?

We're not even getting 50 SNES games.

Oh God I'm getting confused. Was Outcast the first one or second one? It says Jedi Knight 2 so I assumed it was the sequel to the first one.

If that's the case then it makes sense why Academy is coming later. The first one had an amazing single player game and the multiplayer was good... But the second one's multiplayer was life changing.
