I am sad I was stuck disconnected from the world in a long meeting and I missed discussing Colonialism in video games!
You take exploration ideas, discover America and develop all your coastal trade centers to at least 12, you've a decent chance of sniping Colonialism from the Iberians! Don't even need to colonise!
i'm not denying toxic masculinity but i think a lot of people just enjoy room to stretch and be lavish their space, throw a coat on the next chair, sprawl arms over armrests etc
most theater seating is big enough that unless you're super super morbidly obese you're not going to struggle with arms touching neighbors or w-e, but a little extra room seems like a fairly common desire even without ascribed agenda
I mean, is it an almost empty theater? Sure, I'll spread the fuck out. But otherwise I'd rather sit next to my friends so I can make dumb jokes with being a huge boor.
I just respect the space of other people. Like I personally feel very claustrophobic in packed theaters. Almost to the detriment of the experience. It's only recently that theaters have moved away from airplane seating to more open accomodations.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
IIRC their conclusion wasn't so much "rent control is bad" as "rent control has a lot of complex effects that can be bad and is not a definitive solution"
Movie Theaters shouldnt follow airplane models for their seating. My backwoods theater just put in new seats and they are tiny. I looked at them and thought:
1) This is why I dont go out to movies.
2) I think I could count the times ive seen this theater full on my hands.
I was listening to a podcast discussing masculinity and one host mentioned that her male friends will leave a seat between each other at the movies (if there's room)
Just bizarre, wild homophobia and fear of any compromise of masculinity
How am I supposed to talk shit about the movie if my friends aren't close enough to hear? Oh right, you're a man, so you shout it loudly across three seats ruining the movie for everyone.
don't talk during movies jesus christ
Speaking of Jesus, My friend and I nearly got thrown out of The Passion for laughing too hard.
Satan pets a demon midget.
...no we did not pay for that movie. My friend worked at the theatre, we got in for free.
and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say

Sure, but thats not an issue with being worried that sitting next to a man means you have to kiss him.

In suburban theaters the big thing is assigned seating and recliners with food service. Tickets are more expensive but you feel less crammed in and needing to show up to the movie an hour in an advance. Its nice.

I see that it's one of those issues where the intuitive solution is very wrong. Cool stuff thank you for telling me about it.

I'm just saying that not everyone who sits a seat away from a friend is some kind of "oh no that's gay" it could be "oh no I'm socially awkward and worried I smell"
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I am sympathetic to the idea that there is no way to really solve housing crises and shortages and skyrocketing rents with a housing market, only shift the burden, because having housing as a market and a commodity is inherently what generates the crisis, but this is just the usual socialist position afaik
@Shazkar Shadowstorm you'd be so jealous of this room where i'm sleeping in the shark abode. it's in the basement and it's utterly cold and utterly stygian. your eyes can't adjust to it. it's just pitch black. it's the best sleep i've ever had in my life.
this sounds nice
cold and dark and pure pitch black
it's too bad that i fucking got tinnitus from taking that stupid antidepressant and that silence is forever lost to me and now i'm more depressed and what a mistake that was god i'm so mad about it still

The big money question is how do you administer housing and property if people can't own it, without that administration turning into de facto ownership
Not so hard if you have a culture that embraces the commons and has for thousands of years, but if you don't...

You can see a person to deprogram some tinnitus
wat kind of person
but it's just really fucking frustrating still
i'm gonna go see another doc because my ears have been hurting again
i had a weird ear pain after traveling with a sinus infection and not having decongestant when i rode a train down a mountain and stuff
but the ENT when i got back saw nothing wrong with my ear
i had weird pressure things in my right ear for a bit and sometimes it hurt but it was mostly ok
then i tried this antidepressant for the first time and a rare side effect is tinnitus / ear damage apparently and there are lots of anecdotal claims online which i didn't know about, and was not warned by doctor by because it's not officially a common side effect
and then i was on it for a bit before i noticed it was doing damage because everywhere i go is noisy and i have white noise in my bedroom so i only noticed it when it was super quiet and by then it was too late and forever damage i guess idk
at least the audiologist i went to didn't detect any hearing loss, but the ringing is not pleasant
now the last few weeks my ears have really been bothering me with aches and pressure things so i will go to another doctor i guess
it is the number one most frustrating thing about this last year of my life, and truly ironic that it was caused by trying to be less depressed lmao medicine
today i wore my concert earplugs in the lunch room because it was loud and hurty
and i've been good about earplugs for the last 5 years when at music events too grumble grumble

i've stayed in a few hotels with very good blackout curtains and like no LEDs of any kind and sleeping in pure pitch blackness is truly a treat though, it very much is

Rent control cannot in and of itself be a solution; you need buttressing social policies

In a show like Dark Crystal are the puppets mouths animated or actually moving?
Fellas is it gay to acknowledge you have an asshole?
There was a thread on reddit that a girl was complaining her boyfriend didn't wipe his ass because it was gay or something and she was sick of it especially giving blowjobs and wanted to know how common this was.
Then like, a surprisingly large number of women started chiming in and agreeing.
I could not make sense of this at all, this is like some bizarre portal into an alternate universe I refuse to acknowledge this is a thing.

It's the wild west in there because people don't talk about it
- showering using your hands vs loofah vs brush vs wash cloth
- what you actually scrub in the shower, e.g. people who don't wash their legs
- people who sit in the shower (!?)
- people who read on their phones while in the shower (???!!?)
- standing vs sitting to wipe
- wiping forward or backward
- people who brush once a day or less, people who brush after every meal, people who brush for thirty seconds vs people who brush for the dentist recommended amount of time with a timer
- washing hands or not after peeing
- taking shirt off while pooping
It's just an endless tide of idiosyncracies people don't even know they have

Yes, the very next thing I read was "and they're tiny and the wait is 6 to 10 years"

Average waiting times of 5½ years suggests they still don't have close to enough housing.

So do they record voices first like in animation?
Or do they have to make the voice actors match the puppets since it is probably more difficult to keep re-doing puppet scenes?
