If by faction you mean legacy, then yes. Arrows are very military oriented, so you have to earn your accolades.

Factions are basically like subclasses, they're pseudo-political (and mostly functional) groups within each order. Like the Arrow has the Black Tower, the Council of Dragons, and the Crucible. Each has a different focus within the larger Order.

Oh, right. It's been a while since I read the AA book. Yes, that's fine, though backstory on your character's interest in that faction would help.

    Ooooo Legacies!

I'm thinking House of Ariadne works well for Hope, so I added them into my sheet.

Yeah I'm thinking about legacies but not too deeply just yet.

Do you have to have the Order and Path for a legacy? Or just either or?

Do we have a character scrawl for everyone?

Ok its been awhile since I've done this. I know my order has Athletics, Intimidation, Medicine as rote specializations, but where in this book is the list of rote spells?

  • BrodyBrody The Watch The First ShoreRegistered User regular
I believe with the new system, every rote spell is available to all Orders, they just didn't write a generic one for all of the orders?

I thought we were using 1st edition which is the old system?

  • cj iwakuracj iwakura The Rhythm Regent Bears The Name FreedomRegistered User regular
I don't think we ever rendered a final say between the two, so I'm good either way, but the new one would require more research on my part.

Oh, I meant new as in Awakening of Ascension.

My understanding based on the character's provided in the book is that spell rotes in the main rule book are available to all characters, using the default rote pool shown, or one specific to their order if its given.

On page 73, the example character is of the Mysterium order, but takes Self Healing (183) and Gossamer Touch (247), a rote listed as being of the AA and Free Council respectively.

Yep, apart from any interconnections your characters may want to establish or further details on their connections to their Order.

I expect Charlemagne doesn't have much issue with any of the other party members, although he definitely has a bit of a superiority complex. As a budding Thredonist, he is not particularly secretive within the Mage community, as he considers most of his true insights to be beyond what most other people, Awakened or not, to be capable of processing. And if someone really does get it, he's more likely to engage them in an animated conversation than some ridiculous pissing match, or arguments driven by jealousy.

I appreciate Hopes attempts to open up Awakened society, but also, probably aggravate her with a very "I'm superior" vibe that comes off similar to the way the rest of the Awakened community would.

Birdsong can save all the trees he wants, as if I get my way and succeed in bringing the supernal and sleeping worlds together through a feat of pure mathematics, we will finally be able to use magic to solve all of the worlds woes without fear of paradox.

I don't think Llane has a character bio posted yet, so I'll fill that in when it gets posted.

Hope isn't going to have a problem with Charlemagne... she just won't accept the superiority of his intellect. Also, will probably call him "Charlie" if he's being too high and mighty, so be prepared for that :P

I should have my sheet finished tonight and will write up an intro of what folks would know about Llane

I should have had...but it's not done. This week is kind of weird, but I will work through it and get it sorted, should be square by the end of the week. Holidays and all that.

So are we just going to go with a general “the characters have met each other before and are acquaintances but not friends?”

E- I’m fine with that. If we’re expecting a bumpy road between two characters we can shore that up with an unlikely friendship sort of thing too. Hope is really really good at arranging unlikely friendships. :P

I mean, I assumed we'd all have at least met through local consilium meetings. I don't know that we're at an exp level that would make participation in a Cabal super likely atm, but I'm not sure whats actually required for a cabal.

If you want to say they've met already that's fine, but if they're meeting for the first time, that's fine too. Unless you want to have them be brand new to the city, they should be established and know about the Consilium, which is at the Golden Nugget Casino.

There's no real requirement per se, just a group of like-minded Mages.

I figure my character is pretty active in the activist community and spends a lot of time talking the ears off of anyone who will listen, so I might not know everyone personally, but I might be known by everyone (Oh yeah that guy...)

It really depends on what you're using it for, but it'll typically have its own stats. I'm gathering it's more of an investigative familiar than an attack bird.

Yeah I am rip raring to go, though I still can't find any info on my familiar's stats. I will say the book is not organized well

  • ToxTox I kill threads he/himRegistered User regular
Okay so there seems to be some inconsistent understanding of what the rules are, so I'm going to ask openly:
1 - the opening post says, for Arcanum, we get 2 dots in one, 2 in another, and 1 in a third; and that two of the three arcanum here must be from our Path; then a sixth dot that can be placed anywhere. This is also the character creation rule in the book. However, this does not appear to have been followed on everyone's sheet. Are we house-ruling that you don't have to do starting Arcanum this way?
2 - If we choose to start as a member of an order, do we get a free dot of Status: Order or not? Some have it, some don't.
3 - are merits from non-standard player sources allowed? Like if there's a merit from the Seers of the Throne book that's Seers only, can we take those merits? I'm asking because some of those groups get access to deliberately powerful merits because they're antagonists or have other special rules that apply to them. For instance, Banishers don't get rotes, so they have merits that make casting without a rote easier/better for them.

I'm not trying to be difficult but in my experience C/WoD games in general, and Mage games in specific, work best when there's clear communication and understanding of what the rules are and how they will be applied, and I want to make sure we're all on the same page.

I think CJ has to stat your bird out for you. I believe thats why he was asking what your intent with the Familiar was, so that he doesn't stat it in a way that makes it useless for your intents.

Sorry, for the double post, figured it would be easier to split with Vanilla's new quote trees.

1- 2 dots in 2 arcana, 1 dot in a third, and 1 dot anywhere. I have 2 in Force and Prime, 1 in Space, and 1 dot in Forces.

    2- I wasn't sure about that.

3- Pretty sure antagonistic character traits require you to have chosen a background as one of those character types which you clear with the Storyteller, or to be playing a Seer/Banisher/etc campaign.

Ohhhh I had 3,1,1,1. I may have misunderstood the rules, or gone back and switched things in an incorrect way.

I guess I should fix that! I guess it'll have to be 3 fate, 2 time and 1.... Mind? Hrm. Then I have to fix rotes too :(

    Thanks for noticing!

You also have 5 points sunk into a Banisher-only merit that is pretty powerful. Essentially making spontaneous casting almost strictly better than rote casting.
e: I should point out, all of this is fine, if cj is cool with it. I just want to know if cj is cool with it, because that may impact my choices! I don't care necessarily what the rules are, I just want to make sure I know what the rules are, so I know my options
